Really hard for them to use the portal with the academic hurdles they have to jump through. They lost 1 through 5 in the order last year to the draft or portal along with 4 of their top arms. They have to rely solely on HS recruiting to restock (which they are good at but they are caught in a bad roster cycle). To a lesser extent, it's part of the reason Rice is going to struggle to get back to respectability: NIL and an inability to get portal or JUCO kids into school. That and selling kids on several cross country road trips every year going forward is certainly not going to help them.

April 4, 20241 yr As someone who once tried to make an entire room of college students go without their phones for an hour 3x a week, I feel qualified to say that this will not go well for him.

April 4, 20241 yr NIL money from Marucci...... but you don't get to have your phone in the locker room. I'm not being sarcastic when I say that this is probably a tough decision for some of these dudes. Edited April 4, 20241 yr by NorthLoop

April 14, 20241 yr If anyone is watching this Ole Miss/Mississippi State game, Mike Bianco just had a legendary hot mic moment

Player should have been tossed for his antics on that homer including the bat flip and celebration. Related but kinda unrelated, I have a feeling the next rule change coming is not allowing players to leave the dugout to celebrate homers. The entire damn dugout is coming out on the field nowadays and it’s just asking for trouble.

April 23, 20241 yr College baseball, where you can lose two 1 run games to Arkansas on the road and then get waxed 17-3 by New Mexico in your own park. Been a crazy year all around I feel like, seems like there has been an uptick in upsets this year
April 29, 20241 yr After getting the leadoff runner on in each of the previous 3 innings, the Washington Huskies finally drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 13th to to beat Pac 2 leading Arizona 9-8. It was getaway day so the game was going to end with the second tie of the season if the Huskies were unable to accomplish this. Washington takes the series 2-1. Washington improves to 16-20-1. Gotta help that Texas RPI anyways we can.
April 30, 20241 yr Good find BGS ! Very sad ! Wes Johnson, former LSU pitching coach, is in his first year as head coach and looking at the staff seems to be the pitching coach. Coaches have to be aware, especially the bullpen coach. Georgia has a 5.45 era, 31-12, 10-11 SEC. Below is the Georgia SEC Rant comments on the subject. https://www.secrant.com/rant/uga-sports/uga-baseball-season-long-thread-31-12-10-11/112388998/page-21/
May 1, 20241 yr I'll keep everyone updated on what all 74 UGA baseball fans think of the cheating pitcher scandal.

Schlossnagle made a comment this week that the SEC is discussing having the umpires check pitchers between innings/when they enter from the bullpen like in the MLB. He didn't sound sure if it was something they could put in place this year or starting next year.

When I was there, UH had something like 4000 season ticketholders, which count every night, but about 500 people would show up for each game. I'd really like to see a graph of a butts-in-seats attendance measure.

I really think they have made a deal with the ticket brokers like Seat Geek which may have bought alot of the season tickets. Check the prices for the Friday OKSt game. Seat Geek is trying to unload. (just my guess) and ready for a new coach. https://seatgeek.com/texas-longhorns-baseball-tickets/ncaa-baseball/2024-05-03-6-30-pm/6275540

Official Baseball Rule 5.09(b)(12) states that should a runner, in scoring, fail to touch home plate and continue on the way to the bench (making no effort to return), the runner may be put out by the fielder touching home plate and appealing to the umpire for a decision.
