I went and grabbed a matinee at Alamo Village today (Money Man - really liked it).  When I was walking in, I noted a video return box for Vulcan Video outside and when I walked in, they had a bunch of DVD sleeve inserts organized by director and genre.

I asked the guy at the desk and he said that they bought the Vulcan Video inventory and are setting up a small rental shop, hopefully completed by the end of April.  He said that they will be free rentals, just asking people to bring them back.  It's DVD's for now, but they are working to figure out VHS as well at some point, although it's harder to find and not many people still have (or want) VHS players.  I'll be interested to see it when it's set up.

Just FYI for you physical media heads out there.

I believe they have done this in a handful of other (non-Texas) Alamo Drafthouse locations.

How’s that gonna work if the rentals are free?

If they get you to walk into/up to the theater to return the DVD,  there's a chance you might buy a ticket to see another picture show.
