April 19, 20232 yr If you dropped off your DVD before 8am at the 6th & Guadalupe post office, Netflix used the same post office so it would be received by them the same day and your next DVD went out that day also. Binged 24 and Alias using that quick turnaround.
April 19, 20232 yr Just started watching the Physical 100. It's like squid games for gym rats, pretty good so far. For those who don't like dubbed movies, this isn't for you.

April 19, 20232 yr The Sting is a fucking great movie. The poker game scene on the train is an all-timer. I'm in the middle of watching Outlast. At first I was disappointed that there wasn't more focus on the techniques the teams were using to survive (e.g., building shelter, finding food, etc.) such a shitty environment in which to be outdoors for an extended period of time. Instead, the focus is more on the intra-team dynamics and the dealings between the various teams. The more I watch, though, the more I'm getting into it, in large part because I'm curious to see what the next act of backstabbing fuckery will be and by whom. Watched The Sting a few months ago. This was so good. It was intense for me at the end and a great ending.

An estimated 1.1 million–1.3 million people subscribed to the DVD service last year in 2022, generating $145.7 million in revenue for Netflix (not the worst biz). The first DVD Netflix ever sent was Beetlejuice in 1998. The most frequently requested DVD was The Blind Side.

Then with Netflix, I could watch any movie or show I wanted and just remember to mail it in. I was one the 3 DVD's at a time and then 5 for a while. As long as I timed everything right, I always had everything just in time. Alias was an early show, too.
April 20, 20232 yr The dvd service was really good back in the day with a great selection of old movies. Many you can’t find streaming on any services still.

That wait for the next DVD seemed so long.

April 22, 20232 yr Loved loved loved "A Monster Calls" . Just finished it Close to perfect. Fucking allergies were bad in the room though. Highly recommend.
April 22, 20232 yr Longest Third Date is cute, easy watch. Couple goes to Costa Rica on their third date and gets stuck there when the world shuts down due to Rona.

April 23, 20232 yr I powered through The Diplomat. Keri Russell is great. It’s got a weird tone because it’s a super serious/intense subject matter but it’s like they got one of the ancillary writers on In The Loop to punch up the script a bit because there is like this sardonic and whimsical feel to a lot of the dialogue. Rufus Sewell is fantastic. He wasted his whole career playing self-serious villains. The dude has fucking great comedic timing.

April 23, 20232 yr Just like a life well lived. I had this philosophy for quite a long time. And I’m not arguing, but at nearly the double nickel, I can honestly say I can do without the fucked up just fine from here on out.

April 23, 20232 yr Longest Third Date is cute, easy watch. Couple goes to Costa Rica on their third date and gets stuck there when the world shuts down due to Rona. We enjoyed it too. Just stumbled onto it and we watched it. Khali Le is so hot in her little bikinis. You gotta wonder how it would have been for them if either had lost their jobs.
April 24, 20232 yr Kerri Russel’s hair on The Diplomat is just god awful. Greasy with this terrible shape that looks like she is about to sing an acoustic set at Lilith Fair…..
April 24, 20232 yr For cord-cutters who've been waiting on Netflix to pick up the last season of Better Call Saul, it has finally arrived.
April 24, 20232 yr Schwarzenegger's first TV series. Not going to lie, kind of intrigued - Monica Barbara is in it.

April 24, 20232 yr Kerri Russel’s hair on The Diplomat is just god awful. Greasy with this terrible shape that looks like she is about to sing an acoustic set at Lilith Fair…..That’s the point, except it was funny when you in one scene it’s a once a week washed look and then the next it’s been blown out. My wife was pointing that out to me everytime. To which I will say it’s funny because I can point to a few former federal prosecutors that fit the same type of person. Wore the same 3-5 work suits, hair always like they didn’t give a shit, car was always like it needed a car wash even if they just came from a car wash…. But 2 of them would stand toe to toe with the worst drug traffickers while in La Picota, they went hard in trial prep and trial even when credible threat were made on us.2 of them are now in DC steady moving up the chain. We are enjoying this show.

I lost it in the scene when she comes back from DC hung over and her assistant just comes in and sets a hairbrush on her desk.
April 24, 20232 yr So the Arnold series is True Lies: The Daughter Grows Up with Fortune Feimster in the Tom Arnold role? I'll probably check it out.

April 25, 20232 yr Also want to give high marks for Beef. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes fucked up. I’ve recommended it to a few friends. Amy and Isaac’s characters are so well done. I need to keep this show in mind when I feel like I’m getting pissed off about something trivial. On the flip side, The Night Agent was terrible. Netflix has made a couple of spy shows like The Recruit and Gray Man that weren’t bad. The Night Agent was just plain bad. The story and acting were awful, I’m surprised I finished it. Going to Try Florida Man next.
April 25, 20232 yr Anyone besides me excited for Season 2 of Sweet Tooth, which drops Thursday? Been almost 2 years since Season 1. Currently done with first 3 episodes of Beef. Enjoying it thoroughly.

Serious West Wing vibes (duh, The Diplomat show runner/EP also worked on West Wing). And Keri Russell, greasy hair or not, would get it.

April 27, 20232 yr I didn’t finish it. Didn’t finish Florida Man either. I thought night agent was alright but the Recruit was a beating to watch and had to give it up. Working on Florida Man now and it seems lackluster at points and full of filler at others but I'm only 4 episodes in.
