Crazy to see Texas ranked way down at #74 overall.

https://247sports.com/Season/2025-Basketball/CompositeTeamRankings/

Aggies are #34, for reference.

Thank you, John for being our only 2025 commit.  You might get some early playing time.

If anything, this is the thing that will bury RT. He won't have players unless they're Portal.

Seth Davis gets it.

I forgot tweets don't post anymore but here's what Seth Davis tweeted.

"This loss drops Texas to 7-11 vs Quad 1. UNC is 1-11. I don't understand why anyone would have the Heels ahead of the Longhorns no matter what happens vs Duke. Also Xavier is 2-9 v Q1, Indiana is 4-13, SDSU is 3-6. I think the Horns are in."

Q1 wins is not the end all, be all. We are under 500 in conf play and a horrible NCSOS. Zero non-conf wins of note

And not just under .500, we are 6-12. It’s not like 8-10, our conf winning % is .333

We spent YEARS mocking SEC bias in postseason bids and now we demand to be included bc we are 6-12 in conf play, but in the SEC now

The committee has emphasized many times they don't prioritize conference record due to unbalanced schedules and disparities in strength of conferences.

It's why a 6-18 aggy softball team made the postseason in '22.

And that team should not have gotten a bit. Neither should we at this point - maybe if we beat UConn or scheduled a little tougher in non-conf play, but we did the exact thing we make fun of teams for doing, stacking wins against cupcakes and then being under .500 in conf play

Yeah, but that's why we should get in.

The committee has never prioritized conference record. Now we should be punished for it? I won't be mad if we get left out because if you're on the bubble that's your fault but reality is our resume is clearly good enough to get in based on the objective data the committee says they prioritize.

Ah, Royal Ivey's new assistant when he's hired as our new head coach!

This is why we will likely get in or should get in based on the metrics the committee prioritizes. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2025/3/10/media-center-debunking-ncaa-tournament-myths.aspx

1) Myth No. 3: Winning 20 games guarantees a tournament spot
Reality: There is no magic number of wins that automatically secures an NCAA tournament bid. The committees evaluate the quality of a team's wins and losses rather than focusing solely on win totals. A team with 20 or more wins but a weak schedule or few Quadrant 1 victories may still be left out, while a team with fewer wins but a strong resume of quality victories could earn an at-large bid.

Myth No. 10: A winning conference record ensures a bid
Reality: Having a winning record in conference play does not automatically result in a tournament bid. The committees look at each team's complete body of work in their evaluations. A team with a 10-8 record in a weak conference may be left out, while a team with an 8-10 record with significant Quadrant 1 wins could still make the cut.

It's really clear they prioritize Quad 1 wins. At least that's what they promote.

Just saw that. What changed after the aggy win for us to move down in his eyes? Texas and unc lost yesterday and both dropped. I figured we would need one more win to make us a lock and not just the aggy win. Either way we fucked ourselves during conference play.

Also of note, no team in the NET era with at least 7 Quad one wins has ever missed the tournament.

We would be the first team in the NET era to miss the tournament with at least 7 quad one wins.

We have 15 losses.

We should miss the tournament.

Sounds like good drama for the Entertainment folks.

Should I do the checking or do you want to?

Who here is demanding to be included? I dont think anyone here cares all that much. Should we be in, yes. Will we be in, probably. Will I care if we arent in? No

Alabama lost 11 games last year and was a 4 seed

I'm lazy. You do it.

I can't imagine it's a long list, but maybe!

My bad .. that 15 includes the tourney loss. They lost 14 prior.

Just now, Slacks said:

Yup, teams with a bunch of losses make the tournament every year.

Do you want a 11 loss Xavier or 13 loss North Carolina team to make it over us simply because they played in a much easier conference and beat absolutely nobody all year.

ESPN has us safely in the tourney and ranked ahead of:

Arkansas

Vandy

Georgia

In that order. They seem to think we are in. I dont agree, but I dont call the shots.

