Someone with more knowledge than me please tell me why Ohio will spilt Dem/repub for senate/president?  Is the repub senate candidate that bad?  Seems off.

Because Sherrod Brown is the kind of Democrat that held the house for decades and has credibility with the middle class in a way that the rest of the Democratic Party doesn’t.

The dirty truth is a ton of Mexicans living in the US are very racist against blacks. Also, they're very prejudiced against other latinos coming into the US (whether legally or illegally) because they feel it will invalidate their standing here, or ruin their ability to improve their standing.
My wife's parents moved here from Mexico in the 1970s. Her dad and several of his brothers were illegally here for a couple of decades before becoming citizens. Her extended family in DFW, about 100+ people strong, are a mix of a few college educated sane Harris supporters and a ton of shit show low educated, ignorant, goobers.
Mostly they vote out of prejudice and fear while being completely ignorant of the dangers maga fascist authoritarianism presents to them regardless of their citizenship status.

This is spot on. Some of the most anti black racist folks I’ve ever been around are Texas Hispanics. It was eye opening and shocking. The democrats aren’t living in reality when they think otherwise. A not small percentage of that demographic will NEVER vote for a black presidential candidate. Makes zero sense, but it is what it is.

Personally, I think if you are a white dude opining on Mexicans you should just fuck your own face.

You can feel however you want, but I've been married into the family and have lived in that culture far more than my own family's white culture for over 20 years. My daughters are half Mexican.  I've discussed all of this with my wife and members of her family many times over.

I'm not apologizing for saying what I know to be the god damned truth.

Well, some Republicans would never ever ever vote for a black woman, but here we sit.

I'm not a Texas Hispanic, but the point is, giving up on people isn't the way.  Even if we can't get to one generation, the next one may well be one election or two from being on the clock, and things change.

Trump whale exposes the limits of today’s prediction markets: Even though volumes have surged on Polymarket this year, it is still small enough for one wealthy, opinionated individual to push prices around with a multimillion-dollar bet.
Théo emailed the Journal after the publication of an Oct. 18 article about his wagers. To prove that he was behind the Polymarket wagers, the Journal asked him to place a bet on whether Taylor Swift would announce that she is pregnant in 2024—one of the many small, nonpolitical wagers available on the platform. Minutes later, Polymarket’s website showed that one of the four accounts, Theo4, had placed a small bet on Swift’s pregnancy.

No, he's not.  You are doing what a lot of people do: you see a problem and you attribute the cause as something you see as deficient.  But, if there was really a cause and effect between these problems and that deficiency, if Trump was winning this voting block due to economic policy, nobody would be talking about "white working class"

Um, I’m not talking about the “white working class,” yall are.

Again, I’m saying: Democrats have not represented the interests of the middle and lower middle class effectively for 30 years. Over and over, when the interests of the lower middle-middle class  and the top decile came into conflict,  the Democratic leadership chose the latter. When they had the opportunity to protect or expand the tools available to the lower middle and middle to protect their own interests or build equity, they opted not to take them. With the rare exception of people like Sherrod Brown,  the Democratic Party mostly represents the cultural and social agenda of well educated knowledge workers in urban centers mixed with Clinton-era corporatism. To the extent that labor Democrats exist at all anymore, they are an anachronism.

It seems silly to pretend otherwise.

I tend to agree that Clinton-era Dems (especially the Boomers who hitched their wagon to him), but the New, New Democrats of the past decade are absolutely done with that shit.

My first presidential vote was for Clinton in 1992, but I abandoned the guy in 1996 as a protest vote after his criminal justice and welfare "reforms" to accommodate GOPs in Gingrich's Congress and voted Green instead, knowing full well that my Texas vote wouldn't make a difference. Hell, I even foolishly did the same and voted Nader instead of Gore for the same protest reasons in 2000, again, because Texas.

Obama talked a good game, and I honestly believe he could've enacted more progressive policies if not for the Clinton era Dems and the complete obstruction by McConnell and company. The guy's heart was in the right place, but I do feel like he did what he could in that environment with Boomer Dems like fucking Lieberman as obstacles.

But, right now, it's a new party with almost all of the energy and ideas coming from the more progressive wing. And, because of that, I feel more at home and feel more positive about the party than I have at most any point in the past 30-odd years of being a voting citizen.

Oh okay.

I was married to a full Irish woman for over twenty years so I am fully prepared to explain the Irish-American experience to my kids. Lulz no, I don't understand it but I just teach my kids to be proud and embrace their heritage that I don't really understand.

The AJC has reported that Georgia had 4,000,009 votes counted at close this evening, with more to be tabulated overnight.  For reference, in 2020 the vote totals were 4,999,960.

He’s right. One of my high school teachers was much beloved but is all-in on Trump, and we stay in touch.
I told him this the other day: “If Trump wins, 3 generations of students who loved you will remember you for that. You grandkids will remember you for that. You won’t be the guy that took them camping. You won’t be the teacher they looked up to or the grandfather who taught them to fish. You’ll just be a Trumper, until enough years pass that you pass from living memory and nobody knows who you were or talks about you anymore.”

You are behaving so disingenuously. Sherrod Brown is your shining example? But his voting history doesn't  align with the votes you claim lower and middle class families care so deeply about. On the 3 votes you said were the issues that those people felt really disappointed in Democrats - Glass-Stegall repeal, the bank bailout and NAFTA passage, he voted the way you'd consider "right" only 1 out of 3 times; he voted against NAFTA. I think the people you're saying feel "left behind" genuinely feel "left behind" but that's more than partially due to living in the rust belt and being ignorant about politics and policies, along with their gullibility for racism. The policies you try to gussy them up with are your own preferences. I would've thought you'd at least cite someone who voted the way you want 2 out of 3 times. But you just keep moving the goal posts, acting in an arrogant and insulting manner, and using a lot of words to say very little.
