It’s funny that I’ve spent more time reading this thread than I did attempting to watch the show.

Do new show half naked

Given the extensive makeup in the Acolyte, they could just bring her back as another character on another show.

The fans want Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie back.

Bullshit. The BEST thing Disney has done with Star Wars was Andor, by far, and there's not a lightsaber or OG character to be seen. We're 100% behind new stories THAT DO NOT SUCK ASS. I personally am behind every gender and sexual expression there is, IF THE STORY DOESN'T SUCK ASS. I can even handle mostly bad writing. Gestures wildly in the general direction of "El Goonish Shive"

Get someone with a writing talent above a third grader, why don'tcha. Is finding good writing talent hard? No. FUCK no. But you aren't going to find them if you're hiring based on... whatever process was behind hiring the Acolyte's writer.

I sincerely hope there is a behind the scenes book written about this show. $180 million dollars, $550,000 per minute. It feels like Disney was grafted. Headland used all of her own people, including her spouse, to make one of the most expensive shows in the history of television. Perhaps, she used Disney as a cash grab and didn’t care about quality. The giddy interviews leading up to the release felt like somebody getting one over on the studio. It could explain Disney’s pettiness. I don’t think an audit would go well here.

If you don’t think this sort of thing happens in the entertainment business, go read up on Sheridan, Yellowstone, and Paramount.

Or Sony.

Serious question - unless you’re a Disney shareholder, why do you care so much? The show is over. Move on. You seem to want to get your outrage jollies over the autopsy of this show that seemingly no one liked but has more discourse than any other Disney show or movie the last couple years.

let it go GIF

I'm still mad tho

Go look at the ratings and viewer numbers for Mandalorian season 2 with that one episode with CGI Luke and then look up the numbers for Andor. Andor and Skeleton Crew barely got viewers. The only reason Andor got a season 2 is because the show was finite. The budget costs as much as a movie. I love it. I'm glad it's here. There will be nothing like it going forward. We've probably seen the end of Star Wars shows on Disney+ after Ahsoka season 2 is done.

But seriously: Drawing a direct connection between viewership numbers and "what the people want" is the same kind of lazy thinking that got us, say, Episode 9. Andor's low viewership had more to do with Disney having delivered a lot of very disappointing Star Wars shows in a row than people not wanting more of that. At the time it aired, people were fed up with Disney's Star Wars, and weren't going to give Andor a shot no matter how good the reviews were. You see the same thing with Solo -- was it a great movie? No, but it was a very good movie, set up some interesting story lines, but was killed by people boycotting Star Wars after Episode 8. (See below.)

And Solo is a great comparison, because now that time has passed, a lot of people who are otherwise bored are suddenly watching it for the first time, and saying, "Hey... this movie was a lot of fun! Why did everyone hate it so much?" Well, they didn't hate it -- those who actually bothered to watch the damn movie.

Nearly all of the hate was from people who didn't, and never were, going to see it. Now that time has passed, people are watching it again and saying, "Hey, why don't we get more things like this?" Well, the answer is because you didn't go watch the good things.

I mean, the same thing happened with Rogue One, too. In retrospect, a decent portion of the fan base considers it the best Star Wars movie period, and almost no one considers it anything less than very, very good. Is it as good without Vader vamping it up for a half minute and going hack and slash for another minute? Naw, but he ain't the focus of the show.

If you just go by how many people watched it, you miss how much they enjoyed it.

I mean... by that logic, we should have more things like Episode 9. 60 million tickets were sold to that:

And then there's Episode VII. Do all those ticket sales reflect that people want more remakes of Star Wars, just with a different cast? FUCK no, man!

In short: You can't just draw a direct relationship between how many people watched a thing and "This is what they want."

Anyway.
