Tate could be lots of teams because that number isn't crazy for a good player.

Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

Speculation on who is offering Smith and Tate those numbers? Assuming Oregon on Smith?

Based on Clay Travis being one of the original sources of that number, Tennessee for Smith.

that $4.5M number.. smart out of Smiths camp.. the booster talking about a $30M roster for this season, did not go on deaf ears

make em pay, kid

One of many reasons you do not hear much coming from TOF for media is this right here. TOF gets a shit ton of media requests. Walk softly and carry a $25+M payroll, I always say. Ohio State idiots can't shut the fuck up, for whatever reason.

I don't get the fascination with Tate. I wouldn't pay $1M+ for him and hope Texas isn't involved.

Well, he's getting paid to do it because we are his audience.

I think the staff is fine rolling with what we have at WR, the talent is there but can everyone learn the playbook and be reliable.  I’m sure they will consider taking an experienced WR if it fits what they want for the right price but it’s not a must.  Taking one might lead to a spring transfer out too. These guys know Sark isn’t know for spreading the ball around a lot the last few years, hopefully they do a bit more of that this year.

Agreed. I never really thought much of him other than, "Oh hey, look how wide ass open he is again because everybody is covering Smith and Egbuka."

Another veteran portal WR in the Spring window would be nice insurance, though. I don't have as much faith in the guys we haven't seen yet or the true freshmen. It seemed over the top that they took three portal WR last year but Sark seems to have a thing for WRs.

Listening to Bobby pencil in Parker Livingstone as a starter makes me hope we are evaluating wide receivers in the portal.

I imagine as long as we continue to have success on the field coupled with a strong NIL backing we will be floated as a possibility for just about every portal entry or potential entry.

This give off 2000s through late 2010s vibes that would have our mid game ads declaring…

I don’t see us spreading it around more with worse depth at WR

Tate returning.

Tate returning.

https://www.on3.com/college/ohio-state-buckeyes/news/carnell-tate-expected-to-remain-at-ohio-state-not-enter-transfer-portal-amid-tampering-allegations/

Wide receiver Carnell Tate is expected to return to Ohio State next season, per On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong. On Friday, Nakos reported that outside parties had tampered with Tate, who has not entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Tate was reportedly commanding offers of up to $1 million.

With Ohio State’s players’ five-day window to enter the transfer portal set to expire on Saturday, the Buckeyes have been working overtime to return their top underclassmen for next season. Tate is one of those desirable talents.

Tate finished this past season with 52 catches for 733 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The sophomore standout hauled in a season-high seven receptions for 87 yards in Ohio State’s 28-14 win over Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

While Carnell Tate was the third option this past season for the Buckeyes behind Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka, he is expected to be WR2 next season, assuming Smith returns to the Buckeyes for the 2025 campaign.

It certainly seems Smith’s future with Ohio State is secured. Despite receiving offers from competing programs ranging from $4.5 to $5 million, Smith all but confirmed his return on X Friday. According to Nakos, Smith will earn at least $3 million next season from OSU.

The two young wideouts won’t be the only ones receiving massive paydays this offseason. Nakos believes that Ohio State will be one of several select programs spending $27 to $30 million on its roster in 2025.

In situations like these, I only hope Texas gets involved to the point of running up the price for other teams.

For the posters in the know about how the process works, what are the opportunities to play this little game theory exercise of making your rivals pay more?

I assume everything is run through an agent?  Does the agent do an auction type where it's all in the open (Oregon just offered 1.1, Texas or OSU can you beat it?) or is it more of a submit your final and best offer by 3 pm?

I imagine if you get too cute and offer 1 mm for a player you're only willing to pay 500k for, it gets a little tough to back out of it due to reputational risk, but I assume we could take a risk and slightly overpay on an offer just in the hopes of fucking up someone's payroll.

I would think merely expressing interest and inquiring about the asking price would be enough for the agent to take it and run to other interested parties. I highly doubt Texas would burn any bridges by throwing fake offers. If only there were business savvy people associated with Texas…

I'm not sure we have to make a real offer or even talk to the player.  We can probably have our 9.95ers put out a piece saying Texas is interested and going to make a run at him.  That's all the leverage the kid probably needs to up his offers.

Texas doesn’t play with fire. If an NIL number is offered, Texas is willing to back that if the player wants to come to Texas.

Guys like Nakos are either unwitting imbeciles being played by agents or part of the bullshit because it drives clicks.

It goes without saying that we'd be interested in ND's entire starting interior OL transferring here.

What I want to know is... WHY is Domer's entire interior starting OL in the portal?

Yeah… the guy who couldn’t pick up Sark’s offense after spring ball, summer training, and a full season was simultaneously able to knock out 60 credit hours (mostly upper division) in two normal semesters and two summer sessions.

Better watch that money 💰, because he’s likely to steal it and spend it on drugs.

I could be misremembering, but didn’t they suffer some late injuries leading to a lot of shuffling? To me this reads that the ones who came in and started later in the season will either be threatening their job, or the back up’s want to cash in on their starting experience.

The two transfers were the 7th and 8th oline starters next year. They played because of injuries and would have been a backup next year. ND has a of young OL talent.

Either they transfer to start or wait on the bench for a starter to get injured

Some weird stories about the ND locker room after losing to OSU.

It was mostly players yelling at the media, which I could personally give two fucks about but maybe not the scene for everyone

Potentially going back in the portal? Can you even go back after declaring for the draft?

So the ND interior OL transfers like yelling at media?  Let's introduce them to FCB and Kirk on their visit, they won't even ask for NIL for the chance to come here

I think yes as long as he hasn't hired an agent yet. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

2/7 is the date to withdraw from the draft. He’d have to wait to enter in spring?

Don't they all already have agents that negotiate their NIL?

Not real agents, but many of them act as such

Drew Rosenhaus is negotiating for these kids and I think he’s a pretty real agent. They aren’t all just uncles or friends

But his point is, it is not as an official agent. It is labeled as some kind of marketing because of the "non-professional" aspect of HS kids.

Is the deadline gone for tOSU portal entries? Might not matter anyway but supposedly Jim Knowles is heading to PSU. Chip is also a popular NFL OC candidate

Yesterday was the deadline to inform their team. Ohio State I believe has 48 hours to enter their name in the portal but assuming that would have leaked already if it were someone like Smith.

Hero Kanu (Ohio State DL) visited today

This is the guy that has barely played, right? From reading comments on his portal announcement it didn’t sound like he was being factored into their plans going forward.

Enjoy Alabama State

Also we don't need Tate. We have a plethora of WR'S with talent. And two 5* players who will play. I believe Lockett and Ffrench will be damn good this season, even as frosh. And we have a 2nd year of Wingo and Moore. Butler is suppose to be legit. We good.

I looked at the tOSU 247 board when he entered and they were a bit surprised and were saying he would have been in the rotation this coming season.  Vibe seemed to be they didn't want to lose him.
