I'm not a truck nut per se.  I'm certainly not a gear head.  And, I'm not at all impulsive.  But, I saw this truck on the side of the road two weeks ago, test drove it the next day, took it to my budd

One year without a truck was too long.  I’m back. And figured, fuck it. I can’t take it with me so might as well enjoy it.

It doesn’t look to be a bubble like the Blazer. It has potential.

Mirrors on the A pillar and center brake light on the tire carrier say removable doors and roof.

Yeah, looks way too modern-Jeepy to inspire much hope...

I agree, 2.0 v 2.5's is pure overkill, but my whole truck is overkill

I ordered the weathertech backseat under storage today. thinking hard about escort 360max. dps / deputies were out hard today between downton hou and port arthur

There is overkill and then there is just pissing away money. Unless you plan on running off road, it’s a complete waste. The 2.0’s are overkill for highway use much less 2.5’s. I’m at the interval now where my 2.0’s are supposed to be rebuilt, so I’ve got to take it in, have them pulled and sent off to be rebuilt, and the truck will have to sit for several days. I had planned on trading it before I hit this point like I normally do, but I just haven’t been interested in trading this one on anything.

How many miles on the dampers?

I’ve got about 55k on my Icon 2.5s, but I’m on an FJ which is a bit lighter. They’re still doing well.
Would 2.5’s last longer v 2.0’s ?

Yes. Larger damper, larger piston rod (and MUCH better steel quality), larger oil volume.

I’m at 60k. I’m pretty sure the 2.0’s and 2.5’s both have recommended rebuilds at 50k miles for hwy use.

Been looking at F250’s again tonight. Think I may have to go take a look at one with the Tremor package when they hit lots before I decide whether to keep the F150 or not. The white platinum has piqued my interest again.

A few of those padlocked into the hitches of a few bro-dozers would be a solid teenage prank.

I’m rescinding my recommendation of Fox shocks. As I mentioned earlier, mine are due for a rebuild because all Fox shocks have to be rebuilt at service intervals and the rears are soft from towing. Apparently, no one in my area rebuilds them and Fox says they have a 2-3 week turn around on rebuilds which means the truck can sit on blocks in the parking lot of my tire guy for a month while the shocks get rebuilt. I called the large Ford dealer in the area and their service department just replaces them on Raptors rather than deal with it. The local off-road shop says it’s the only shock they will not rebuild because Fox is a pain to get rebuild kits from and it’s not worth the trouble.

It’s ludicrous, my guy even told them to just schedule the rebuild date and he would pull them and Fed Ex them overnight and then it could sit on a spare lift for 3 days while they rebuilt them and sent them back. Fox will not schedule it and does them based on when they come in. The Fox rep is the one that told him he could just pull the wheels and leave it sitting on blocks in the parking lot while they had them. He still has my original front coil overs he could put back while they had it, but the tires will not fit. Simpler just to spend $1500 or so on a new set.

So are you just going to buy new shocks?  I don’t suppose you kept the stock jobs for such an occasion.

He kept them stored, but he doesn’t think the original fronts will work because of the tire size now. I may stick with the original thought of trading like I usually do at this time, but if not then I’ll at least have to get new rears. The fronts aren’t having any issues yet.

Dealer is bringing in an F250 Tremor edition to look at and he said he’ll hopefully find out next week at the dealer’s meeting what the schedule for 2021 F150 deliveries is.

That's probably their strategy.

I'd bang on them on social media and see if they are willing to change their tune.  I'm really not one to do that kind of thing, but their position on this is absolutely ludicrous and they deserve to be called out publicly for it.

I wonder if it’s just the 2.0s. The 2.5s from all the high end brands use pretty much standard hardware and soft parts. The piston, rod, and maybe the shock body/shim stacks themselves are proprietary, but the serviceable parts are all pretty much standard otherwise (o rings, fittings, spherical joints, shock oil, etc).

The 2.0’s and 2.5’s are similar structures. I called around this afternoon and no one will touch them including the 3 local 4WD shops. One of them would recharge them, but not do a rebuild. I found a race shop a couple hours away that deals with FOX shocks that will do it if I take the truck to them. The kits are simple it looks like if you have the Fox tools and know what you are doing, but apparently no one wants to mess with them.

Give 2.5’a or give me death !!!!!

Au contraire, a truck suspension works harder when it is off-road.

Car dampers only have to really worry about smaller changes in road smoothness.

Gimme something like this that can have three dampening curves based on wheel travel speed and distance.

Not sure we're disagreeing.  Magneride makes subtle valving/viscosity adjustments using magnetorheological oil that I would guess are easily overwhelmed by the distances a truck wheel has to travel and the pressures applied to a truck shock, both on and off road.

I would tend to agree that an external-bypass system like that would be far more appropriate for a truck than magneride.  Just like it would be near-useless on a passenger car, where magneride excels.

Magneride on a truck seems like trying to kill a rhino with a .22.  But that's just based on what i know about how they operate as opposed to what happens in the real world.

I really like this back seat under storage. big enough for my hard hat, boots, and since it had so much space, gave me a reason to buy some tools. I'm going to better secure it with zip ties (ill have to drill some holes) but it's big enough to hold a full size jack ( i think)

added a klein screw driver and box cutter to this tool roll

bought a couple of these to hold d rings, S hooks, straps and smaller tie downs

bought this for the pick up bed, $10 on amazon. works great for as little as it'll be used. held in place with D rings.

on to the good stuff. im about ready to pull the trigger on AMP Research PowerStep Xtreme Running Boards. $300 more then the normal Amp PowerSteps, but I'm all about the Extreme lifestyle. $1800 / $300 install

overall, im loving this truck.

Why doesn’t the f150 have the factory collapsible under seat storage that the SD has?  Seems like something that would be appreciated on all trucks.

Picked up a 2018 NV Passenger this weekend for a family/road trip/camping vehicle. Built on a 3500 frame with 375 horsepower and 8700 pound towing capacity. Can fit a full sized mattress in the back and still have plenty of seating for the family. This thing is a beast.

That's a great idea.  Should definitely at least be an option on F150s (or any other pickup).

Another thing I like that I'm surprised still hasn't made it into the Ford, is the built-in step integrated into either side of the rear bumper, that GM has.  Or at least I think it hasn't, I haven't looked at any new trucks in a while.

I am guessing there is something proprietary to that step otherwise it would be on all trucks.

Did you run out and fold it?

I did not. Not yet. Got too much stuff in there right now.

i was going to get one last month and went to one place. it was full of idiots and never shopped around. I'm up and down i10 and 59/77, weekly.

I figure you travel 73 quite a bit going to and from Port Arthur and such.  Be careful.  Cops have been crazy thick my last few trips.

I was merging onto 10 from 73, passing two trucks to get in front of them. Dps was in front of the second truck, saw him too late