Looks like 19-14 West Virginia was a 9 seed in 2023

So for at least the last 2 tournaments a team with 14 losses was a 9 seed

Those teams notwithstanding, do you honestly believe this Texas team deserves a bid?

yes, our resume is better than the teams on the bubble based on the metrics the committee says they prioritize.

The bubble sucks. Do you think these teams are final 4 type teams? UNC is 1-12 against Q1 teams but you would rather them make the tournament with their 13 losses?

1 minute ago, David Dennison said:

It doesnt matter if we do or dont. When you get down to the last few teams, none of them deserve a bid lol. Just let the chips fall where they may. We have Tre Johnson, an NBA caliber talent and they will want to showcase him on national TV for a play in game. We will get in. Book it.

Auto bid. Would they have made the tournament otherwise?

True. I just want to know with 100% certainty that we're getting a new coach.

The tournament leaves that door open.

We won more quad 1 games this week than UNC and Xavier won all year but people want those teams in over Texas.

It's actually laughable.

I just want a new coach. Both of those teams are pretty, pretty, pretty meh.

At least we have Tre Johnson, so a Sweet Sixteen run isn't out of the realm of possibility.

And that means Rodney Terry is back.

I want a new coach too but I'll never be one to argue against us making the tournament especially in this context.

Xavier and UNC have beaten absolutely nobody all year. It's insane anybody thinks they should get in over us.

Sweet 16 and he doesnt keep his job. I am not even sure an elite 8 run would allow him to keep it.

There isn't going to be a sweet 16 run

Sweet 16 isn't happening because if we do make the tournament we're almost certainly going to have to play a first 4 game.

So 3 games in a short amount of time assuming we even advance that far.

When is the last time Texas played their best ball for 3 straight games? Not once this season. lol

Getting back to this, Q1 wins aren't "the end all" but definitely the most important factor in selection. At least in past years.

When aggy missed the tournament in '22 the reasoning given by the NCAA selection chair was the 4-10 Q1 record for aggy. Specifically, they didn't win enough Q1 games.

They were the 1st team out that year.

Sweet 16? Lmao. RT sucks and he didn’t build a sweet 16 roster. We don’t have the team to make it that far. At some point our shitty offensive identity of one on one bullshit will assist us to a loss. If we even get in and I don’t think we will, I’ll be surprised if we win 1 game much less the 3 it will take to make the S16.

Very unlikely it happens but weird shit happens in the tournament. Which is why you always want to make it.

We would play a mediocre team in the first 4, then a 4 or 5 seed in the round of 64, then pray for an upset so we get an easy opponent in the round of 32. 1 first round upset and you're potentially only playing one top 30 caliber team in those 3 gmaes.

It’s March Madness - the time of year when teams argue who is really the 40th best team in the country.

Look guys, this is the SEC.  It just means more.  Sorry to the Mickey Mouse club and the periwinkle turd boys, but they don’t deserve it.

There should be no conflict. The only thing he can do to keep his job is take us further in the tournament than we’ve been in decades; which would be fucking awesome and worthy of another year.

When was the last time a coach was fired after leading his team to the Sweet Sixteen? Tubby Smith at Minnesota?

No we don’t. We have no big men. Larry and Kent both suck. Mark and kaluma were great pick ups. Pope is so inconsistent it’s mind blowing. Our coach sucks at preparing and making in game adjustments and he can’t build a roster that makes sense because he doesn’t even have a identity to build around.

Nc state made the final four and gets fired the next year. Let’s stop being pussies about having to keep guys around because of the optics.

This team will be lucky to make the tournament

This team is not winning 3 games to make the sweet 16 (bc we’ll be a play-in team)

Texas being in the play-in should be an auto firing. How embarrassing

Looks like Tubby lost to Florida in the Round of 32 that year.

Does anyone know the answer to this?
