Pretty perfect game to take a three year old to. Was over before he got too bored and got to see a couple homers. Thanks @UTPhil2006 for the suggestion about the first game certificate, had plenty of

Which 2024 transaction do you think stung more for Jacob Amaya:  getting DFA'd by the Astros or being optioned to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp?

So was what happened yesterday before singleton fucked it up.

I never read the details.  Did Neris clear waivers and then we signed him as a fa?  If anyone claimed him off eaivers they would inherit the contract with the vesting option about to kick in, right?

Yes to the first question.

And I believe that’s right for the 2nd.

i haven’t seen the terms of the deal we signed Neris to

Edit:

“The Astros will pay Neris a prorated league minimum for the rest of the season, which will relieve the Cubs of a small portion of the $9 million they owe him for 2024”

Montero: $11,500,000

Neris: $143,208

The Astros had $8.5M on the table for Neris in the offseason.

this is what I had seen prior to us signing him.  Still doesn't make it absolutely clear on the vesting option if someone claimed him, but I would assume it would have still been in play reading between the lines here

Neris signed with the Cubs last winter on a one-year, $9 million contract that included a team option for 2025. That would have turned into a player option if the righty appeared in 60 games in 2024 or finished 45 of them, but that part of his deal disappears now that he has cleared waivers and been released. Neris is now free to sign with any team for the prorated minimum.

OK, so I read that as if he was claimed off waivers that option would stay in effect but once he's outright released that contract is over (other than the Cubs still having to pay the guaranteed money for this year).

Pretty fucked up that you can sign with a team and be on pace to hit your incentives and they release you because they don't want to honor their deal.

yeah right when it happened I was thinking man this sounds like a players association issue they should be handling and that should probably be dealt with

I have a guess that this was agreed upon with Neris.  Allowed him to sign with a team that could go to the playoffs where he can contribute and get another contract later.  No team is under any obligation to give a player innings, even if it's warranted by their play.  I don't think the players union can do anything except bluster about it.

Snakes are low-key doing this with Montgomery.  He already hit the first tier for his player option for $22M next season based on number of starts.  They have moved him to the bullpen now, which means he won't make four more starts and  hit the next tier of his option which would bump salary on the option another $3M.

I dont think its low key...i think it is because he sucks

That whole damn team made some kind of bargain with the devil last year

I missed this weekend's games but saw the high/lowlights.

Holy shit what a fucking play by Dubon!

I still can't believe he held on to that ball and did not die. Absolute baller play and a very, very scary collision. Thank you BBGs for not taking out another Astro for the year. Dubon's defensive versatility is needed on this roster.

Imagine how few he'd walk if facing our ML roster.

flipped over to that game right after Astros ended. saw it was 11-4 and turned it off.

Who are they going to call up on sept 1?

Not Whitley.
probably Salazar and Martinez.

It would be criminally insane with how much you Ph and DH and play at 1B your catchers not to have a new one up when rosters expand.

He has been a disaster for them. They have 5 better options than him in their rotation, so maybe he pitches better from the bullpen to help them win this year.

They are pretty good this season as well, they have a better record than us by 4.5 games and are having to deal with similar injuries as the Astros.

If only we had a Roy Hobbs waiting for his chance.

Regardless, for all the grief Dubon gets on here he has been a terrific utility guy.

I took it as him talking about the Rangers (Montgomery)

Dubon’s soul left his body on impact, it rejoined him on the rebound off the wall. The rest of the team needs to play with some intensity and urgency.

I played on pickup slow pitch softball teams with more stable lineups.

Re: the Tucker thing.

I've been one to just say “it sucks. Sometimes they (bone bruises) can be a bad one… and this must be a bad one.”

but this is just bizarre now:

Do they not actually talk? Just tap “call” instead of typing a very long, long, long text.

And after all that, he’s still not running?!

I'm imagining Espada reading this novel of a text full of good news… and gets to the end and sees three dots.

and then a second later gets the note “P.S. still not running but hope to be soon!”

Jokes on you.  Text was actually 50 words long but Espada is only barely literate.

Yordan breaks a big scoreboard. Altuve punches through a smaller one. Whitcomb sticks a wedgie in the outfield fence. Dubon was only trying to be the ball, Danny.
