Ian Boyd is grumbling somewhere about Texas not having enough talent to make the playoffs.

I looked up “Ian Boyd” to see what the Texas Debbie Downer looked like…

Is this Ian?

Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

We’ll see. Mateer was dogshit against top 60-ish defenses last year. He’s going to face a bunch of those this year. Same for his OC.

If he’s not injured by the time they get to us, he will be by the time the game is over.

All the kickoffs go in the endzone now , punt returner however would be nice.

Oof, didn't even know he had a surgery.  They may definitely be cooked now.

no one was supposed to know it happened. My extended family are all Gator fans and we were at their spring game this year. The backup QBs girlfriend was in the box with us during the game and let it slip. She realized she fucked up and asked us not to say anything but fuck that. I don't think Lagway is going to survive long this season and while the backup is a great kid off the field, it's going to be a long season for that team if he has any meaningful playing time.

Whoa, you mean your post #8716 in this thread broke the news to everyone that one of college football’s top young QB’s had shoulder surgery, and no one outside the immediate Gator Football “family” knows about it? Damn.

Edited to add I’m not being sarcastic, but if true, that’s a big story. Sucks for Lagway and the talkative girlfriend of the backup, she’ll catch hell.

Bobby Burton

The portal opened just one week ago today. Think about all that has happened since.

Texas has added four players in just seven days (five in nine days). All are key additional pieces and all are at positions of need.

You get the feeling that maybe, just maybe, there was a plan.

A plan that was thought about and strategized behind the scenes for months.

Hats off to Brandon Harris and the entire personnel department staff. What they accomplished in such a short period of time is the envy of college football personnel departments.

**

Another fact to contemplate:

Not a single portal visitor who visited Texas this portal period took a visit elsewhere following their Texas visit.

Texas closed on the players it wanted. There was no back and forth.

That is such a rare thing in these days.

In sum, it shows the Horns had done their due diligence, identified the right players, and then had the capacity and capability to strike while the iron as hot.

Again, a lot of disparate things had to coalesce to make it all happen. But that’s exactly what Texas was able to make happen.

**

The latest pledge, Maraad Watson of Syracuse, is indicative of a portal recruitment process that will pay dividends this fall.

Watson, a freshman All-American defensive tackle, played the third most snaps of any freshman defensive tackle in the country in 2024. The Irvington, N.J., native originally picked Syracuse over Tennessee.

Yet when it came time to enter the portal - with suitors like Miami and Ohio State lining up - Watson’s first and only visit was to Texas. Texas had clearly worked the back channels of portal recruiting better than anyone.

**

So where does Texas go from here? Is Texas done in the portal?

I’m told that is up in the air, or at least it was as of yesterday afternoon.

But I wouldn’t put anything past the Texas personnel department.

As I’ve written for more than a week now, Texas will continue to be proactively aggressive if opportunities present themselves.

This is actually Taylor Hamm in the year 2035. That or about 15 minutes after his first wife informed him she wanted a divorce and was marrying a big dicked UT alum.

I mean I have no idea what the surgery was. I have no idea when the surgery was (he was dressed out and handed the ball off several times in their spring game). It could have been an outpatient exploratory surgery to assess the extent of the damage. I would say it's also possible she confused "had surgery" with "going to have surgery". I'm not claiming to be an insider or anything lol. Outside of that single interaction, I don't know shit about Gator football. She made it seem like it was a big deal when she spoke it out loud. It seemed relevant based on the first post I responded to.

Lagway did not have surgery, and has no plans to have surgery. Surgery was an option considered for his shoulder and he chose to go the rehab route. Jesus fucking Christ.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

So just to kind of sum up where we're at with portal needs/wants:

  • QB - All set
  • RB - They seem fairly happy here. No visitors/interest that I can remember. Maybe they look at a Velton Gardner break-glass-in-case-of-emergency type guy.
  • WR - Definitely seems like they'd take another badass with experience. Wouldn't everyone?
  • TE - Likely done with Endries?
  • OL - Flood doesn't seem like a portal guy, and we're looking at a huge high school class, so I don't see it.
  • IDL - Gotta be done with 5(!) additions from the portal so far.
  • EDGE - I could definitely see it. We brought in the Stanford guy for a visit. Would have to be someone they think can contribute.
  • LB - This one I'm not sure. Seems like Spence is getting good reviews. Depth chart is a little light in underclassmen though. If the right guy came along that had a few years to play like Watson, seems like it'd make sense.
  • DB - I wouldn't think so unless it's a guy that's just too good to pass up. The depth chart is stacked and crowded.
  • P - Done
  • K - Done

Thoughts?

They moved Niblett back to offense (RB/WR/return guy), so that may be it there.

I try not to clown on people because we all say some dumb shit sometimes but if you even spent 30 seconds googling "Lagway surgery" you would see a bunch of articles from the last week and a half talking about him exploring surgery so he can be ready in time for the season.

I'd be suprised if we don't add another WR (unless Parker Livingston is a 750 yards / year lock). Wingo / Moore / Mosely is nice but thin.

And if you actually read those articles, you would see that any surgery now would make him miss the entire season. Which is why he chose not to do one. Maybe the reason you don’t clown on people is because you’d be terrible at it.

The NCAA just declared Livingston only eligible to play in 6 games this year because he creates an unfair competitive advantage when on the field.

I'm one of the last few that still listens to Jim Rome, and I just heard an interview with Syracuse coach Fran Brown. He's a breath of fresh air because there's no coach speak with him, but I think he just implied Sark or someone on our staff engaged in some dirty pool to get Maraad Watson.

The question about him being happy for Maraad getting paid starts around the 41 minute mark:

I don't even know why it's even discussed.  It's just the way it is.  Much like the free agent period in the NFL where guys are inking deals the minute negotiations are allowed to begin.  No one is trying to enforce anything.  Agents are there to do agent things.

They're done unless a true elite all american type just happens to jump in for whatever reason.

Or a deep threat 4.3 type receiver

They didn’t scour the CFP landscape and say “man, this Watson guy up in Syracuse is a must get!”

Fran Brown wants it to be one way, but it’s the other. The player’s agent called around to all of the big brands and checked interest. Then serious conversations were had.

Sorry that Syracuse is poor. I feel super bad for two of the biggest huckster bagmen of the pre-NIL era in Brown and Robinson. Fuck those grifting gasbags.

There is going to be more attrition from the Texas roster, planned for, and people will hand wring. I’m not saying there couldn’t be a surprise or two that is a net negative, but barring that, a few guys are still likely to leave and that will be obvious and according to plan.

There is still a good shot of a few more additions, and at least one could be another really big deal on several levels. Some of this might not conform to the portal window timeline, which should be fun on the boards as well.

The idea of "tampering" is laughable.  These kids have agents, and their agents are doing what they're supposed to be doing-- shopping their clients for better deals.  It is highly unlikely Texas was the only school in discussions with his agent.   If we were, then he should fire his agent.

6? He'll hit 750 yds by halftime of game 3.

You’d assume Aaron Butler is halfway out the door after Bobby Burton called him out the other day, something Burton rarely does.

He’s for sure one that should be on the radar. Like I said, if it’s kind of obvious, it’s not something people on this board should feel is unplanned. Not saying we have to agree with the staff on it.

If something is a “whoa!!” for you and you don’t think you’re one of the board idiots, then that is something different. There are no current worries in that regard, btw.
