Can't speak for Toyota, but for Ford, the max payload and absolute highest tow rating, usually seem to be on 2WD longbed standard cab configurations. Any deviation from one of those features, will typically diminish the payload and/or the max towing capacity. My F150 4WD with max-towing package, supercrew and shortbed, takes a hit on towing capacity, down from a high end of 12,500 for the ideal configuration, to the 11,500 lbs that my configuration is rated at. I don't recall the exact numbers on the impact to payload capacity, but the 4WD diminished it, which makes sense, it's added weight to the vehicle, without improviing the structural strength of the vehicle. As far as payload though, you don't have to have 10% of the trailer weight on the tongue. That's the standard rule of thumb in the USA, but it's common in Europe and other countries around the world to have significantly less than that-- like, half. You can alter your tongue weight by loading in your gear at the back of the trailer, behind the axle(s), which will help reduce tongue weight and reduce the impact to your vehicle's payload limits. As always, when towing large and/or high profile loads like RVs, I advise using a high-quality weight-distributing hitch with anti-sway control. Edit: I'll note that the above values are just approximate from memory, I don't recall the exact numbers, but it's something along those lines. Edited September 21, 20214 yr by utee94
September 23, 20214 yr Hmm, geico just called and they want to send it to a shop. Initial spot estimate is repairable. I told them send it to dealership it was bought at
September 23, 20214 yr Lulz. That is a total. Did airbags deploy? That looks about as bad as my wreck in 2013. State Farm didn’t even for a second consider fixing it.
September 23, 20214 yr LuLz geico spot estimste is $7000 to repair. I’m pretty sure the hood and grill are about $4000 Edited September 23, 20214 yr by tx 3 putt
September 23, 20214 yr They are on drugs. Like "it will buff out" type drugs. The good shit. @tx 3 putt
September 23, 20214 yr I would say total, but have to remember that truck is probably a 60k truck in current prices. I’m sure that jacks with the math.

September 23, 20214 yr Following because I have GEICO coverage as well. I'm no expert, but that looks like structural damage and a total to me.

September 23, 20214 yr I had a fender bender in my e63 amg and geico thought it was $1500 in damage. Ended up being $7000.
September 23, 20214 yr it'll soon be on the way to Planet Ford on 45. I bought it there and my info is in their system. We'll see what they say.
September 23, 20214 yr Guess it hit too high for the airbags to deploy, because that looks like the airbags should have popped. I’m guessing that’s a total, shit’s expensive right now and there is a whole lot of stuff located in that area that will need replacing.
September 23, 20214 yr I guess mine was a little worse off. Airbags deployed, flipped it on its side on MOPAC and spun around. Also passenger rear wheel got yanked off somehow. But the front end doesn’t look all that much worse than 3putt’s. I still say it’s a total and they are smoking crack.
September 23, 20214 yr Fuck that Pat. That shits totaled. Frame work alone… damn. Didn’t have a bruise on me. Between that and Toyota engines never dying, they got my loyalty.
September 24, 20214 yr Here you go. Discount measured them at 8/32, making just north of 50% tread (15.6/32 new). I agree, they don’t photograph well. I took them off and cleaned up the wheel weight adhesive last night, heavy wide ass fucking tires. One really opened up this AM on way over there, glad I took it in this AM. I’d probably went back with them again if it wasn’t 3 of the 4 tires doing this. Don’t know wtf but glad it didn’t blow out with wife and kids in the car. Went with some Michelin’s. First time with them, Surly folks seem to like them, hope it improves the ride. If not I’ll be off to Craigslist to make a trade for some stock 20’s. September 24, 20214 yr That quote reminds of when I bought my central Austin house in '14 and State Farm told me their insurance would cover $55/sq ft because that was the going rate for replacement cost of the house.

September 29, 20214 yr Anyone have a legit reason why I shouldn’t buy a 2017 Titan with 35k miles?Resale sucks on them I think so only if you’re going to hold on to it for a long time Gas mileage sucks tooThey’re kinda ugly They don’t tow a lot Get it cheap.
September 29, 20214 yr I’m really digging these. I’ll never need to tow anything over 9k or 10k (even then not more than 2-3 miles). If this thing gets anywhere near 25mpg combined I’d be a buyer probably.

It won’t be a daily driver but more like a road trip, camping, and Home Depot truck so hoping to keep it for at least a decade. - slight concern but again if it’s not a daily driver not the end of the world. - don’t give a shit what my cars look like. Tows enough for me. Yea it’s cheap(er). But why? That sort of brings me back to my original question. Why are they several thousand cheaper than comparable Ford/Chevy/Toyota?

September 29, 20214 yr Titans still come with a 5/100k factory warranty to lure customers, plus being cheaper.

September 29, 20214 yr 2017 was the first year model of the Titan redesign, don't know if the gasser had any major issues or not. If it's a Titan XD with the 5.0 Cummins diesel then run for the hills. They had major issues and Nissan doesn't offer or even support that engine anymore.
September 29, 20214 yr My take on the Titan is that the competitors typically offered more features, a little better performance, etc., but that doesn't mean the Titan is a bad truck. The V-8 is seen as generally reliable, but not as reliable as, say, the Tundra. Watch for timing chain issues and catalytic converter failure/wear. Might want to have a mechanic check it out. If it checks out okay and the price is right . . .

September 29, 20214 yr That reminds me, when I was leaving the spot at lake Georgetown a couple weekends ago, the camper in front I’m me in line at the dump station was being pulled by an Armada. This was probably a 30 or so footer and the armada just had to be at the bump stops on the back suspension. And I assume it has IRS because the negative camber being created was intense.
September 30, 20214 yr Can't speak to the suspension, but the 5.6L Nissan motor is strong. More powerful than Toyota's 5.7.
