Mfer can sing though

My favorite male singer. Never heard the asshole rumors tho. Seems pretty cool on Live at Daryl's House.

Yeah.  I can't go for that.

Spoiler alert:

My experience is limited to watching the show.

After a lot of bullshit and time wasting - some of it necessary and some not so much - they get to blond guy and Steve Perry who deliver the goods.

First take, one take.

Zero b.s. out of those two.

He may be an asshole but that night he was all bidness.

Doesn't mean you want to be stuck on an island with him.

If you are choosing based on performance of their respective part of the song- I don’t know how you can exclude Dionne Warwick from the top group, let alone the honorable mention group.

I guess it wasn’t her fault that the sound guy couldn’t get her ear cans right, but they wasted some time on that.

Add her and Ray Charles to my running list but pretty sure both would be dead weight on my island.

Neither here nor there, but I was probably 30 before I realized that She Bop was about Lauper flicking her bean.

Girls just want to have fun.

Watched this last night. So much interesting stuff in it. Herculean effort by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie (after hosting an awards show!) to keep it on track. Geldof giving a speech to get everyone’s minds right. Al Jarreau getting too drunk to sing. Bob Dylan - IMO one of the top 5 most influential people in the room - lacking confidence because he’s way out of his comfort zone. The insane transcendent talent of MJ and Stevie Wonder. Waylon Jennings peacing out when they start talking about putting in Swahili lyrics (Wikipedia says they talked him into coming back but that’s not shown in the doc). A guy like Steve Perry standing around for hours and then nailing his one line in one try. Huey Lewis just being a normal everyday guy and proxy for the audience. And on and on.

On top of all that, just watching the background and seeing so many megastars just kinda standing around hanging out is wild. My biggest question is how/why they didn’t get Madonna. They mentioned her for one second early on and showed her at the awards ceremony but never addressed why she didn’t participate.

Lauper thought Madonna was a total bitch and froze her out like Tony Kukoc
