Homeland Security agents raid LA-area home associated with Diddy's film company

To me, a very strange prosecution.  Yes, he did some whacked shit, but seems mostly of a private nature, redressed mostly by civil lawsuits from the aggrieved.

I think one of the key things was "hUmAN TraFFiCkinG!!1!," which has been some kind of political bullshit criminal priority for some years now.  I think the impetus for it is we are trying to exert pressure on other countries to prosecute/regulate/prevent it, so we're trying to "do our part" or "set an example" or some shit.  I dunno.

That they could manufacture a human/sex trafficking case against a prominent individual must have been seen as some kind of coup.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying human/sex trafficking doesn't happen or condoning it.  It just seems that it is harder to investigate and prosecute, especially in some spectacular way.  And it seems US authorities are really stretching to try and make something stick.

Probably a talent drain after Trump took over

This is very definitely happening, but doesn't seem to be happening at US Attorneys offices with as great a regularity as at Main Justice, which is going to be mostly civil division people.

One of the prosecutors was Comey's daughter and there seems to have been little turnover in the team since the indictment.  Also, even if some or most of these line prosecutors want to GTFO, they'd probably wait until finishing this case to do so.

Not advocating for her, but I imagine she's no great Trump fan.

Most federal line prosecutors do it because they love the work.  Due to the historical nature of civil service, I think most of them think they will remain insulated from the politics of DOJ and will probably behave accordingly.  They may be wrong to a greater or lesser extent, but until it actually happens to them, a lot of them are likely staying put.

The smart ones have jumped ship, I would think. Only a matter of time before these "line prosecutors" are forced to do the regime's dirty work.

Lots of "prosecutors overcharged talk" after verdict today.

This case should never have been brought by federal prosecutors.  Diddy is a weird fuck, treats people like shit, and has committed some crimes - however, this was not sex-trafficking or racketeering.  Federal dollars should not be spent on prostitution.

Federal dollars would never be spent on "prostitution." It should be spent on hush money, which we call "legal fees" paid to Michael Cohen.

It seemed like from day 1 that the "freak offs" were just crazy drug and sex parties with kink between consenting adults who wanted to engage in chemsex (for whatever reason; career gain, money, pleasure, relationship status, etc.).

Calling it sex traffiking and kidnapping always felt like it was catering to the TikTok conspiracy theorists and revisionist historians.

Diddy, like most rich and powerful men, seems to be weird, strange, perverted by money and power and sex and drugs (and maybe even sexually confused as suggested by contemporaries like 50 cent and Kat Williams), and definintely a crappy person and domestic abuser. But it didn't seem like he was a sex trafficker or kidnapper, like ever.

Example 1,479 this year that laws only matter to the poor.

To be fair, though, a poor probably isn't getting charged with any of this.  Diddy's high profile was a key component to this prosecution.

100%. And certainly there are no "sex trafficking" charges brought against a poor who simply does drugs with his gf and/or cucks himself with prostitutes and his gf. It's just weird kink and possession of controlled substances and prostitution at best.

I guess the argument could be with poor people (talking about the freak offs and chemsex, not the actual beatings that took place outside of the sexcapades), the girl is more into it. With Diddy, the girls did it to win his approval and either social climb or be in relationship or otehrwise in his sphere of success/money/influence and so that is, of course, abuse.

I regularly see "human trafficking charges" against low level street pimps in LA brought by the DAs office.

I guess if you have a hammer a lot of things that aren't nails start to look like nails so you can justify using the hammer?
