December 8Dec 8 Wrapped up The Beast in Me Spoiler I didn’t like how two dimensional Nile became at the end, and the way he was caught was soooo contrived. Really, he confessed to both murders aloud to his wife while she secretly recorded him? Kinda hackneyed. But aside from that Rhys was a great villain and Brittany Snow is going to make a great addition to the over 40 and still got it thread next year. I’d still recommend the show especially since it’s a one and done.
December 9Dec 9 Saw a movie tonight that’s ostensibly a Christmas movie, but the way the story was put together was pretty cool. It’s called Klaus and Norm McDonald voices one of the characters. I had never seen it before, but Regal was running it tonight. Everyone there seemed to enjoy it. Edited December 9Dec 9 by UpperWestside

Decent acting, but the message is rather trite. Train Dreams was better when it came to getting into your head and making you feel and think. I'll probably finish it, but if something else pops up in the meantime, it won't be hard to persuade me to watch something that looks more promising. My wife picked this one over the weekend and I went in blind. 10 minutes in and was thinking to myself "this feels like some mid-level Kurt Sutter bullshit." Got to the end credits of EP 1 saw his name pop up and laughed. I told my wife, "I'm surprised he didn't horn Katey Sagal into this show." Opening scene of EP 2 and - boom - there's Katey Sagal. Dude is a hack.
December 10Dec 10 A few years ago, someone posted a short clip from "Brockmire" on here. It looked like a great show, but I don't have cable, so I never saw it. Anyhoodle, the first four seasons are on Netflix, and I just started it. Really digging it.

I look forward to seeing where this story goes.
December 10Dec 10 Hell yeah, hope Brockmire finds life on Netflix. I didn’t like season 4, but the first 3 are so awesome.
December 11Dec 11 The Puff Daddy show is a good watch. I had forgotten how much shit he'd been involved with beyond the sex crimes. Kind of mind blowing so many famous rich people had anything to do with him.

December 12Dec 12 Fucking puff daddy doc. Dude def killed pac and biggie. I hope he’s next I remember thinking that when he came out with his first album. He had biggie killed to sell his album.
December 13Dec 13 Jay Kelly. What a beautiful, grounded, movie about life and regret from the least likely sources you’d expect. Bravo.
December 13Dec 13 The new Knives Out movie sucked. A mediocre--and largely unused--ensemble cast. Disappointing after the original and Glass Onion.

Kind of mind blowing so many famous rich people had anything to do with him.Puff Daddy is who everyone claimed Suge Knight was. Directly involved in both the deaths of Pac and Biggie. The only thing I questioned during watching it was none of these people said anything when the money was rolling in and they were living it up. They only are speaking on him now once everyone piled on and I'm sure 50 Cent was paying them to get on this documentary and trash Puff. No one did anything to stop this maniac at his height of fame.

I think it had more to do with just how powerful puff was throughout the 90s and 00s. Shit, the argument can be made he still is very powerful, at least in some ways. Me personally, I always hated puff, and hope things get really interesting next year, when the one crip guy has his trial.

December 13Dec 13 The Puffy thing made me think even less of J.Lo, which I didn’t think was possible.

But he was a different level of gangsta. He did his behind the scenes with money. He was the one pulling the strings as opposed to being out there doing the shit himself. As you mentioned, those are the powerful ones.

I thought it was a mixed bag -- a movie that couldn't really decide what it wanted to be. There were times (esp. early in the film) that I wondered whether it was supposed to be a straight satire of Hollywood. I thought Clooney was very good in his role, FWIW.

December 15Dec 15 Just finished Brockmire. Hank Azaria was gold. An easy watch and didn't drag on longer than it needed. Great show, although the last season was weird.
December 15Dec 15 I think glass onion is the worst, but neither holds a candle to the original. Agree.
December 15Dec 15 1) Star Trek 2) Beyond (huge gap) 3) Into DarknessHa, I’d shuffle that order. I like Darkness, ST, and then a big jump to Beyond.

Loved it from beginning to end. That said... I am someone who enjoys engaging with questions of religion and wrestling with what Christianity should look like. I can see how this movie could be boring or off-putting if you aren't into that. It's a pretty big piece of this film. It's coming in at 92/94 on RT, so take that for what it's worth. A lot of people are connecting with it and enjoying another ride in this series. I agree that the first installation is the best (they can't all have Ana de Armas), but I thought this was a worthy entry and miles better than Glass Onion (which was still pretty enjoyable for what it was).
December 16Dec 16 I thought it was too long. Still enjoyable. The original all of the characters were epic. Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, JLC, Plummer, and Collette all killed it. The sequels the peripheral characters are pretty flat.

I just don't get the point of an ensemble movie where the ensemble is barely used. They each had a forgettable line or two (if that) while Craig and the priest were running around in their own, separate buddy cop movie.

Agree that the Glass Onion characters were pretty one dimensional, but they at least were involved in the story. A relatively shallow, dumb movie, but incredibly rewatchable since it inadvertently became the defacto Elon Musk biography.

Agree with your thoughts on Glass Onion as well as neither the 2nd or 3rd come close to the original movie. The new one is better, but is really slow getting started with so much build up that you would think things would progress at a fairly quick pace in the second half and yet it falls into the same plodding pace. My wife and I talked about this and for us, what made the first one so good was not the cast (which was great), but the story that moved along and gave us mixed possibilities of who killed Harlan. Glass Onion was so bad it would have been if they had just gone full parody and the story in third was was too long and the ending seemed as if they never really came up with a good idea how to close it out.
Sunday at 01:13 AM4 days Breakdown: 1975 was a good social commentary and obvious parallels to today. The 70s were weird as shit in general, I’ve always thought. Wonder if I’ll look back on the present like that.
