I think the coaches had their eyes fully opened on Auburn after last night.  There's no way they risk next season on him.  He may not be encouraged to move on, but I can't imagine there's anyway we don't look for an upgrade.

Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

They already announced he's coming back, sadly.

Just because he's coming back doesn't mean he doesn't have to compete for his job.

yeah there's no way they can run Auburn back. They will try to find a replacement.

I assume we will look for a kicker in the spring period?

I thought we were on the SMU kicker but he never entered? Maybe he is waiting until the spring period?

Just dropped a note on a portal WR that will visit #Texas soon ($)@OnTexasFootball @CJVogel_OTF @GHamiltonOTF https://t.co/5Z23zTKGfp

Absolutely. And I hope they do have tryouts. Dude has regressed in unimaginable ways. It's baffling. How do you constantly miss gimme FGs? Like, wtf?

#4660

It's not baffling.  It happens all the time with kickers.  There have been quite a few good NFL kickers who just woke up one day and couldn't make a field goal to save their life from that day forward.

Kicking field goals is like golf. It is such a technical skill that if something breaks you can break 10 other things trying to chase the first thing.

I've personally never seen it since I don't really watch the NFL, but for us Texas fans, i have never seen a guy regress so much in my life.

Go look at J-Tuck.  Dude just fell off a cliff this season - 73.3% after basically never falling below 85% in his pro career.  Mental or physical, eventually you just hit a wall

Dan Bailey was arguably the best kicker in the NFL for awhile and then just started sucking.  Nick Folk wasn't quite as good, but went to shit even more dramatically.  He was one of the ones that managed to figure it out and is still kicking.  That's just from the Cowboys off the top of my head.  The list is long.

There was a kicker out of Westlake we flipped late last cycle who is on the roster as a walk-on, Spencer Barnett. I believe he was previously committed to Colorado State.

Westlake kicker Spencer Barnett hammers a 59-yard field goal in the 4Q of the Chaps' game against Ridge Point to give them a 31-21 lead. The Texas record is 62 yards, but this kick came in so clutch for the Chaps @Westlake_Nation #TXHSFB

Yeah, but he's been in the league for so long that it was bound to happen. He'sbeen the best FG kicker his entire career, but he's no longer a young buck, you know? But I get your point

Per ESPN, Bert is 124th in the country in FG% this year at 64%. There are a lot of good kickers with eligibility to go tamper with, many from small programs. The top 20 are all around 90% or better.

Fwiw, last year's 83% would be around 40th in the country. Solid but still not irreplaceable.

As an Oilers fan this hits close to home.  We went through like 5 kickers in the run “n” shoot era that were great for a season or half a season only to get cut soon after.

Happened to Jake Moody just this year for San Fran. Had a great rookie season and start to this year, then went to absolute shit the past couple of weeks.

Alabama WR Amari Jefferson talks entering the Transfer Portal and the schools he'll look at first including Tennessee: https://t.co/m7Z897ZfH9

I like Thomas’s ability to make contested catches deep. He seems like a valuable piece for the offense next season.

IT on Noah Thomas

Noah Thomas, a 6’6” wide receiver from Texas A&M, has entered the transfer portal, drawing significant interest from several top programs. In the 2024 season, Thomas recorded 39 receptions for 574 yards, averaging 14.7 yards per catch, and scored 8 touchdowns. His standout performances include a 5-catch, 124-yard game with 2 touchdowns against Auburn and a 6-catch, 109-yard effort with a touchdown against Arkansas.

Thomas is originally from League City, Texas, and attended Clear Springs High School, where he first made a name for himself as a dynamic receiving threat. He was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, boasting an On3 rating of 89.28. He was ranked as the No. 65 wide receiver in the nation, the 57th player in the state of Texas, and 379th player nationally. His size, athleticism, and red-zone ability make him a highly coveted prospect.

Programs such as USC, Miami, and Georgia are pursuing Thomas aggressively. Texas has also shown interest, having reviewed his film and reaching out to gauge interest. While Texas appears intrigued by what Thomas could bring to the program, they may not be as “all-in” on his recruitment as the other schools listed. The Longhorns’ level of involvement may depend on roster needs, how well Thomas fits into Coach Sarkisian’s system, and the competitive landscape of other offers.

Miami could be an outlier in this recruitment due to questions surrounding its quarterback situation. Stability at the QB position is often a critical factor for wide receivers, and this uncertainty might affect Thomas’s decision-making process.

Adding a player of Thomas’s caliber could enhance Texas’s receiving corps, particularly in red-zone situations and as a vertical passing threat. However, to secure his commitment, Texas will need to make a strong case in the face of intense competition from programs like USC and Georgia, who are likely offering aggressive NIL packages and emphasizing their offensive systems.

Based on the lack of mention of returning to aggy, one could speculate that they are not in the running to bring him back.  Which is fun.  Or at least they will be compelled to fork over an extravagant sum of cash to regain his attention.

#4676

Sounds like we won’t be the biggest offer which I think is appropriate for Thomas. Hopefully staying in Texas with a proven and stable QB and coach situation wins the day

I remember when Fox first started broadcasting NFL football its pregame show was a little weirder and they would do a top 5 players of the Week every week and Al Del Greco was always number 1.

My brother and I didnt know why that was funny, and I still don't. But we still laughed

#4686

I know Choice said he won’t, but after yesterday’s game, I hope we go after a RB in the portal. We need a “chicken salad out of chicken shit” back.

Let me start by saying he has regressed from last year. But what do you consider a "gimme" in college? Bert was 9 of 9 inside of 40 yards before the one he missed one to win it the other day. Do you consider 40-45 yards a gimme? These are college kids, not pros.

Place kicking has come so incredibly far in the last 20 years that I'm not sure anyone remembers when 50-52 yards was considered the far end of NFL kickers range.

Place kicking is so technical and can be just like golf with the yips. Or when you line up over a putt and the hole looks the size of a ball. It happens. These kids aren't pros. But there's a reason I tell my 13 year old if he can kick the ball consistently from 45 yards he can get a scholarship to a good school. He's in 7th grade and is pretty solid from 32 and in right now.

Listen, tell your mother fucking kid that anything within 45 yards is a gimme and get him to improve his range a ton. Beat him if you have to. We are all counting on you to make him the next Justin Tucker.

Speaking of WR dying on the vine at aggy, what happened to that muhammad kid?  Did he wear arm sleeves all year?

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Pretty much half his production this year came in one game against Cal. It was a red flag when Kirby let him walk last year and Norvell happily took the bait. Georgia rarely lets the good ones walk away.

We're thin at edge next year....need depth pieces.

From available public info, had a terrible attitude, was benched after a few games, rode the pine and then quit before the bowl game.  I believe he is out of eligibility so I would guess you will see him as an UDFA in some camp.

Maybe. Doesn't feel like the type of guy with a depth piece asking price or playing time requirement if he bouncing to his 3rd school in 3 years.

I'm confused. I thought the portal closed 12/28.

1. Some players are still in the portal and uncommitted. They can still be recruited.

2. Players have five days after their team's season ends to enter the portal. Once a player informs their school of their intentions, the school has 48 hours to update the portal. Thus, the lag may actually be a week after their season ends. Therefore, entering the portal is still an option for a number of players.
