I got starlink in and set up at our place in the Colorado Mountains and... its a damn good product.  Went from <30mbs and unable to connect to the work vpn to over 200mbs and able to work from home again.

I wish Elon wasn't such a fucking asshole.

I’m a believer that Starlink will eventually be Elon’s most important product. However it’s a scary proposition that he could end up controlling a large percentage of the ISP market.

I don’t disagree.

I don't see how he would ever control a significant chunk of the ISP market. Starlink is a great product, no question. But if I have any option other than starlink, I am not going to use Starlink. It's not cost effective.

Starlink: 180/20 for $90 or $120 (depending on density)

In Vermont: 300/300 for $75

I'm visiting my folks right now, Spectrum FINALLY is available to them 300/300 for $70, I am switching them as we speak.

Starlink has it's place, but I just don't see how they are a significant player in the market.

Reuters: Musk and X are epicenter of US election misinformation, experts say

WASHINGTON, Nov 4 (Reuters) - False or misleading claims by billionaire Elon Musk about the U.S. election have amassed 2 billion views on social media platform X this year, according to a report, opens new tab by non-profit group Center for Countering Digital Hate.
The platform is also playing a central role in enabling the spread of false information about the critical battleground states that will likely determine the outcome of the presidential race, election and misinformation experts said on Monday.

A spokesperson for X said the company's Community Notes feature, which lets users add additional context to posts, is more effective at helping people identify misleading content than traditional warning flags on posts.
Since taking over the company formerly known as Twitter, Musk has curtailed content moderation and laid off thousands of employees. He has thrown his support behind former President Donald Trump, who is locked in an exceptionally close race against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Musk’s massive reach with nearly 203 million followers helps enable “network effects” in which content on X can jump to other social media and messaging platforms such as Reddit and Telegram, said Kathleen Carley, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and expert on disinformation. “X is a conduit from one platform to another,” she said.

At least 87 of Musk's posts this year have promoted claims about the U.S. election that fact-checkers have rated as false or misleading, amassing 2 billion views, according to the Center for Countering Digital Hate's report.

In Pennsylvania, one of the seven key swing states, some X users have seized on instances of local election administrators flagging incomplete voter registration forms that would not be processed, falsely casting the events as examples of election interference, said Philip Hensley-Robin, Pennsylvania executive director at Common Cause, during a press briefing on Monday.
Common Cause is a nonpartisan organization that promotes accountable government and voting rights.

Some X accounts implied “that there was voter fraud, when in fact, we know very clearly that election officials and election administrators in all of our counties were following the rules and … therefore only eligible voters are voting,” Hensley-Robin said.
Cyabra, a firm that uses AI to detect online disinformation, said on Monday that an X account with 117,000 followers played a key role in helping spread a fake video purporting to show Pennsylvania mail-in ballots for Trump being destroyed.

X's spokesperson said the platform took action against many accounts that shared the video.

Elon Musk is actively conspiring against the United States of America.  In case there was any doubt.

He is an illegal alien (yep, he lied on his application, he should be 100% denaturalized), he conspires with foreign states (he is in regular contact with Putin), and is actively working to undermine the foundational event in the Republic - an election - using false information and disinformation to do so.

Tokyo Rose and Axis Sally were less reprehensible than he is.

If we punished everyone in the media who published or repeated false information to influence the election, we would have no media left.

When you make "intent" an element of the offense, you winnow down that group REAL fucking quick.

And way to do the perfect MAGA comparison: look at someone who fucking drives over the speed limit by 5 mph and rolls through stop signs, then a serial murderer and rapist, and say "see!  They're both criminals!"

Fuck that.  Elon Musk is a clear and present danger to the Republic.

When disinformation and Russian propaganda are your best friends....you're an enemy of the fucking Republic.  Period.  The fact that our enemies have aligned behind one of our political parties should bother you much, much more.  Yet, it doesn't.  Which tells the world everything it needs to know about you.

Well, he's doing everything he can to support the guy who spent over a year trying to get himself illegally installed as the POTUS after losing an election. Remember that?

These things are indisputable facts:

Russia wants to destabilize Western countries, especially America.

Russia wants a certain someone to win the election to further that pursuit.

Russia is paying American influencers to distribute their propaganda.

X has been overrun with Russian bots, now more than ever.

Elon Musk has had multiple conversations with Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, Johnny Sack: "Nothing to see here. Just your political bias showing."

Fucking pathetically typical.

If we punished everyone in the media who published or repeated false information to influence the election, we would have no media left.

Yeah, everyone is the same as Musk, who (checks notes) helped deplatform thousands of journalists by monetizing news and watering down verification so he could make more money but mostly lose the most money

What a weird way to view the world. Your framing implies that Elon's Xitter is "your" party's propaganda mechanism, which means you're admitting "your" party favors Ukrainian annexation into russia and US stochastic terrorism

I see that @Stros121 checked in for a drive by neg. Good to see you. Did you ever get around to reading that judicial opinion I posted, describing in detail Trump's months long effort to steal the election, despite being told by everyone in his circle that the election was not stolen? Any thoughts on that?

One side of the political divide committing to alienating and then attacking him was a colossal mistake. But it might work out and help us in the end by providing extra motivation.
