Just for context that was apparently written in 2013. Weird that you bumped this thread. Some of you might remember that Mrs. JW was Anna Gunn's stand in and body double for all of season 4 and for the last episode at the end of season 6/5b. Anyway, we had a bit of a reunion on Thursday last week. The guy who was Brian Cranston's stand in for seasons 2 & 3 (maybe season 1, we're not sure), and the script supervisor for the whole series and for BCS were here for dinner and to hang out. It was pretty cool. I'm going to edit in Mrs. JW's commemorative Season 4 coin thingy from my phone in a minute. One of many wrap gifts she received at the end of that season. June 20, 20241 yr AMC promo pic from 2007 before Mad Men debuted in July 2007 and Breaking Bad debuted in January 2008. little did either one know their lives (and TV) would change forever when they took this. Edited June 20, 20241 yr by Jive Turkey

So what does a stand in do, or why are they there? Is a body double different ? Are these like stuntmen?

The stand ins help the director of photography set up each scene for camera angles and lighting so the actor doesn’t have to do that. It helps keep the actor’s makeup and what not fresh among other things (I guess). Body double does the scene when the actor’s face isn’t necessary for the shot. The scene from above at the four corners is Mrs Jw. The coin flip is her hand doing it.

Lots of assistant directors running around with light meters to check the lighting levels. They need to work out the blocking for actors, and how the shot is going to look and be lit, so they need people with the same height and build as the actors to stand in and to do all the set up.

So I suspect Anna Gunn didn't even go to Four Corners - just close shots of her face that could have been done anywhere.

June 20, 20241 yr You are correct sir. This is awesome. Did they have a state they wanted it to land on and how many tosses did it take for the right landing?
June 20, 20241 yr They wanted it to land in Colorado and it took 10 - 12 takes. She thinks. It's been a while. She remembers that it was very frustrating. Each take took a bunch of time to reset everything. Plus 50 or so people (crew) standing around watching so added pressure for a perfectly vertical coin flip with the correct height.
January 20Jan 20 guys, guys, guess what! my mate - who has never seen a single episode - has finally agreed to watch! excited! my last/only rewatch was about four years ago so i'm good with it and it will be fun watching it with someone for whom it is brand new... only thing better is watching it for the first time myself lol
January 27Jan 27 so we are 2 eps into S2 (Hank just dusted Tuco)... he's completely hooked lol. he thinks Skylar is a meddling bitch, Jesse is a dumbass...but not nearly as dumb as he came across initially, and Marie is the craziest one of all 😆 him, end of every episode haha and im like he's already asking questions about BCS and where it fits in, he didn't watch that either but he likes Odenkirk and knows the character just from me watching. i will be more than happy to rewatch it as well 😁
July 15Jul 15 Jessie's friends were top tier comedy on this show. There were so many hilarious interactions between them that I didn't quite appreciate on my first watch through. When Jessie gets his new house and is showing his friends where he's going to put everything, Combo says something like "Yeah! Girls cream up real nice for like, candles and shit." It's so weird and funny how someone like that thinks.

Seinfeld did a whole episode on this very thing. The one with the midge...err little person (I'm no Dave Aranda)...the episode with the 'lifts'?! You may be too young to remember Seinfeld. Kramer is the standi-n for the lead guy on All My Children.

And my fucking elbow that started hurting today for no reason. But I didn’t line sienfeld. Big xfiles though to stay slightly on topic. I always think it’s crazy the shows he’s hit on.
