Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

With all of Sark’s connections there, how did we end up taking so many Bama busts that are clearly not culture fits?

fwiw my cousin is a coach at a d2 school up in Connecticut. I was talking with him about the philosophy of taking transfers that are not culture fits and his answer wasn't surprising to me. First, everyone knows what they are getting themselves into when they approach someone who isn't a culture fit. There are no surprises at all. Second every staff has their own risk tolerance. You weigh the potential upside against the potential issues they bring. You don't want to overload any one position coach or side of the ball with culture problems.

Sark and his staff made a bet on the potential payoff. If they bust, they bust. If they leave without making everything worse then you've only lost the money it cost to bring them in.

Feels like most of the reports said Niblack was a good teammate and hard worker. Good luck to him.

So seems like biggest spring portal wants are DT, K, TE, WR imo. WR or TE would've been nice to have for spring practice but oh well. And maybe shore up the OL or secondary opportunistically.

I feel like spring portal could get wild depending on all this regulatory stuff with Title IX and the House Settlement. If schools have been making deals with the expectation of revenue sharing budget and that number gets lowered or delayed by the gov't, there could be chaos due to unfulfilled promises. Who knows what will happen though..

Except the one reported right here on this site.

It’s funny that Niblack’s atrocious blocking wasn’t even relevant because he couldn’t pick up the bare minimum of the playbook necessary to see the field.

But seriously, why are all of the Alabama transfers so damn weird? Hall couldn’t handle criticism and had an ongoing jihad against campus parking authorities (which I fully support). Billingsley was too soft and weak to support a baffling level of entitlement. Kendrick Blackshire didn’t have the discipline to go on a diet and transferred out to UTSA instead of staying on a winning program at a flagship academic institution. Bond apparently had a room temp IQ, a bad attitude, and was so utterly inept at blocking that I was convinced he was sandbagging second down run plays on purpose to increase the chances he got targeted on a third and long.

I can understand busting due to a lack of talent, but the entitlement and laziness just seemed so at odds with the myth of a Saban-lead program.

Not wanting to do Burnt Ends doesn't make him a bad teammate. Just couldn't find a role once other guys stepped up.

Hope he finds success whenever he doesn't play us.

Right now, somewhere, Sydney is almost certainly masturbating furiously to the confirmation of Niblack’s departure.

Why the hell would anyone want to be a part of our group? If I could find a better class of losers to hang out with, I’d have left years ago. We’re a confederacy of dunces if there ever was one.

They clearly thought the same in pursuing the Purdue TE. That said, the word all fall and continuing this winter is that unless someone is of seriously high caliber, they’re going to mostly stand pat. If they like what they’re working with this spring, it would take someone special for them to make a move. Agbo still being on the roster probably helps.

Golden straight up said he didn't get Sark's offense when he got here, but he met with Sark twice a week in impromptu "office hours" until he understood it.

We need more Goldens and less Bama rejects.

So the TE room is Shannon / Randle / Washington / Townsend / Winston - not bad if Washington is what he's hyped to be.

Shannon looks promising as well. He looked really fluid for his size running routes before the Cotton Bowl. He seems like another Gunnar Helm, spend two years in S&C and then you are ready to make your mark. Helm had 19-236-2 through 4 years on campus.

Yep. While not st the same level of coaching. When I coached youth travel football in Florida. I made 2 gambles on problem kids that weren’t culture fits. Today 1 kid is a starting DT at D1 level and will be drafted next year.  He figured it out.  The other is agiyle hall. That year we had 5 future D1 players on that team it was fun. But problem kids at college have typically been problem kids their whole life. You can only hope to change some and they figure it out.  Others well you have guys like cook and hall Hudson etc that never realize the generational money they could make

Gunnar Helm's dad posted this on the OTF thread:

Amari is a great young man who always had a positive attitude and is a great teammate.  We wish him the best of luck.  The TE room is in good hands, and very talented.  Sometimes the answer is not in the portal or incoming freshmen.  Coach Banks is developing everyone in the room to be ready to contribute.

I know everyone wants a WR, but does Sark?  I feel like he's been burnt a few times with getting guys in who struggle to understand the offense.  Maybe better to develop guys within the system who have multiple offseasons to learn and master the offense?

Even Golden took a while to come on because he struggled to understand the offense and had to put in the face to face work with Sark.

For every AD Mitchell, you get first half of 2024 Golden, Bond, Hall, etc.

I’m hopeful for Shannon as well.  He’s bigger than Helm and I’d like to see if he can be that second, blocking-oriented TE to complement Washington. Hopefully the staff can figure out if he’s up to that job during spring practice.

Never said he was a bad teammate, but stupid is pretty easy to spot in the wild.

Shannon and Washington are two guys who are going to be stepping up as well as the incoming class. I wouldn't sleep on what's already here.

Juan was wide open for a TD on the tipped ball in the Cotton Bowl. He's not as worthless as you guys project and he was out there for a reason. I'm very surprised he didn't get the call on the 2nd down that was the worst playcall in history though, I really was expecting that to be a Juan is unaccounted for easy curl into the ez play or even a Juan power run formation.

I'm obviously bias because Juan is also one of my favorite people and I've known him for 4 years now, but the dude did what he was asked and did it as well as you could hope for.

I think the issue with Niblack is that he just wasn't really a fit for what Sark's TE do - sure physically he's more like JT than he was Gunnar, but with all the WR weapons on offense there wasn't really a need for a dude who is inline that can motion to empty set and run routes and catch and/or be downfield to block after a catch from other receivers and/or keep up in front of an RB in space. That's just not what Niblack was, he was a glorified receiver who wasn't good enough to be either a receiver or a TE

Just now, Red Five said:

Nope. Not if they're already on campus or have even already committed to Texas.  Gotta be shinier and newer.

The lack of outgoing portals and especially the lone portal out being a portal in should tell you something about the buy in, culture and NIL structure in place to build a long term roster like Georgia and Alabama and Florida and Ohio State had during their dynasty-like runs.

It's all about infrastructure, a system and a continuity factor regardless of personnel that gets you into a situation of long term sustained success.

You were very surprised that a guy with 9 catches and 0 TDs didn’t get his number called in the biggest moment of the year?

I lose track of facetiousness, admittedly

I choose to believe that our lack of portal-outs is a sign of how bad our roster is (no one even wants them!) and that we're doomed. DOOMED I SAY!!!!

Historically Sark has been aggressive at portal WR but who knows now. Maybe not.

AD was good. Golden was average at first but great in the second half. Bond was the reverse - started strong then disappeared. Bolden and Neyor didn't really get much chance because of depth chart and injury but I'd say Bolden did his part. Agiye was a flyer that failed. Overall though that list was pretty crucial to the team the last couple years.

Every time that's posted I notice Laci Peterson's name.

Juan has been on ST for much of his career iirc. He wasn’t as wiggly as I expected, but he seemed like a good teammate.

I’m glad he found his way on the field before moving on.
