Pay for downvoting program. Seems like a good way for some oligarchs to financially shadowban any causes they don't like.

According to chief justice Roberts and the supreme court, there is no greater expression of free speech than spending money to make others listen to your speech, Elmo is finally getting back to his free speech roots

They do realize that going forward, the big automakers are not going to be buying nearly as many CAFE credits from Tesla as they have been, and that the big automakers all have major EV offerings ramping up, don’t they?

Haha

Are remaining twitter employees the ultimate betacuck soyboys?

That…or shackled to the job by an H1-B visa. You know, the immigrant owner of Twitter is using American immigration law to keep some slave labor working for him. Cool, cool.

To be fair, profiting off of slave labor is a family tradition.
So fucking deranged.

Wtf is he blathering about? Seriously, he just likes to slap together buzzwords to sound intelligent. I’m actually becoming convinced that he’s a genuine idiot.

He really has nailed the early 2000s Internet forum moderator vibe, and that logo would look sweet as fuck translated into mid-1990s ANSI.

The thing about echo chambers is the victims residents don’t realize they are in one, and that blue check downvote thing is going to help thicken the walls of those echo chambers that people like Musk tend to inhabit.

Discussions on Twitter at its best, like Surly, always have somebody looking to take the piss out of whatever ideas or opinions are getting tossed around.  Go start a movie thread here about your favorite movie, and within a few posts, there will be somebody shitting on some aspect of it.  Or go in the music or recruiting forums and toss in some opinions. Somebody will try and take you down a few notches.

What Musk is doing on Twitter, and this is a problem on Reddit and especially on Facebook, is make it extremely easy to create more echo chambers, all for a low price.

Although a few dozen of us buying blue checks could really fuck with aggy Twitter users if we organized and targeted them, lol.

But I don’t want to give him money, and he and his fanbois are still too fucking stupid stupid to understand that Twitter users are the product and advertisers are the customer.   That’s what is most amazing about this, even more so than his lack of understanding of the First Amendment.

Twitter is a news aggregation. I didn't get it until the Rangers went to an auction in Federal court. You couldn't get any info except on Twitter in real time. It was only later that I discovered the vast array of characters like Myrna today. And the trashy pulp fiction reality trainwreck of Other People that is broadcast to the world.

Elon desperately wants to be cool. He spent 44 billion to buy what he thinks is the playground of cool. And he's trying really hard to get the coolness to stick on him, but no matter how many sickos and sycophants tell him he's great he can't grasp it. It eludes him. Kornacki knows he's a nerd. He accepts this. In his Uber nerd he has a peculiar cool. Elon desperately wants this. Yet, it's out of his reach.

I swear I knew a lot of BBS Sysops just like him back in the early-to-mid 1990s.

Guys like him would spend a shitload calling up long distance warez and porn hubs and do whatever was needed to get access to the Sekrut stuff (usually having to either pay, act as pseudo-couriers or even affiliates, giving up some of their resources to the warez networks), they’d buy multiple computers (because they couldn’t figure out multinode setups under OS/2 and needed multiple computers) and then pay Southwestern Bell or whoever a hefty chunk of change for multiple lines and phone numbers, complete with the rollover feature or whatever that would cycle callers to the next open node if a line was busy.  And they’d drop a shitload of money on USR modems, because that’s what the cool kids used.

They’d advertise this stuff on other boards, Fidonet, etc. and then people would flood their boards, only to find that the sysops were utter assholes and stingy with the ratios and/or charging them for access (cash or check would do) which was really fucking stupid when dealing with warez and a good way to get Rusty and Edie’d.  And they’d also get a well-deserved reputation of ripping shit off (software, porn, ANSI/ASCII art) from other boards as well.  And they were probably running pirated BBS software as well (most likely Renegade or WWIV).

They did all this thinking they were buying friends, when instead people would login in, see the dumb fucking rules or ratios, maybe try to download something (and probably upload some fake/repackaged software to get their ratio up), and then not come back, because the message side of things was dead from Dear Leader being a prick.  Oh, and it was easy as fuck to screw with these guys by pretending to be a girl or whatever.

Yeah, there were a thousand Elon Musks running BBSes across America in the 1990s.

