While I certainly wouldn't travel through the Congo right now, I agree with JR's point.

I've traveled through more than few so called shit holes in Central America and Africa, and the only place I've ever been the victim of a violent crime while traveling was New Orleans.

Yep. I prefer downtown Kabul than downtown DC (insert any US city). And I tend to walk with my 1 local, yes we are both armed, but I listen to them. Being in Risk Management means ya gotta learn real risk.Ā
