Elon followed the Eskimo Hut (no relation) business model.

But he’s totally cool with the results: carving up liberal democracies, ending a global community organizing site, scattering legitimate journalists, and stifling voices from around the world.

Someone on this thread made the observation that you never see a woman in the passenger seat. It's always just a guy by himself. Since I read that I always look, and it's almost always the case. I did see a couple get out of one at HEB the other day. Mid-50s guy, short, bald, grey goatee, body by TRT, and his Asian wife/gf with giant fake tits and face full of fillers and botox.

That's accurate as hell in my experience,  I like when they look over and smile with both hands off the wheel. So cool.

Did see two on the side of the road broke down in the last week.

How Tesla is quietly rebranding the Cybertruck

When Tesla launched the Cybertruck in 2023, it was the product of four years of hype. The boxy electric pickup was the company's first new model since 2020. Kim Kardashian, Pharrell Williams, and Justin Bieber were spotted riding around in it. With a million people on the truck's reservation list and a $120,000 price tag, it quickly became a status symbol.

Less than two years later, the waitlist has disappeared. Trucks are piling up in sales lots. Fewer than 50,000 vehicles have been delivered. Some owners have become political targets thanks to CEO Elon Musk's association with President Donald Trump.

Enter a quiet rebrand.

Over the past few months, Tesla has moved to position the Cybertruck as a working man's vehicle — less DeLorean, more Ford F-150. The company updated its website, ditching an other-worldly aesthetic for images that feature the truck hauling equipment and an Airstream trailer. And sales workers at the company told Business Insider it's become increasingly difficult to move the truck off sales lots. The vehicle, they said, needs to appeal to the traditional truck buyer.

"Pitching it to truck people is more about the functionality," said one salesperson who works in the South. "They want to know how much it can tow, how much can fit in the truck bed."

———

Tesla has sold less than 50,000 Cybertrucks.  Last year, Ford sold 765,000 F-series, and in 2023 they sold 750,000.

We went down to Oak Cliff for the Hamilton Leithauser show at The Kessler last night. The Tesla "dealership" near Love Field is on our way. Behind there is a massive lot with Teslas, mostly Cybertrucks. We've never seen it that full. Just rows and rows and rows of CTs.

The last time I was in Austin a couple of months ago, I saw an actual real-life woman driving one. She was turning right onto Oltorf from Lamar.

I flipped her the bird.

Wait, I thought his possessions were weighing him down and he was giving up everything to prepare for Mars?

Don't fuck with West Lake Hills. Which one of you is Mr. Hemmer????

At first, residents of the upscale cul-de-sac in West Lake Hills, Texas, did not know who had moved into the 6,900-square-foot, six-bedroom mansion next door.
Then construction workers arrived to erect a 16-foot chain-link fence around the $6 million property, which is one of four homes on the leafy street. They also installed an outward-facing camera. Next, a fleet of cars — many of them Teslas — began parking on the street. Three times a day, a shift change signaled security personnel coming and going at the house. Once, the driver of a passing car shouted late at night that he was looking for a party at “E’s house.”
Mr. Hemmer, who has long owned a Tesla, grew so frustrated with his neighbor that he began flying a drone over the house to check for city violations, and he keeps a video camera trained on the property around the clock. Last year, he complained to West Lake Hills officials about Mr. Musk’s fence, the traffic and how he thought the owner was operating a security business from the property.
Mr. Musk’s security team also contacted the West Lake Hills Police Department about Mr. Hemmer, according to city records. One security official accused Mr. Hemmer last year of standing naked in the street, according to the records.
Mr. Hemmer denied that he was naked and said he was on his property wearing black underwear. On another night, he said, he was walking his dog fully clothed and stopped when he suddenly needed to urinate — which Mr. Musk’s camera captured.
“The cameras got me,” Mr. Hemmer said. “It’s scary they have guys sitting and watching me pee.”

My sister did. Has a lot of buyer's remorse.

