He's not the best hitter in the game. He's not the best pitcher in the game. He doesn't play in the outfield.

But he's really freaking good and fun to watch.

Fuck right off

Yeah that’s ridiculous.  Plenty?  LOL

Maybe prime juiced Bonds.  And that’s only if you don’t take Ohtani pitching in to consideration.  WAR with both is just asinine.

To me the conversation is basically Bonds, Ruth and that’s prolly it. Hank, Willie a few others have some longevity arguments but no one else has ever been like this.

I swear this generation doesn't deserve a player like Ohtani. Fucking internet rejects watch a game like yesterday and try to downplay it.

So, now, let’s break down the Ohtani game:

First, he went 6-for-6. That has happened just 75 times in baseball history—10 times in the last 10 years.

Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon vs. Diamondbacks, 2014

California’s C.J. Cron at Boston, 2016

The Mets’ Wilmer Flores vs. the Cubs, 2016

Washington’s Anthony Rendon vs. the Mets, 2017

Houston’s George Springer at Oakland, 2018

Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich at Cincinnati, 2018

Cincinnati’s Phil Ervin at Colorado, 2019

Boston’s Rafael Devers at Cleveland, 2019

Washington’s Luis Garcia Jr. at Kansas City, 2023

Shohei at Miami, 2024

It’s interesting—but certainly not meaningful—that the last six times a player has had six hits in a game, they did it on the road.

OK, so just going 6-for-6 in a game is absurd and super-rare. There are many, many fewer 6-for-6 games in baseball history (75) than no-hitters (326).

Now, let’s add a few things. Shohei Ohtani had 17 total bases. That has happened just seven times in baseball history. The other six all involved players who hit four homers in a game.

19: Los Angeles’ Shawn Green, 2002 (4 homers, single, double)

18: Texas’ Josh Hamilton, 2012 (4 homers, double)

18: Milwaukee’s Joe Adcock, 1954 (4 homers, double)

17: Brooklyn’s Gil Hodges, 1950 (4 homers, single)

17: Philadelphia’s Mike Schmidt, 1976 (4 homers, single)

17: Cincinnati’s Scooter Gennett, 2017 (4 homers, single)

17: Shohei, 2024 (3 homers, two doubles, single)

OK, so that’s even more rare. Next: How many players have hit three home runs and stolen a base in the same game? That would be 20—a wonderful list that includes Shohei, Barry Bonds, Eric Davis (he did it twice!), Barry Larkin, Willie Stargell, Joe Carter, Paul Goldschmidt and, obviously, Joey Votto (!).

Now, how many of them hit three home runs and stole two bases in the same game?

Um:

Shohei Ohtani, Sept. 19, 2024: 3 home runs, 2 stolen bases.

Question. So when this dude tries to sell it for millions, how can he prove that ball is legit? What's to keep anyone dude from selling a baseball and claiming that is the ball?

I imagine you can get some sort of authentication from MLB/Experts. It’s all on video. They can see who caught it.

Plus, they usually put special balls in play (that’s what she said) when a significant milestone is about to be achieved. I assume that happened yesterday.

yes that happened yesterday.  they interviewed him and he said he was glad it was over and gave an example of having to put the special balls in play every time he came up.

but seriously. I feel like an idiot but what am I missing? (Assuming he wasn’t in the sportsbook)

but “set an example” blah blah whatever.

it’s a pretty terrible example to set to let your only all star just totally check out on the season and his teammates like it’s no biggie. that’s what losing organizations do. huge chump move on his part.

And he’s been fucking AWFUL in the 2nd half. Pretty fucking sure this wasn’t strike one.

He should have been sent down for his blistering .586 OPS this half.

Ohtani homer and stolen base today.  4 for 5.

Homered in the bottom of 9 to tie it, Betts followed with one to win it.

Huge.  What a big win.

2024 will be remembered as one of the greatest seasons of all time. Judge, Soto, Ohtani, Witt, Jasson Dominguez. Unreal

You were so close to an interesting, defensible post until you gave into your schtick for rage engagement.

The best part of it is we should see all of those guys in the playoffs if KC can hang on. I’m glad Ohtani is the anti-Trout and actually wanted the spotlight and the pressure of playing in October.

Helobius has set this up nicely.

If the Yankees don't win it all, it's one of the greatest disappointments of all time.

I can't imagine how bad it will be if they don't even win the AL pennant.

It’ll be awesome watching you guys get bounced in the wild card round while we rest up at home.

If astros get knocked out in wild card so what. They will always be the Yankees post season daddy.

27 titles to 1 (legit) title. You tell me whose postseason daddy.

Padres-Dodgers starting tonight.  Title on the line.

How many post season series have you won against the Astros?

Also Braves-Mets. Wild card spot on the line.

Legit titles? How many yankees were juiced in the 90's and 2000's. How many were taking greenies (amphetamine) pre 1980's? Don't try the whole yankees are pure and never did anything wrong bs .

My statement was the Astros own the Yankees in the post season.

Horseshit from a dumpster franchise

Pads up 4-1 in the bottom of 9, but Suarez is pitching, so pads are fucked.

and of course he gives up a hit.
