I doubt we can read much into the choices for the forthcoming season, depending on our QB2's skill set compared to Arch/QB1. On the other hand, I'ma add "more happier" to my Glossary of Surlyisms.

I’m pretty sure that would be contingent on who else enters the portal. We wouldn’t pass on a Jordyn Tyson just because we got this kid. I think Sark has shown he isn’t afraid to stack at any position.

Kinda sorta true but not really. Yes, a couple of the big names are saying they won’t put more money in til Wilcox reports to Rivera but it’s dicey Cal politics at play and Rivera gets to do what he wants supposedly. The AD is going to be fired for cause but because of a lawsuit by the former women’s swimming coach (Teri McKeever), they can’t shitcan the AD yet because of liability. So it’s all fucked. There is money in the collective though… it ain’t Texas money but they will be bringing in another half dozen guys and if Ott and Endries leave, they’ll have a couple million to spread around. Ott is the highest earner…

April 15Apr 15 That's crazy, I didn't notice he was in CAL now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Rivera California Golden Bears (2025–present) On March 20, 2025, Rivera was announced as the general manager of his alma mater, California, with oversight over their budget and football staff.[70] His contract runs through 2028, with his compensation funded entirely by donors.[71] @Bevo&Pevo did you know that Ron Rivera was born in Coco Solo hospital on the Atlantic side.

April 15Apr 15 Popular Post Bobby Burton How do you build an elite roster, an elite college football team? It’s done piece by piece and it’s done over a long period of time. In essence, a great program is created by taking multiple steps forward while suffering as few steps backward as possible. That’s really what Steve Sarkisian and GM Brandon Harris have done as well as or better than anybody in college football the last four years. There just haven’t been many missteps, many setbacks. So the forward momentum can keep building and building unabated. In my mind, that’s exactly what happened yet again yesterday with the addition of Emmett Mosley V. The Longhorns plucked the 6-foot-2 former Stanford receiver out of the portal who caught 48 passes in the final nine games of the season for the Cardinal. Mosley is that rare player who is only going to be a true sophomore but is already a proven commodity on the college level. That’s how you build a team. Strong piece by strong piece. With a never-ending eye toward improvement in every way. ** Mosley is a tremendous early start for the Horns in the portal. Texas essentially got a jump start since the portal doesn’t officially open until tomorrow. Coach Steve Sarkisian has said the Horns will be looking in the portal for a few spots. We are also told to expect Texas to be somewhat aggressive early in the portal. Only time will tell if that aggressiveness bears fruit. We’ll see how it goes. I think the Horns will be on the lookout for a tight end, at least one defensive lineman (possibly two) and possibly another pass rusher. With the addition of Mosley, I don’t expect the Horns to pursue another wide receiver, at least not at this time. Nor do I think the Horns will look to add a running back, in part because Tre Wisner, I am told, “has taken another step” this spring and the depth behind him is encouraging. **

The last couple of years, Texas has been very active and acquisitive in the portals. I am a little surprised they are being a little restrained now. Does Texas really like its hand that much, that it will forego drawing more cards at WR and RB? Or is this a reaction to the expected high expense of this spring portal offerings, and a desire to not blow the salary structure over anything but the most needed pieces?

We have a much healthier roster now and I’m not sure there is any position where you can promise anyone particular reps outside of OG, TE, and possibly WR. And bringing someone in could mean pushing someone out, someone you don’t necessarily want to lose.
April 15Apr 15 Adding a portal RB prob means Gibson would leave. TE and K are the most important additions now. Auburn will lose us 1-2 games if allowed to stay on.

It appears as though the money earmarked at WR got moved to Mosley. They really like the freshmen WRs early. Jackson appears to have been correct in his evaluation of McCutcheon, who he fought for as a target. At some point, you can't keep bringing guys in over the top of other promising guys who want to see the field and who also happen to be expensive NIL agreements. At RB, Texas stands to have at least 6 guys at the ready. Go get another guy when those guys think they're healthy and good enough and things start to unravel. I'm not sure why you think Texas is going to be restrained. They're going to go after fewer positions, sure. They're loaded. Where they see a real need, what Burton is saying is that they're going go heavy on the offers for the right guys, lock them up quickly, and be done with the process.

April 15Apr 15 I can see why Flood is going to clean up in the 26 recruiting class along the OL.. Texas has only targeted one OL and that was the guy from SC who chose Oregon in the December window. Flood can sell that he doesn't use the portal like other OL coaches do because he believes in his development and in them when he recruits them out of High School

Christian Clark being healthy changes things at RB imo. If Baxter is ready to go in August that’s six scholarship RBs available. Funny, one of the new mods on IT said that we’re still light at RB and that Sark typically likes to have seven scholly RBs. When I pointed out that hasn’t happened here yet, he began listing out RBs by year, including walk-ons. And like Velton Gardner, who was only added after Clark and Baxter were both lost for the year. I bailed at that point.
April 15Apr 15 If you have six healthy scholarship running backs and you still think you need to go to the portal, you would need to ask yourself serious questions about your high school talent evaluation. Interesting that they are done at receiver.

I would be surprised if we needed more than one defensive linemen to be honest. Other than tight end and kicker there isn’t an obvious hole in the roster. Every other position you only question experience, not quality or depth.
