The boy had a blast on the fishing trip and we hauled about 80 lbs of Blackfin and Snapper out. About 30 lbs of tuna steaks and 15 lbs of snapper filets at the end of the day.

Stopped at Xpress Burger by Annaville on the way into town and it's great. Bun was great, meat was great and overall flavor was excellent.

It's inside a gas station with a few tables.

Good burger.

Had their Bier Haus Burger last night.  Juicy and flavorful, on a tasty bun (Hawaiian?)  Didn’t do the swings.

Others in party had the fish and chips and breaded shrimp basket.  Good experience - would go back.

BTW I10 west to 410 south is a level of suck I've never experienced before.

I live in NW Austin and I almost never go that way anymore.  My mind begins to explode with the slow fuckers in the "fast/passing" lane on 35, and then the 410 South has been suckage for years.  At least for the most part folks know to GTFO of my way once you hit 37.  If it's a weekday I tend to roll down 183 as the ferry ride is sort of fun. But about now if I am not arriving early in the day I just go south on the one shitty section of 80 at Luling down through Kennedy and hook up to 37 in Mathis.  I doubt it's any less time, but I arrive in Port A in a much better frame of mind!

I am trying to figure out how to get down there again, but taking care of my Dad has killed my usual springtime forays.  But looks like the weather has been blowing so much with high tides that I haven't missed much beach time.  I'm curious to see how the staffing is gonna be at the new 3 story place that I assume is going to be open soon.

I usually take surface roads through Cuero and Gonzales.  I thought I was being smart taking interstate bullshit.

I am not smart. O. That note

What's the story on Irie's? Bakery now with a limited lunch menu? rotating lunch menu? Legit pastry items?

Does anyone know if any boat storage facilities that are less than 200/month? I've gotten one quote for 175 but it's in Rockport and a lot of these places have no online presence for me to email and calls go unanswered.

Second, if anyone wants to show me around the bay for fishing which includes beer and dinner once we get done I'd be happy to provide. We could also work out fees for time on the water.

Taqueria Chapala at Nile & McArdle has damn good breakfast tacos. The bacon is excellent.

i lived in san antonio for 11 years, and i could have my kayak in the water in 2 hrs  it's closer to 4 now that i'm back in austin.  so much harder, plus having to deal with the ferry now.  if you only went once or twice a year, you could deal with it.  but its a real bummer to try to get down there for a quick day of fishing with this drive.  has definitely put a damper in my fishing.

One of the guys I work with literally just mentioned that place on Thursday.  I will put it on my list of places to go if I have to leave the island and go past the bluff.

We've got a fishing charter booked for Saturday morning out of Fisherman's Wharf. Is there a good place for grab and go breakfast tacos between Rockport and Port A?

Just bookedthree nights at the Sandcastle for our anniversary.
Haven’t been there for almost 10 years, so the town has probably changed some?

the (huge) breakfast tacos at Coach's are the ones we get every time. i believe you can call ahead. absolutely worth it. love their pancakes too...they open at 7

Cancun is fine, they have a drive through on the back of the building - do that vs going in and ordering to go. MUCH faster. i think they open at 6 if the time makes a difference. also Coffee Waves has a drive through and is basically right next door in the same shopping center. open at 7.

i've been to both and like Coach's better even though the place we stay when there is super close to Cancun.

Aransas Pass HEB (if it’s open). Otherwise at that time of morning your only choice is probably a convenience store.

You aren’t going to recognize it.

If you are coming through Aransas Pass on old Highway 35 (what becomes Commercial Street in Aransas Pass), the tacos at Taco de Oro in Aransas Pass are good.

If you take Highway 35 bypass and go through Aransas Pass on Wheeler, Taqueria Mi Mexico has solid tacos.

There are a couple of other options in Aransas Pass if you go just south of 361 on Commercial where you can grab some tacos.  Taqueria Guadalajara and San Juan.

If you prefer Laredo Taco Company, there is a Stripes on 361 past the HEB in Aransas Pass.

I had issues with Cancun on my last trip. Went to Taqueria San Juan. very good and very fast. You can call ahead as well.

San Juan always works for my picky family. Plenty to choose from, no wait. quick service. No frills Tex Mex

Good thingwe booked this beachfront view at the Sandcastle before it disappears in a few months.

Beach not crowded like it was over the weekend.

Gonna be at the Executive Keys next door in 2 weeks.

Tugs moving an offshore rig into the harbor.
I’ve seen them getting towed out, but this is the first time in the opposite direction.

Ironic because back when actual wild longhorns were around they were all over the barrier islands.

When we arrived at Port A on Monday, my niece and her husband were 30 miles south on Padre Island. She took this pic - it was one of three in the vicinity that day…

We go caught in the bay once when the weather turned nasty.  Saw a few water spouts and then our fishing line started floating in the air instead of settling in the water from the static electricity.  If you had a graphite rod and held it up in the air, it would hum in your hand.  We hauled ass off the water.

So what do people do when it's gonna rain all week?

Drink on the beach in the rain.  It's funny, we've been going to Port A since the 70's.  In the summer time when we go down, we've had wet years, dry years, windy years, calm years, hot years, hurricane years, beach tar years, sargasso years, mosquito years, shark years, man-o-war years, etc.  Waiting for the cold year in July.

Any damage/fallout from the high water last week in Port A?  I'll be down in mid July.

No serious damage. Beach got flooded for a day or two but it's back to normal. Tons of people everywhere.
