What’s funny is this dumbass doesn't realize he’s really one of the biggest national security assets we have. These are not serious people. Just vindictive people who want their enemies crushed even if it keeps America from fluorishing.

The possible russian asset poster, who keeps making new names every time he gets crowdsourced so he can keep promoting Russian interests, promoting an illegal alien with direct ties to Putin as our biggest national security asset doesn’t raise any suspicions whatsoever.

I'm old enough to remember when his private company rescued two of our stranded astronauts from the space station.

Our expansion into space is almost solely dependent on his company.

Pretty sure the Pentagon started picking up the tab in late 2022 or '23, so once again, Elon thrives off the gubmint tit.

Which would be fine so long as he didn't rail against others who profit from federal subsidies or get credited with some sort of altruistic donation.

This.  Let's write the truthful headline:

"One of world's leading beneficiaries of a government's subsidies is going to be put in charge of reducing that government's spending."

It's literally one of the most insane sentences ever written, yet it is the actual plan for Elon Musk.  And there are tens of millions of people who think that's awesome.

I’ll bet a $1 that trump and Leon have a falling out before anything ever happens.

I’d like to know how Leon believes that Trump ditching the EV credit is going to help Tesla sales.

Isn’t Trump also scared of autonomous vehicles?

The thing is that Peter Thiel has more influence with trump than Leon could ever hope. Thiel doesn’t like Musk. He won’t let Musk get enough influence.

Leon’s thirst for attention will put him at odds with trump, who is more thirsty. On top of that Leon basically thinks he can play trump to run things, which will piss off trump more.

You combine those things, you have a recipe for Leon losing favor with the Donald pretty quick.

Elon was a useful idiot for Trump.

I've lost almost 500 followers on X since the election. On the other hand, I've gained about 140 on Threads and 45-50 on Blue Sky, so it's not a total loss.

Our social media will become even more bifurcated, I'm thinking.

Threads is gaining a huge number of new followers every day. Zuckerburg indicated roughly one million per day in his conference call. Now up to 275 million.  I wish it would gain some of X's functionality.

Thiel is the real bond villain here and he has been playing the long game backing JD and he's playing for keeps. I don't know that Elmo is going to have the influence that he thinks he is. I do hope he keeps bumping his gums about being the shadow president.

Yeah, in a contest between Thiel and Leon, Leon is going down.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Thiel pushes through an executive order or legislation that gets rid of the EV tax break as well as the carbon credit stuff (which Tesla relies on for a huge chunk of its profits). If he got rid of the tax break and the carbon credit stuff, would Tesla even survive?

Yeah, I'm gaining steadily on Threads and Blue Sky. Mastodon is kind of a wash for me - it had a lot of potential, but it's more intimidating for new users who can't figure out what server to go with.

I wish the Facebook management would drop their opposition to Threads having DMs and instead forcing people to Instagram, because a lot of us using Threads rarely use Instagram. If you want to offer an alternative to twitter, better have most of its functionality.

Yep, I deactivated my Twitter account Tuesday night. So I'm one of the followers you lost. Sorry.

I can't do Threads or BlueSky. It feels like those were both created in response to the political climate on Twitter. We need someone to develop an app that can properly mimic what moderated and demonetized Twitter used to be 10 years ago, which had more of a focus on entertainment and laughs while also being a news feed.

I honestly have no idea why so many people left twitter for another shittier platform run by another shitty billionaire. Fuck Threads.

Besides making sure the foreign EV tarriff is kept and/or raise, he'll just have the government start buying all his vehicles directly. USPS about to put in a large order followed by GSA fleet... oh and they will need charging stations everywhere suddenly.  It will be a fair and open bidding process, wink wink.

Does bluesky have the option to see the oldest posts first and then scroll up to the newest ones? Ridiculous that it didnt for a long time.

I feel like Blue Sky is that. It's just going to take some time to hit its stride.

This. It's still early, but no algo, no billionaire owner, and it's highly customizable from a moderation/auto blocking/labeling standpoint.

But at the same time I don't know that I want to be as plugged in to the day-to-day fuckery that is going to kick off in the new year.

like the end of a sci fi movie. Nobody wants to be his friend even with all the tech and all the money.

The problem with leaving Twitter is the election just showed that twitter, if you can sift through the shit, is always hours and hours ahead of the news. Especially when it is local. The problem with the current view of modern media is that their own information silos hurt them in providing real timely news..

In many ways TMZ in the 2000s was the harbinger of what Twitter is now.. There is a ton of weird shit, but they are all over breaking news that others are afraid/unwilling to report.

And Zuck was the first to cuck to Trump and kiss the ring after the election as called. Threads will probably go the direction of Twitter but the change will be subtle.

The point I was trying to make wasn't that people shouldn't leave, but that they shouldn't go to Threads.

I think the point is now that people should jerk off while watching the ceiling fan, but perhaps I'm reading something into it.

At least for me the collapse of the local news aspect is what finally got me go shove off. Used to be I could find updates of random Nebraska/Kansas 6 and 8 man updates easily, but that went away this year. Otherwise most of the folks I found interesting/useful I replaced in aggregate with other sources, and after that I decided it was bad for me to spend my time gawking at assholes saying stupid shit in bad faith.

Elmo was on some sort of science board for the dotard in his first administration.  He lasted about a month before he pulled the plug / got shit-canned.

Regarding Threads. My algorithm is tuned to only receiving posts from women stating what's up #ATX or #SATX.

This is pretty impressive because Twitter never zeroed in on my targeted demographic before.

I'm sure threads will send up where Twitter is. But as of right now, it's actually pretty decent.

Yeah, Threads is nice, except for the no DMs thing, but maybe that's part of why it's nice - there's rarely any bots (I think I've seen a few in the past 6 months), and the conversations can be pretty solid once you find your community.

While it has a high user number, the lack of advertising is keeping the bots at bay.

“Space flight is still something we don’t fully understand, we’re finding things that we don’t expect sometimes. This was one of those times, and we’re still piecing things together on this and so to maintain medical privacy and to let our processes go forward in an orderly manner, this is all we’re going to say about that event at this time,” NASA astronaut Michael Barratt told reporters on Friday. “That leaves us 235 days, three hours and 35 minutes of Crew-8 experience that is open to your questions.”
