There has been talk about this for a while, but now it appears to be happening with the announcement tomorrow - they are going to announce a new Blue Card - between the Yellow and Red (likely blue to make it easy for the fans to see). It's meant for cynical fouls and berating officials. When shown this card, a player will be off the field for 10 minutes.

A lot of people feel it would be for this type of foul, which right now usually gets only a yellow:

From what I read, this will first be used in next year's FA Cup.

Would love to see this applied to time-wasting "injuries."

Oh, you're hurt so bad you need the magic spray and a stretcher? OK, your team will just play at least 10 minutes short-handed. Only then--or unless you're subbed--will I wave you back on.

All the bullshit would end OVERNIGHT.

At some point Mexico will only have 7 players on the pitch against the USMNT….

So the IFAB (International Football Association Board - the rules body of soccer) were going to announce the new Blue Card today. But they got push back from FIFA, so no Blue Card.

It seems like the IFAB got a little too quick and

I should add- this is simply for the blue card at the highest level of play. My understanding is that the 10 minutes power play is a thing in lower divisions of soccer, just not the top pro leagues.

The foul in the OP should have been a straight red.

So is this like a hockey minor penalty power play in the sense that if the opposition scores the player comes back in? Or, is it like a hockey major penalty where regardless of scoring you sit the time you sit?