In the early 2000s I came very close to setting up a massive generic Internet forum with some friends from my BBS days as well as some fellow mods on Something Awful, as a place where people could create sub-boards around any topic they desired, similar to use the, just without the spam and shitty porn.  We even had somebody who had been with Dell early on and had money to help us get it up and running.

But we kept circling back to surely nobody would want a big fucking forum/Usenet replacement with a shitload of topics, because everything seemed to be fragmenting into smaller groups.

And a few years later Reddit comes along.

Yeah it’s just too bad your website’s name was already taken.

I didn't realize I was going to tap into the computer nerd motherload. I understand about 3% of what he just said, but I think the gist of it is that cool is not for sale and if the iron is hot you should strike. Mixed messages.

The dumbest fucking people.

Imagine being tripped up by the term "real time"

This guy really needs better (or any) lawyers.

He wasn’t doxxed. It is public information. He thinks if he keeps repeating it, stupid people will believe it. And he’s not wrong.

I’m understanding this correctly that the only thing that elonjet did (and the only “doxxing” involved here is information about he flights of his plane)?

Again having a hard time with the idea that he is this fucking stupid.

Correct. And the journalists whose accounts were suspended were reporting on the fact that the elonjet was banned.

He is this fucking stupid.

Taylor Lorenz (web culture reporter from wapo and nyt) has now been suspended. No tweets “doxxing” anyone at the time of her suspension, came after she reached out to Elon for comment on a story.

Doxxing in Afrikaner means “shit that makes me look stupid”.

Ever think of that smart guy?

It's funny and sad how he's using the uncritical thinking strategy of finding an emotionally charged word and repeating it over and over, using it as a club to ignore anyone else's comments and victimize himself.

Homeboy is not doing well, he'd fit right in on surly

Apparently Taylor was accused of doxxing by an influencer. So Elon banned her.

Ah, interesting- I wonder if there was anything else to that story. Either way - so the rule now is posting personal information about another person anywhere on the internet = jail

My favorite retort is when these inconsistencies in Elons truthfulness are pointed out, they say, it’s his website, he can do what he wants. No one is arguing against that. Elon can ban whoever the fuck he wants for no reason whatsoever, but his stated reasons for doing so are lies, like his stated reasons for buying the platform.

A right wing billionaire didn’t like the speech being allowed on a media platform, so he bought the company to change it. That’s it.

weird so most of the "taylor lorenz" doxxing stuff is about the libs of tiktok account, where she published the name of the person behind an account which was heavily used to dox and target teachers. Ariadna Jacob is maybe a different thing, she seems to be a... tiktok talent agent so honestly fuck her (i mean, not really, but maybe?). There is an interesting question of... legitimate reporting on internet things, and when you no longer have an expectation that your actual identity is off limits to discuss.

Everything I read from those 2 is so low-t it makes me embarrassed for them.

https://www.axios.com/2022/12/17/elon-musk-twitter-poll-journalists-suspended

Quote

Elon Musk banned another journalist over the weekend — after he brought some reporters back to the platform after suspending their accounts, using a Twitter poll to decide their fate.

The latest: The Washington Post's Taylor Lorenz, a technology and online culture columnist, said she learned Saturday afternoon that her Twitter account was "suspended," she wrote on her substack.

Lorenz and Drew Harwell, another Washington Post tech reporter, were researching an article involving Musk. In an attempt to contact him, Lorenz requested an interview via a tweet on Saturday, she wrote.

Later that day, when she went to check whether there was a response, she received a notification that her account was suspended.

Going forward, look for ole' Elon to just ban media from Twitter:

Quote

Musk on Saturday — after reinstating some journalists on the platform — bashed the "corporate media" on his account, writing: "They abandon even the pretense of noble principles in their zeal to keep their monopoly on information seen by the public."

Musk in a separate Twitter response also said: "They think they’re better than everyone else."

Goddamn this is all about libz of TikTok?? For fucks sake lol, time is a flat fucking circle.

Elmo is protecting the worst of the far right bad actors that ARE doxxing people and directing violence towards LGBTQ people and children's hospitals

But it's for free speech and the future of civilization and humanity.

Seriously. The man couldn’t be logically consistent if his life depended on it. He’s just a not-that-smart petulant toddler. And people worship him.

I ask again, Elon fanbois, where are y’all? You were all over this place a few weeks ago….

Give it a few days. They will transition seamlessly from "free speech" to "See! This is what it feels like to have your speech silenced. Serves you right!"
