A really puzzling choice but I guess he clicked with Murray after his old RB coach left Cal and he needs that mentorship.  Or something.  He probably regrets turning down almost 7 figures from Georgia last year and thinks Oklahoma somehow makes him a better pro prospect cause he definitely left some money on the table in Berkeley to go to Norman.  Whatever…

this was all Nagy

Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

Seems like an Ethan Burke starter kit...I hope. Otherwise we're going to have to go all the way back to Brian Robison for a comp.

As of this 12:01 this morning, the transfer portal has officially opened. It promises to be the wildest ride of college football free agency that we've ever seen.

Around the nation, teams and their personnel departments are literally scrambling to make it all happen.

But hopefully it won't be so crazy for Texas.

The Horns, far from being in any sort of rebuilding mode, are looking to hold what they have while adding a few select pieces to one of the country's most talented teams.

What pieces exactly?

Steve Sarkisian has mentioned WR, TE, and the defensive front. Granted, Sark spoke about WR before the Horns landed Stanford transfer Emmett Mosley V on Monday. Therefore, we don't expect the Horns to go after another receiver, not with the emergence of Parker Livingstone in this camp to join Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore and Mosley, as well as the promising young freshmen. The one caveat at the position might be if there's a potential, high-level return specialist who is also a receiver that comes available thereby addressessing a clear need.

At tight end, the Horns would love to find someone as talented and proven as Cal's Jack Endries, who had 56 catches for 623 yards a year ago and was the Golden Bears' leading receiver. But most in the recruiting industry believe Endries is headed for upstart Indiana where his former college quarterback has already transferred to. Plus, he's expected to be heavily recruited across the country with Oklahoma, Alabama and Miami all giving chase.

Just remember, Sark calls the tight end possibly the second most important position in his offensive scheme, so the Horns are going to try to find the best tight end possible. And, if history proves correct, likely land someone that fits.

On the defensive front, the needs are perhaps a tad more vague. A rash of injuries has hurt the depth at edge, with both Colton Vasek and Zina Umeozulu out for much of spring and Trey Moore spending more and more time at off-ball linebacker. While Texas likes its true freshman on the edge (Sark has mentioned them more than once), there's still a long season and so many snaps to consider, especially if another injury were to occur.

The interior DL likely needs at least one, if not two, new faces, too. Gerry Hamilton likes to mention the need for a penetrating three-technique, a disruptor of sorts. Those will be admittedly hard to find. And if they're out there, the recruitments are likely to be ultra-competitive. This is where General Manager Brandon Harris and his staff have to really beat the bushes to find someone who not only that fits their needs but also matches the quality of play required to make a run at a national championship. Texas could also just use more depth generally on the interior, that's why I always say two, not just one, DLs are a possibility.

On top of the "select" positional pieces mentioned above, Sark always makes it a point to go after what he sees as unique opportunities, like Andrew Mukuba a year ago. So if someone who Sark or the staff sees a player they think can help the Horns win another game, then don't be surprised if Texas makes a real run at them. That could come at virtually any position on the roster.

The portal is open. For Texas, the goal is for the madness to ensue all around you, yet stay steady and meet (or potentially exceed) your specific needs.

After last season I don't understand how you can go into next season with Bert/Stone

Were being gas lit

We lost the damn conference game with a title worthy team bc of that shit

Kicker should be a 100% tamper and acquire priority

Interesting that they are done at receiver.

You can't keep recruiting over everyone you have forever.

I'd assume this means they are much higher than the general consensus is on CTJs guy, Butler and the freshmen

We will never have to attempt a field goal with Arch.

It tells me they really do believe in Livingstone and these freshman and that it’s not just 9.95 spring hype.

Well we just added a guy from the portal, and could add another one.

I hope not. Have we even seen him kick?

In this cycle or in total this offseason?

https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/late-in-the-spring-texas-is-ramping-up-the-battle-at-placekicker/

Quote

“We haven’t done enough yet [with the Stone vs Auburn kicking battle],” Sarkisian said Monday. “I think we’ll really start to ramp it up here Wednesday. We’ve done some, but now we’ve got to really start to ramp this thing up to get a real gauge of what it looks like.”

...

Should Texas go into the portal, they won’t lack for options to pursue. Texas State’s Mason Shipley, a product of Liberty Hill, was 15-for-19 in 2024 and a perfect 15-for-15 in 2023. His long last season was 60 yards, a kick that took place indoors at Houston’s NRG Stadium just before halftime in a loss to Sam Houston State. There’s also Baylor’s Isaiah Hankins, who was 14-for-19 for the Bears last year with a long of 51.

But for now, Texas is looking to learn if the options on campus in Stone and Auburn contain the kicker the Longhorns will need for a run at the national championship. That’s a process that begins today, per Sarkisian.

“Trying to work on that,” Sarkisian said. “That’ll be a big emphasis of ours as we continue to move forward.”

Banks needs to step up.  I don't love our TE depth and our special teams were not good last year.

I don't understand how Auburn's name is even still being mentioned as an option.  He cost us dearly last season.  He's shown what he can ['t] do during crunch time.

Yeah, I don't give a fuck how he looks in practice.

I get the sentiment but it was mental at the end of last year. He had over an 80% accuracy the two previous years. They should be tampering with a stud but no reason to bring in a kid like the Baylor kicker. I would have concerns of the TxST kid being reliable in front of 100k people, especially in Columbus, Dallas, Florida, Athens.

Who gives a shit what he did in 2023? He cost us games and was complete ass in 2024, what have you done lately?  Also Auburn is dog shit 40+ yards out, if we can get a kicker that can hit from those ranges it helps us put points on the board. The Baylor kicker is worse than Auburn for sure.

It's a shame we don't have an option to take this attitude with your posting.

They would be willing to wait until the 2026 season to play him?

Right. They should take their millions in NIL and sign a redshirt freshman backup. Or, and this is just me thinking out loud here, they should take that money and sign an actual starting quarterback.

Who doesn’t have to sit a year due to the conference transfer rule.

Smh big pickup for the gooners.

We'll see what the new coach thinks next year when he takes over for Venebals.

Another 7-5 season, even with Mateer. I hate to be "that guy", but we'll see how well he does against actual competition during the season.

Remember, ou still has a hard ass schedule.

I would hope so. He's from Liberty Hill.

Smart move by Sark to go after a backup kicker.
