July 10Jul 10 With Masa back, it seems a Duran trade is inevitable. Maybe Masa kills it for a couple weeks to pump up his trade value, but I don't see anybody taking that contract.
July 10Jul 10 6 straight and 8 of 9 - look who's trying to play some baseball finally?! First back-to-back series sweeps since 2022. 😲 Let's see how they look after 4 vs the Rays. 5 hours ago, PatrickMcHorn said: With Masa back, it seems a Duran trade is inevitable. I hope not. He's frustrating at times, but also electric. Would love for it to all come together for him while he's still playing for Boston.
July 11Jul 11 Quote It looks as if Alex Bregman will return to the Red Sox tomorrow. While the team has yet to announce the move, Chris Cotillo of MassLive reports that the Sox are optioning second baseman David Hamilton to Triple-A Worcester. That’d open the necessary active roster spot to reinstate Bregman from the 10-day injured list. Boston’s star third baseman has been out since May 24 due to a significant quad strain. The Sox promoted Marcelo Mayer when Bregman went on the shelf. The 22-year-old has been the primary third baseman. He has a modest .272 on-base percentage through his first 37 big league contests. Optioning Hamilton suggests the Sox intend to give Mayer more runway, likely moving him to second base in the process.
July 13Jul 13 10 Just bought tickets to see the dodgers. Taking my kid. I will be rocking the longhorn softtball shirt. we have never seen a game together in Fenway. Will be a badass birthday. Got tickets at the Pole. 10.
July 13Jul 13 Sat maybe 6-8 rows up behind the pole last time I was at Fenway, and Pedey sliced one in there nicely for us. The last time the Sox won 10 straight, and 3 straight sweeps, was 2018:
July 14Jul 14 I won't pretend to know a ton about the MLB draft, but loading up on large pitchers who played in college seems like a solid strategy.

July 14Jul 14 Oh, and we are not selling. Get another pitcher and let the kids go. Just stay healthy.
July 14Jul 14 We took our boys to the game yesterday. I enjoyed how the Red Sox let the kids run the bases after Sunday games more than the Astros because they let the parents go down on the field too. Kids posed for homerun robbing catches next to the RF foul pole.

July 22Jul 22 The saturday game is on Fox. I will be there and so will two other Surly's confirmed. @Brisketexan and @Sbbruin I am right behind the Pole. (Not on it....)

July 24Jul 24 Author 6 ERs on 2 hits is quite the inning, especially after the inning should have been over with the missed pop up to the catcher (timestamped). Could have been better, but glad the Sox didn't get swept in Chicago or Philly. Edited July 24Jul 24 by MuellerHorn
July 24Jul 24 Yesterday's game is one of those ones where you mark and wonder if that is an inflection point. Yes, that 5th inning was somewhat gifted, but the fight to come back and score in the 11th and 12th was something we haven't really seen this season.
July 25Jul 25 Quote The Red Sox announced today that infielder Marcelo Mayer has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 24th, with a right wrist sprain. Infielder David Hamilton has been recalled as the corresponding move. At this point, the severity of Mayer’s sprain is still being determined. “We’re gathering information,” Álex Cora responded when asked if surgery was a consideration, per Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. “We’ll get more over the weekend, during the week. Whenever we get to the point to see what’s going to happen, we’ll let you know.” Time will tell if Mayer is facing a brief absence or an extended one. While the Sox surely don’t want Mayer to miss any time, there is a silver lining of his absence, as it seems it will help out a bit with their outfield logjam. Cora told reporters, including Chris Cotillo of MassLive, that the club will frequently have Ceddanne Rafaela at second base. That will lead to a regular outfield alignment of Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu, with Masataka Yoshida as the designated hitter.
July 28Jul 28 Author Y'all boys were good luck. I don't care if it was a home series. 2 of 3 against the Dodgers is great!

It was nice to see, but better that we won since I was surrounded by some very cool Dodger fans.

Honestly, to come out 6-5 vs the NL division leaders is really solid, especially considering it could have been 7-4. I do hate being in this "almost good" spot though. Young af team battling it's ass off but still making tons of mental errors and no real chance of postseason success, and no way they're going to be buyers. Just hope they don't sell too much and cut the legs out of the rest of the season.

The redeeming qualities are the "young af team" part and how much the starting pitching has improved. I hate to waste Chapman, as he's 37 and having a great year, but maybe that continues next season. They're going to have to buy/spend in the off season to take advantage of the current roster, though. Edited July 28Jul 28 by MuellerHorn
July 28Jul 28 Leave the offense and defense alone. It will mature. That is why you have Bregman/Story. Let them be captains. Spend on Pitching. Don't trade away talent. Spend. Oh and watching the protest was fun. It was weird no one selling in the stands.

At his age and previous production, the one-year deal made sense. Although, he currently has his fourth-highest WAR (2.2) of his career, but it's his highest since 2016. Total wildcard whether or not they try to keep him. Edit: also, crazy enough, his current SO/BB (5.55) ratio is the best it has ever been. Edited July 28Jul 28 by MuellerHorn
July 31Jul 31 It's hard to know what to think post trade deadline. I was fine with more or less standing pat, but when everyone ahead and right behind us seemed to add considerably more in positions if need, my feelings are more more mixed. The pirates really seemed to fuck up the market, and I'm glad we didn't sell the farm for 2025.

They routinely seek substandard returns just to keep their payroll down. The owner doesn’t care one bit about winning. It’s blatant profit maximization over competitiveness. Just wants to kept costs as low as possible to enrich himself. Nutting should be forced to sell. Great fans, great stadium, and they consistently get nothing. 9 hours ago, InkaUtexas said: We kept Duran. We kept Bregman. I am cool. Now win this shit. This.
