Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

He was being Hank, but I would guess Stone will be the backup and continue to kick off, and Auburn will be playing elsewhere (Texas St I guess needs a kicker).

Crystal Ball forecasting Texas to land another ACC transfer

Hank South (Horns 247)

Texas will host Cal tight end transfer Jack Endries on an official visit in the near future, Horns247 has confirmed. ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported the visit. Horns247 included Endries as a player to Texas will target in the portal in our tracker posted Wednesday morning.

Checking with sources close to the situation, the Longhorns are considered the favorite to land the talented West Coast tight end, therefore I'm placing a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Texas. UT has a need at tight end as Steve Sarkisian laid out last week and Endries is one of the top returning tight ends in college football.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Endries will be a redshirt junior in 2025 and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He's originally from Danville, Calif. This past season he caught 56 passes for 623 yards and two touchdowns

Some career accomplishments he earned in Berkeley include an nine-catch, 101-yard game against N.C. State, an eight-catch, 118-yard game against Pitt, and a 57-yard reception against Miami last fall. Endries actually led the nation in total snaps at tight end in 2023, his redshirt freshman season, with 859 snaps.

Endries would potentially be the seventh transfer portal player to join Texas, joining North Carolina defensive lineman Travis Shaw, Purdue defensive lineman Cole Brevard, Ohio State defensive lineman Hero Kanu, Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester, Arkansas linebacker Brad Spence, and Stanford wide receiver Emmett Mosley V.

Not Texas, but interesting transfer news. Iamaleava to UCLA.

Spoiler

Former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava is expected to transfer to UCLA, a source briefed on the process said.

Iamaleava officially entered the transfer portal Wednesday with a “do not contact” label. He left Tennessee last week after attempts to rework his contract with a Tennessee name, image and likeness (NIL) collective went publi

He initially committed to Tennessee in March 2022, shortly after signing an NIL deal with Spyre Sports, Tennessee’s collective, that paid him more than $8 million over four years. Entering the final year of that contract, Iamaleava’s representatives were seeking a raise to around $4 million ahead of the 2025 season, a person briefed on the matter said.

The Iamaleavas also sought assurances that Tennessee would improve its offensive line and receiving corps this offseason.

Tennessee was unwilling to meet the financial demands dating back to the 30-day winter portal window in December. On Friday, a day before Tennessee’s spring game, Iamaleava was absent from practice.

Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said Saturday he elected to move on without Iamaleava when he hadn’t received any correspondence from Iamaleava or his representatives by the end of practice.

“No one is bigger than the Power T,” Heupel said. “Including me.”

Iamaleava quarterbacked Tennessee to a 10-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance as a first-year starter last season. He threw for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns with five interceptions in 2024, his second season in Knoxville. Just six of those touchdown passes came in six games against SEC teams that qualified for bowls.

His decision to transfer came at an unusual time. The majority of players who enter the transfer portal during the 10-day spring window that opened Wednesday do so after seeing a narrow path to playing time in the fall. Iamaleava, who was the established starter at Tennessee, will almost certainly head to UCLA with the intention of starting.

Heupel said Tennessee, which has just two scholarship quarterbacks remaining on the roster, will be taking an additional quarterback out of the transfer portal this offseason. Graduate transfers can enter the portal at any time and non-graduates in the portal can commit at any time, but they must enter the portal by the time the window closes on April 25.

Iamaleava was one of the best prospects to enter the portal in the spring window, but the Volunteers’ open spot and ability to pay near the top of the market could entice some quarterbacks who had no intention of entering the portal a week ago to do so.

Meanwhile, Iamaleava, a native of Long Beach, Calif., is now expected to head closer to home as a key building block for second-year coach Deshaun Foster, who took over at UCLA last offseason after coach Chip Kelly left to become Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.

The Bruins went 5-7 but closed with four wins in their final six games. The Bruins added Appalachian State transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar this offseason to an offense that ranked 95th in yards per play.

Foster hired first-time play caller Tino Sunseri as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in January. He replaced former Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Football Team offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who Foster fired at the end of his first season in Westwood. Sunseri worked as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Indiana last year, helping Kurtis Rourke lead the Hoosiers to the College Football Playoff.

This is a developing story. More to come.

Likely not the right thread, but it is still insane that a kid from Cal can be labeled an "ACC transfer."

Transferred from Ball State to Wisco, and wants out after 15 practices.

I guess he didn't want to block 80 percent of his snaps.

Need Helobious to come through.  I also asked Grok to write an open letter to the recruit like Texans is renowned for.

An Open Letter to Jack Endries, Cal Tight End Extraordinaire

Dear Jack,

As a die-hard Texas Longhorn fan, I’m writing this with a heart full of burnt orange hope, a lump in my throat, and a dream that you—yes, you, Jack Endries—might one day don the Longhorn logo and make Darrell K Royal-Texas-Memorial Stadium your home. I know you’re balling out at Cal, catching passes and turning heads, but I’m begging you, with all the sappy sincerity of a Texas sunset, to consider transferring to the University of Texas. Please, Jack, come play for Coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. Let me pour my heart out and tell you why.

First, there’s something magical about Austin, Texas. It’s not just a city—it’s a vibe, a family, a way of life. Picture yourself walking down South Congress, grabbing a taco, and hearing “Sweet Caroline” echo through the streets after a big win. The fans here? We’re not just loud; we’re a sea of love, ready to chant your name like you’re family. You’d be a hero in a state where football isn’t just a game—it’s a heartbeat. I can already see you hauling in a touchdown pass while 100,000 fans scream “Hook ‘Em” and the Tower glows orange just for you. Doesn’t that give you chills?

