I still have two episodes left of Black Rabbit, but I have loved it for the most part. The push and pull of two flawed, unlikeable characters competing to see which one is king dipshit is fun for me.  But I also wouldn't recommend it to everyone I know.

Obviously most on here have seen it, but goddamn this Sheen doc is good. About 3/4 of the way through ep 1.

It's kind of an obvious redemption effort by Sheen.   It was Ok but damn if he isn't still a smarmy prick.

Binged all for episodes of Adolescence last night.

Really good.

Last episode was hard to watch.

On of the best things I’ve watched on Netflix

If you like stories about medieval history, particularly the Black Plague in Italy, The Decameron is pretty damned good. Didn’t even recognize Tony Hale.

Tom Segura’s Bad Thoughts is pretty good as well.

Monster is pretty brilliant. It's horrific, but not gratuitously. I'd never heard of Gein.

Anyway, I think it's elite.

Watched Wind River again today.   Man, such a great but heart wrenching movie.  I forgot how well cast this was;  Renner is fantastic and Olson does a good job, in a limited amount of time, of making her character really stand out.   Graham Green is excellent as well whenever he's on screen.  The scene at the end with Cory and Martin is so good.  It would have been easy to end the movie in the hospital room but having Cory visit Martin really makes it all hit hard especially when Cory sees the picture of the two girls together.

You’re forgetting peak Elizabeth Olsen and Monica are pieces of ass.

My wife is a big Son's of Anarchy era Charlie Hunnam fan, so I told her there was this new show on Netflix that he's in that we should start watching.

Yeah, no sex for me tonight.

I don't know if its gonna be worth the time investment yet.  Does not feel as good as Dahmer to me after one episode.

Ed Gein? Maître d’ at Canal Bar?

The show is done really well. Never seen this actor before but man he goes for it. We usually watch something lighter right after to try to cleanse the palate.

I want to know what happened to Taylor Sheridan that he went from writing female characters like Olsen and Emily Blunt in Sicario to...literally every female character since.

Marriage does that to a man.

I knew I recognized something about the actor but couldn't place him. As said above your post, it's the actor from Sons of Anarchy. He's brilliant in this. We watched it the same way.

Goredho, I was wondering if we should proceed after the first episode. We were fascinated but, more than that, we were unsettled. It's not the same thing episode after episode. There's are real character arcs and a terrific cast to dramatize them. The tie to future movies is used in a very interesting way. The second to last episode includes scenes that border on the obscene as my beloved noted. Richard Speck became maybe the most depraved human to enter my sight. The portrayal is dead accurate. I recall seeing a photo and video of him in prison in the news last century.

It's pretty simple.  Look at the money made from his great writing vs the money made from his shit writing.  He knows where to spend his time.

Yeah, I will keep watching, not sure if my wife will.  I can't imagine binging it, though.  Unsettling is a good word for it.   After one episode, I wanted something else to remove it from my brain.

I am late to the Unknown Number party.

Spoiler

I am going to go ahead and say a prayer for the dude that marries Lauren and any children she may have.  There is no way she is going to be able to be a mentally healthy person in this lifetime.  And she was the only sympathetic figure in the whole mess.  The sociopathic mom is obviously off the charts, but the other kids, their parents, I kind of want them all to be sequestered away from the rest of society.

A colleague told me that they are bringing back Mindhunter for a third season, so I went to look it up, because Mindhunter is incredible. Turns out the end of this show recreates a lot of Mindhunter including using the same actors, actors who look similar, and scenes as well. Apparently it drew some backlash from the Mindhunter faithful. I'm not at the end yet, but I'm curious how it was done.

Anyone watching Wayward?  I always get interested when a mystery, twist series is number one

I started getting annoyed around 4 and 5. The end is terrible.

I've read the same about the series other than Black Rabbit we are watching:  Alien Earth.  Why can't people stick the endings????

We started Wayward last night. After two episodes, it's pretty good. There's some mundane character development in the first episode.

Speaking of mundane, we've watched a few episodes of Manifest which I started based on critical acclaim. It's very much like a soap opera with character portrayals. I'm hoping they develop something interesting about what happened with the flight soon or they'll lose me. It's all stock characters, predictable relationships, and the mundane ominousness of the NSA. The flight survivors need some spice and maybe even a villain.

I don't know how good the cast is. They're trapped in two dimensions. I'll reveal more as we get deeper in.

+1 on The Decameron. That show was funny as all get out.

Edit: @RomaVicta, I think you especially would like it.

I'm about to start the second season of 1617, an absurdist comedy set in medieval Poland.

I think it is because they are sometimes trying for a 2nd season but still want an ending or cliff hanger.  it is hard to thread that needle.

Black Rabbit seemed like a one and done though vs. Alien Earth which seemed to always be trying for multiple seasons. (I haven't read up on either so not sure if there was a multi season contract for either).

How the hell have people not heard of Ed Gein. He inspired Leatherface, Hannibal Lector, and I’m sure others I’m forgetting.

I'm way late to this but we started watching Emily in Paris after getting back from Paris and it's a cute show.  Even better if you know the location they're filming.

Also, I learned that the lead actress, Lily Collins, is Phil Collins' daughter and her husband is Charlie McDowell, whose parents are Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen, which also makes Ted Danson her step father-in-law.  Hollywood is an incredibly incestuous place.....

Beth is great.  Tater is great.  Elsa Dutton is 1883 is fantastic, as was her mom (faith hill), and of course there's Helen Mirren is 1923 who plays an absolute badass.

This.  Dude was wild, and apparently they nailed his weird mannerisms, speech, etc.

*and it was the Buffalo Bill character, not Lector.  It puts the lotion on the skin, etc.....

Yeah, the cast was great, the setting was great, and I would love more revolving around the original Decameron stories.

I can't find the graphic about how people rate Monster. I know some publications are harping on it's terribly low rotten tomatoes score.

The graphic showed almost all ratings either a 5 or a 1, and I totally get it.

Loved Dahmer but I only made it about halfway through the second episode on this one. I was bored.

As you now surely know, he was the inspiration for Psycho and multiple other horror stories. Just an ungodly horrifying mess. I won’t watch it.

Just watched Beauty and the Bester.  Crazy story, but the documentary just skimmed the surface and wasn't very good.

Gein is a strange one.  he is of course a serial killer by definition but most of the story is about the stuff he did before he started killing which isn't like Dahmer, Kemper, Green River, Bundy, etc.  He's a weird case and I can see how it could be viewed as boring.

I am giving up on Ed Gein half way through.

Spoiler

Heavy handed, pretentious and just kind of a clumsy mess.  Reminds me of the Texas offense.

My brother, we aren't getting a third season of Mindhunter. My idiot colleague misinterpreted the last episode of Ed Gein. Best we can hope for is a movie or two to tie it together, as Holt Mccallanay alluded to.

Yeah, it kinda sucks. If you have to fabricate 70% of the show, maybe you should just pick a different monster

Documentary it isn't.  We gave up on it after the third episode.  It seems as if someone read the Wiki page and began filling in the gaps with BS to make it more dramatic or weird in an effort to keep the viewer interested.  The redundant "weirdness" is somewhat reminiscent of the TAR with the Big Brother theme.  Every episode is BB this or BB that.  It has become a grind also.

I'll finish it but yeah.  It's just segues into all these made up backstories for everyone, and half of every episode seems to be either his nazi fantasy or the movie characters he inspired.  I guess because it happened in the 50s there aren't tons of interviews and such to draw material from.
