This supports the hypothesis that Trump brings up Hannibal Lecter whenever the topic of immigration comes up because he doesn’t know the difference between an insane asylum and the concept of seeking asylum in a foreign country. When his advisors tell him immigrants come here to seek asylum, he genuinely thinks they are mental patients. Because he’s fucking stupid.

How long have we been watching this unfold and asking "How is this thing even close?"

The pollsters adjusting and adding weight to the data in their models in order to "find" the hidden Trump voters that were missed in 2020 and 2016 are completely missing something that the electorate itself is observing in real time that is actually nullifying the hidden Trump vote.

1. Dobbs, obviously and most importantly

2. Trump in 2024 is the oldest, most unfit and unstable candidate of any if our lifetimes

3. Or 2b. The most hideous, tone-deaf, messy, insulting, hateful and clumsy campaign of my lifetime.

This is not spiking the ball, it will still likely be very close in PA, NC, GA, AZ. But it's not hard to understand how all the stat geniuses could shit down their own legs in unison.

Remember, stat geniuses are who almost brought our financial system to its knees in 2008

I have not been inside a Chili’s in more than 20 years.  But, got damn, I believe I’ll be posting a victory photo from one on Wednesday!

i was at a turn near the twenty mile marker for the city of oaks marathon (Raleigh) with my kids and a crowd of other cheerers-on waiting for my wife to run by. Everyone is screaming words of encouragement at everyone who comes by, hooting and hollering and holding out "power up" signs. Guy comes running in a red maga hat, and it was literally just the sound of birds chirping hahahaha

Wed is too late. We need that Chili's energy on Tue night. Similar to our chicken fried steak efforts to land Quinn Ewers from the portal.

Not sure how it started. There was an extended discussion on the place and the desirability of some menu items and deals.

I dunno man. I think it was the night shift.

The Harris campaign has finally decided to turn its attention to getting my 40 year old suburban, registered independent, white guy vote. My targeted messaging before a week ago was probably 90-10 Trump. For the last week or so it’s like 70-30 Harris. And I just had a pair of canvassers come to my door to somewhat apprehensively ask if I planned on voting. Their demeanor changed significantly when I told them I how enthusiastic I am about voting straight ticket democrat on Tuesday.

A conversation with my wife:

”We have to go to Chili’s when Kamala wins.”

”…Why?”

”Because that’s what Surly is doing.”

”We have to go to Chili’s because of Surly.”

“Yes.”

”If Surly jumped off a bridge..”

”Yes.”

Also not a surprise. The last week has been a push for the margins, bc they’ve turned out or contacted all of their base or groups favorable to them.

It's the simple things in life that often bring the most joy.

Just outside of Pittsburgh.

Listen, I hate Trump like anyone else with half a brain.

That said, if he promises an ability to opt out of political commercials after I put in my vote, I would reconsider.

I keep forgetting about this. There is seriously a very good chance he goes to prison.

Kind of hard to believe that has not at all been a part of the campaign. For President of the United States.

Yeah, my boss who is an awesome, badass bitch (in the best possible way), wears some wild, hippie-esque clothing in the office and generally celebrates the Keep Austin Weird-vibe broke my heart on Friday. We were both WFH and on the Teams call I noticed in the corner of her desk she had a shiny new Trump 2024 Yeti. Her husband's high up in construction so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised, but they also have a daughter who's a HS senior and for the life of me I just can understand that disconnect.

I work for a construction company. Most of the local leadership is anti-Trump. Little comments here and there so as to not piss other people off. But we know who we are.

OTOH, the subcontractors I’ve talked to in the past few months are VERY pro-Orange shitstain. They think interest rates will magically go down if he’s elected. Never mind the economic realities of the past 4 years that affected monetary and fiscal policy.

You bring up several important, but nuanced points.

I'm talking about the small farmers who I grew up with. I know they are racists. The n-word was not normalized, it was normal.

I know they cashed the checks. But 2 things: the checks weren't that big and it cuts against the way they view of themselves.

Industrial farming got the biggest bailout. We know that industrial farming provides the most product, and it gets a disproportionate amount of subsidy. Small farmers are more numerous, less overall productive, and get disproportionately less subsidy (data and reference below).

Plus, small farmer aren't comfortable on the public dole (even though they've been subsidized for decades--don't bring that up), for the same reason they feel comfortable using the n-word.

The discrepancy is between reality and self perception, which we all also acknowledge.

https://www.ewg.org/interactive-maps/2021-farm-subsidies-ballooned-under-trump/

For example, through the MFP in 2018 and 2019:

  • The top 1 percent of recipients received 16 percent of payments, with an average total payment for both years of $524,298 per farm. The top 10 percent received 58 percent of payments, with an average total payment of $185,340.
  • The bottom 80 percent of recipients received only 23 percent of payments – an average payment for both years of only $9,109 per recipient.

The more alfalfa he did not grow, the more money the government gave him, and he spent every penny he didn't earn on new land to increase the amount of alfalfa he did not produce.

Somewhat related, my wife asked me how I was getting updates so quick last night. I told I'd prefer not to answer that question

Both candidates holding simultaneous rallies in downtown Pittsburgh Monday night sure seems like a high chance for chaos.

Do they still make the chicken sandwich with bacon at Chili's? I used to eat that on the regular in college. That and some skillet queso on Wednesday would be lovely.

That location shut down

Hard pass.

I deal with a lot of subs as well and am genuinely shocked how many think Trump is a genius.  And that he would pay them.
