December 9, 20232 yr Okay didn’t see this coming. Looks dorky but apparently Archie comics are huge in India. About The Archies Movie (2023) Set in the 1960s, a musical drama based on Archie Comics that finds Indian actors taking on the beloved characters. An experience bursting with youth, rebellion, friendships, first loves, and everything young adult.

All hat/no cattle describes the ending of this otherwise worth a watch movie. Cast was A+, story was intense at times, and I did stay for the last scene. Should have had "to be continued. . ." when it ended leaving too many outcomes unresolved.

The film can inspire tenseness and awkwardness. Not a mainstream type of film. Expect to feel strange/weird while watching. Very very weird feeling and watch. Was kind of struggling through it, and wondering where it’s going, but it won me over in act 3. Performances were great and I just love Natalie Portman, which helped my reception of the film. The musical cues that come in are so out of place feeling and funny.

December 12, 20232 yr I thought Leave the World Behind was good. In 2+ hours they accomplished pretty much the same that some post-apocalyptic tv series takes 1 full season to accomplish. I could see this as the initial part of a world building franchise. It's hard to believe that Netflix won't want to expand on this. Franchises are important to them.

I thought it was good, but not great - which is a pretty good barometer for a Netflix original movie lately. Little preachy in the social commentary wrt race from the daughter. But overall, it built a lot of suspense, it left open a lot of questions and it was generally very anxiety inducing with the cinematography and music (and I watched it very high in the dark, so that didn't help at all).

The daughter was quick to assume that they were treated poorly due to their race but it's just a story with characters that have unknown backgrounds. Characters can be racist or incorrectly assumed to be so. Not a big deal either way. Edited December 12, 20232 yr by Nice Guy Eddie

We enjoyed it, but halfway we knew we were headed for that open "what/if, who knows?" ending. I had not heard of the book. The cast attracted us to it. Later googled that the Obamas' production company was behind it and had some "notes" for the director. Interesting...
December 12, 20232 yr Lately Netflix has sucked. Nothing but "releases" of old ass movies I already own or have seen on other apps already. I binged Squid games...and now I am empty. For the most expensive app I have it needs to step it up.

Myha'la Herrold continues her streak of playing incredibly annoying characters. This was a silly movie, but perfect for a Tuesday night and a 10mg gummy after the kids go to sleep.
December 12, 20232 yr Leave the world behind. Interesting story. Didn’t care for the ending, my wife was super pissed at the ending… she did not like the little girl, lol.The social commentary was amusing, the youthful black girl consistently playing the race themes, the older Karen playing the “hear me, let me speak to the manager” motif. It was fine.I will say what irritated me more than anything was no one dressing appropriately for the situations… I kept saying “flip flops?!? Wtf! A sun dress and sandals?!? Dress shoes and slacks?!?” My wife bitches at me hoarding(I don’t) supplies and first aid gear and shit but then watches this movie and says we need lifestraws!!! (No shit, that’s why I buy a box of them every few years when I have leftover FSA $…)Oh and the self-driving cars was something I had bitched/wondered about, as well as On* kill switches in a massive cyber attack. That was a pretty freaky part.

December 13, 20232 yr Leave the World Behind: interesting story idea, felt like the movie was trying too hard with the excessive camera moves/effects, the music, and some of the story. Felt like a lesser version of Don’t Look Up.

December 13, 20232 yr Probably already mentioned, but wife and I watched In The Dark. We both enjoyed it but, woah, it was intense. Got to the point where we could only watch 2 episodes at a time and then take a break for a couple of days. Great acting.

December 14, 20232 yr I did think the ending of Leave The World Behind was decent. Disaster movies don't have to have "happy" endings. That being said, Elvis has a good list of what is wrong with the movie in general. I wish Julia Roberts character was less of a hateful bitch.