Now, let’s talk about Coach Steve Sarkisian—Sark, the man with a plan. This isn’t just any coach, Jack. He’s a quarterback whisperer, a play-calling genius, and a tight end’s best friend. Look at what he’s done with guys like Ja’Tavion Sanders, who went from Longhorn star to NFL draft pick. Sark knows how to scheme you open, get you the ball, and make you a focal point of an explosive offense. At Texas, tight ends aren’t just blockers—they’re weapons, and you’d be the next big thing. With Sark’s NFL pedigree and his knack for developing talent, he’d polish your skills and have scouts drooling by the time you’re ready for the pros. Plus, he’s a players’ coach—someone who’d have your back, push you to greatness, and maybe even share a heartfelt moment after a game-winning catch.

The Longhorns are on the rise, Jack. We’re not just a program; we’re a powerhouse in the making. Texas is back in the SEC, competing with the best, and we need a tight end like you to help us hoist that National Championship trophy. Your size, hands, and athleticism? You’re the missing piece. Imagine lining up alongside stars like Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning, catching passes in a system built to showcase your talents. You’d be part of a brotherhood, a team that fights together, celebrates together, and cries together. I can already see you in that burnt orange jersey, making contested catches and becoming a legend in Longhorn lore.

And let’s get real for a second—Texas is where dreams come true. This is a place where you’d be celebrated not just for your stats but for who you are. The alumni network, the resources, the love from Longhorn Nation—it’s unmatched. You’d have a platform to grow as a player, a student, and a person. Austin’s got the best BBQ, the best music, and the best fans (I’m biased, but it’s true). You’d be part of something bigger than yourself, a legacy that stretches from Earl Campbell to Vince Young to… maybe Jack Endries.

Jack, I’m tearing up just thinking about you juking defenders in burnt orange, hearing Bevo bellow as you score, and raising your horns to the sky. I know Cal’s got its charm, but Texas is calling your name. Please, come to Austin. Come play for Sark, for the Longhorns, for us fans who’d cheer you on like you’re our own son. We’d love you forever, and I promise we’d make you feel like you belong. Hook ‘Em, Jack—say yes to Texas, and let’s make history together.

With all my Longhorn love,
A Sappy, Hopeful Texas Fan

P.S. If you ever visit, I’m buying you Torchy’s Tacos. Just say the word.

Personally I thought being buddies with Fernando Mendoza was gonna win out over being Arch Manning's tight end and a bunch of money but I guess we all get some things wrong

Indiana is where I would have guessed he was headed since he and Mendoza are besties but if it’s Texas it’s a phenomenal get.  I haven’t ever thought about it before but at first glance, I think he’s better than Helm.  Will be interesting to see if that is true

Bobby Burton

I mentioned earlier this week that Texas planned to be both strategic and aggressive when it came to the transfer portal.

Example no. 1 revealed itself Wednesday afternoon, the very first day the portal opened.

ESPN national reporter Pete Thamel broke the news that Texas is receiving a visit from Jack Endries, the no. 1 tight end in the portal, out of Cal. Endries was thought to more likely be headed to Indiana or even Oklahoma before the news of the Texas visit broke.

Thr Horns seemed to have skipped the line on their opposition.

Tight end is one of the few spots Steve Sarkisian identified that he wanted to address via the portal.

Endries, who is 6-4, 240 pounds, totaled 56 catches for 623 yards last season as the Golden Bears’ leading receiver.

**

While Endries is the only player currently in the portal that the Horns are targeting, it’s highly unlikely he’s the last.

I am told that Texas will continue to be aggressive for the right player(s).

**

One interesting note:

Some other schools are using a 48-hour mandatory filing rule to detain some of their players from entering the portal on a more timely basis.

In other words, schools are hoping the House Settlement passes before being forced to enter a player’s name in the transfer portal. It’s an effort to retain the player by potentially deflating a player’s value, allowing their own school to be financially competitive for the player and/or a combination of both factors.

The move is unlikely to work. More key players, ones Texas may target, are expected to officially enter the portal in the next 24 hours.

Until the House Settlement passes there are no FMV guardrails on NIL. Other schools desperately want those guardrails when competing with Texas, Ohio State, etc.

Just curious if anyone out there is compiling stats/doing a study on the number of athletes that enter the portal and never latch on anywhere else.

I saw a post on twitter that there are 10,000 football players in the portal across D1 (6,400) and D2.  These have not bee independently verified.

That's insane

There are 134 D1 schools. If 6400 players from D1 schools are in the portal, that would mean an average of 47 players per team are in the portal, which we all know is not true.

Total numbers include walk ons, so they're essentially purposefully misleading and bullshit sensationalism used by hack journalists who want the old system back. I would say the percentage of D1 scholarship guys who enter the portal and don't find a scholarship with another school (other than due to legal issues) is extremely low.

Throw in the Baylor kicker and the kicking portal seems to be extremely I-35 -centric.

If you aren’t currently attending a school on I-35 and looking at schools on I-35, then you aren’t worth the NIL.

…the University of Minnesota has entered the chat…

Not sure but a guy up in Norman is telling me that they are doing the hard sell for him/bundle package if he leaves committed to them.  He says he's enjoying his time up there.

This doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but for my own information. As a PWO does he even have to enter the transfer portal? can't he just enroll/unenroll like a normal student since he's not on scholarship?