Got vandalized several weeks back as someone spray-painted "Nazi Fuck" on it. Pics of it made the rounds on Reddit.

They caught the guy as they were able to combine parking garage security camera footage with a rando's phone video. Some 50 year old father of two. I don't like them either, but what were you thinking dude?

Nothing to see here, just the US Government using tariffs as a bargaining chip to force acceptance of a service owned by someone high up within the administration.

I'm totally sure this isn't just the world's most clumsily transparent attempt at intercepting sensitive communications.

Musk is the kind of guy, that if he finds out that brown-eyed people see in color, or he realizes that the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation, had three shifts, and that Data was the night shift because he needs no sleep, that Rike ran the morning shift, and that Picard ran the afternoon shift, he'd immediately go out on twitter and start telling everybody like that was some kind of new information, even though most of us of his generation knew these things back in the 90s or even late 80s.

Plus this little detail because why not boost revenue in more than just sales:

"According to Wired, Starlink supplies key support to scam centers in Southeast Asia with "criminals running multibillion-dollar empires across Southeast Asia appear to be widely using the satellite internet network." Wired identified more than one hundred Starlink devices in use at just one center, KK Park in Myanmar."

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2025/05/tesla-sales-fall-by-62-in-the-uk-46-in-germany/

Last month, Tesla sold just 512 cars in the UK and 885 cars in Germany

Quote

Tesla is in deep trouble in Europe. The electric vehicle maker, which once dominated EV sales in the region, is facing sales declines of more than 50 percent in France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and the UK. Sales in Germany weren't quite as bad—they fell by 46 percent in April, with slightly smaller decreases in Portugal and Spain. Only Italy and Norway saw any kind of sales growth.

The headwinds were already looking unfavorable for Tesla even before CEO Elon Musk threw his lot in with Donald Trump and his authoritarian makeover of the US government. A small and outdated product portfolio was already looking stale compared to the influx of EVs from Chinese brands and European automakers, but Musk's hard-right turn and the US government's ongoing antagonism toward the rest of the world has soured the brand entirely. And a recent styling refresh for the Model Y has failed to arrest the slide.

Quote

The UK has been one of Tesla's biggest markets in Europe, and it's seeing something of an EV boom, with 8.1 percent more BEVs registered in April 2025 than the year before, even as overall car sales have dropped by 10.4 percent year on year. But Tesla's sales fell by 62 percent—the automaker registered just 512 cars all month. For context, 120,331 new cars were registered in the UK last month, of which 24,558 were BEVs.

Quote

In Germany, the overall car market fared much better, with new registrations decreasing by just 0.2 percent in April. Of those new cars, 45,535 were BEVs—a 53.5 percent increase year over year. In the context of those rising BEV sales, Tesla's 46 percent year on year decline should have alarm bells ringing.

Some other European countries are smaller markets for Tesla but have seen even more significant sales declines. In Sweden, Tesla sales dropped 81 percent. In the Netherlands, sales were down 73.8 percent. In Denmark, sales fell by 67 percent, and in France, they fell by 59 percent.

With a claimed annual capacity of 375,000 vehicles, Tesla's factory on the outskirts of Berlin seems likely to be underutilized for some time. In its Q1 financial report, Tesla said it has a global capacity of 2.35 million cars a year and sold 1.8 million cars in 2024.

Musk seems like a guy who was elite at identifying good ideas built out by other people, then using daddy's millions to overtake them and claim all the credit for work he never did and has no idea how to do.

Oh, and yeah, lets forget about Sanctions on Burma. YES, I called it BURMA.

We need to just go ahead and repeal the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, it's embarrassingly hypocritical at this point.

From Wikipedia:

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 (FCPA) (15 U.S.C. § 78dd-1, et seq.) is a United States federal law that prohibits U.S. citizens and entities from bribing foreign government officials to benefit their business interests.

Explain how this isn't exactly what our government is doing directly.

Well sir, that clearly says US citizens can't bribe foreign officials. It doesn't say anything about being the ones TAKING and SOLICITING bribes. You must be woke.
