Just finished The Carman Family Deaths.  If you like investigative or homicide docs, that's your jam.

An interesting note in there is that they talk about two strangers taking Nathan out of his home, in the middle of the night, kicking and screaming and crying, and sending him to a camp in Utah for troubled teens.  I didn't know that was actually how that goes down, that they basically kidnap you against your will.  One minute you're playing video games, the next minute you're hog-tied in someone's back seat being shipped across the country, and all because your parents asked for it.

And also, the camp they sent him to was the Challenger Foundation, which was featured in a Netflix doc called Hell Camp Teen Nightmare.

Also, Clare Daines acting in this show is comprised of 50% shaking and 50% shocked face

My wife asked if her lower lip got a separate billing in the credits.

Nathan looks like autistic Tom Brady.

That's been her thing ever since Homeland.  I can't really take it anymore.  She has aged quite poorly.

The dubbing is hard to take on these shows

The hilariously bad dubbing is the main reason my wife and I watch them.

Really enjoyed Death By Lightning.  Chester Arthur seemed like a guy I would want to party with in his pre-presidency.

Sausages!

Very well done and acted.  Did almost seem they rushed the end after the rather excruciating detail on Garfield's election and dismantling the Conkling machine.

It's pretty bad. The climax of the movie was too easy as well. No likey.

The Beast in Me was enjoyable imo. Thought Matthew Rhys (loved him in Perry Mason) carried the show (ha).

Carrie was Carrie basically. Danes will always be Carrie to me though.

Why was the jogging path in the woods relevant?

Danes is a much inferior version of Rhys’ real life wife in every way.

Planet of the apes is really earth

Train Dreams is beautifully shot, with obvious nods to Terrence Malick, but doesn't quite have the impact I assume they were going for. William H Macy is great in his brief role though

Narrator: The part of "Rage Rep"  is being played by Charlton Heston.

Wife wanted my opinion on Death by Lightning before she watched it.

Me: The James Garfield death scene was done really well. I never knew that he died on a Monday... by choking on a piece of lasagna.

She let out the largest sigh with an amazing eye roll. Just the response I was going for!

Haha.  We watched the first two episodes last night and my wife made the same comments.  I've never seen Homeland.

It's entertaining enough to get us hooked for now.  Rhys is doing a great job so far.

Season 2 of Man on the Inside is out. Like season 1, it is perfectly harmless.

Steenbergen, at some point when I wasn’t looking, went from milf old to old old.

I watched an episode of Chef & My Fridge. Didn’t make it all the way through. Too much wacky, zany effects and quick cuts. It was a video version of ye olde radio morning zoo.

I thought this was an incredible movie, especially in today's world of seizure inducing superhero action movies.  It's pace & cinematography left room for the story to breath.  I had tears in my eyes as it faded to black.  I found it profoundly moving.

Same. Really lovely movie.

Just finished The Waterfront. Not terrible but seemed like dumbed down, hick version of Ozark. Some of the actors were terrible.  Also, can't take Topher Grace seriously in this role at all. He's still a goofball.

Grace keeps getting roles as the heavy and I don’t get it at all. He’s supposed to be some psycho, hyper violent serial killer in Flight Risk. Also played a white supremacist in BlacKkKlansman.

I made it about 15 minutes through the first episode and realized it wasn't anything I wanted to invest time in.

Yeah, it was a waste in the end seeing as every open plot line won't be addressed since it was cancelled after the one season.

I’m watching physical Asia and manny pacquio is leading the team from the Philippines.   And he’s a big fail.  Tiny guy, old, dad bod.   Just worthless athletically.   Not twitchy. Not a leader.  He dropped out of the show early

I had similar thoughts. Beautifully shot, and this move really wants to be great, which I appreciate. I was moved on occasion, but ultimately fell a bit flat for me. Definitely worth a watch, and really wish I’d seen it in a theater.

Victoria has dropped on Netflix. I strongly recommend, particularly for fans of The Crown and Downton Abbey type shows. It’s about the reign of Queen Victoria and Jenna Coleman is great in the title role.

I’ve seen episodes here and there on PBS and watched some tonight (up with sick kid). Amazing production values.  Would be cool if Netflix picked up production for additional seasons.

Really solid series.

Knives Out 3 is great. I think it hits Netflix next week - I went ahead and caught it at the drafthouse and really enjoyed it.

Just noticed that Caught Stealing is on Netflix - that was a fun flick

So Netflix may end up buying Warner Brothers/HBO Max/Newline Cinema.

Not sure what to think, other than give me Ye Olde Cinemax Friday After Dark/Max After Dark, Real Sex, all of the HBO mini-series, etc.

Been watching.  Definitely a lower budget version of The Crown.  Hard to pass on any show with Rufus Sewell

Two episodes into The Abandons.   It's a good time waster, but other than that, it doesn't have any real chops.  Decent acting, but the message is rather trite.    Train Dreams was better when it came to getting into your head and making you feel and think.

I'll probably finish it, but if something else pops up in the meantime, it won't be hard to persuade me to watch something that looks more promising.

Just now watching The Beast in Me and I really like it. I didn’t expect it to be a murder mystery, I thought it was going to be another global political thing. Claire Danes’ over-emoting doesn’t really bother me in light of the story.
