April 24Apr 24 Guy that there were rumors we were trying to bring on a visit And man, this dude seemed can't-miss out of high school. Sounds like he was injured last year, but still tough.
April 24Apr 24 17 hours ago, tokamak said: So just to kind of sum up where we're at with portal needs/wants: QB - All set RB - They seem fairly happy here. No visitors/interest that I can remember. Maybe they look at a Velton Gardner break-glass-in-case-of-emergency type guy. WR - Definitely seems like they'd take another badass with experience. Wouldn't everyone? TE - Likely done with Endries? OL - Flood doesn't seem like a portal guy, and we're looking at a huge high school class, so I don't see it. IDL - Gotta be done with 5(!) additions from the portal so far. EDGE - I could definitely see it. We brought in the Stanford guy for a visit. Would have to be someone they think can contribute. LB - This one I'm not sure. Seems like Spence is getting good reviews. Depth chart is a little light in underclassmen though. If the right guy came along that had a few years to play like Watson, seems like it'd make sense. DB - I wouldn't think so unless it's a guy that's just too good to pass up. The depth chart is stacked and crowded. P - Done K - Done Thoughts? Just to update this, Bobby said this morning (posted by ctj in the Archmania thread) that a transfer CB is unlikely because they like Kobe Black.

What he really meant to say is that they're loaded with talent, but they lack experience, at CB. Bringing someone in over the top of the guys in that room wasn't going to do the roster any favors and it isn't particularly merited. What they'll be fielding in the fall is highly likely to be better than the UH CB.

I read that as specific to CB....but the safety room is pretty thin especially with Derrick Williams coming off that midseason ACL tear.

I read that as specific to CB....but the safety room is pretty thin especially with Derrick Williams coming off that midseason ACL tear. Things are moving philosophically with Akina onboard. There are numerous guys moving around in the secondary and getting reps at multiple positions, as I understand it. I don't think there is a sense that they can improve upon what they have in the room by doing anything in the portal. Texas has 9 guys that have gotten reps at Safety + Jonah Williams. Taaffe is a returning AA, McDonald and Derek Williams have that potential. They like the younger guys too. This doesn't even include Santana Wilson, who could looks at Safety and Nickel if they need to keep him away from the portal next year. WR and OL are the only two spots to watch unless either Texas loses a key guy at another position, or a guy enters the portal that everyone feels they have to go after.
April 24Apr 24 If Butler portals, that's seven scholarship WRs by my count. Is that right? Well, I guess eight if you count Niblett there.
April 24Apr 24 Author 6 minutes ago, Red Five said: If Butler portals, that's seven scholarship WRs by my count. Is that right? Well, I guess eight if you count Niblett there. Niblett is more of a Scatback/RB3 type than true WR at this point. I'll be pretty surprised if Niblett and Butler are each still on the roster by Monday. They don't seem to want Niblett to leave, but they don't know what to do with him, either. Butler, seems like what they want to do with him is to have him stand in just the right spot in Sarkisian's office, just as one of Sarkisian's minions pulls the trapdoor lever, hidden behind a two-way mirror in the next room. I would not be surprised if the number is 8 heading into the fall, with part of that being a new guy that is an instant starter who enables you and the others that have been squatting to pee about the WR room to pull yourselves together and stand up straight once again.

Is it a philosophical change, a perceived hole that needs to be filled, someone who is too talented to pass on?

April 24Apr 24 Author Spoilered below is a half-hearted article by the Aggie 247 staff. Earnest Campbell, the tiny speedster that they touted as the next Bullet Bob Hayes, is now in the portal. Their WR room is down one more midget with wheels, and no one of size or merit heading in as a replacement. They're also bringing in JAG from FCS at LB. The minute he commits, commands for tape-watching will commence as The Elk continues to do work. Not productive work, mind you, but that fatass is undeniably working on something. Anything. Surely? Spoiler The Texas A&M football team has another opportunity to improve its roster through the transfer portal, which opened for a 10-day window on April 16. Follow along here for real-time news and analysis around the Aggies and their portal endeavors. Carter Karels19 hrs114 The Texas A&M football team has another opportunity to improve its roster through the transfer portal, which opened for a 10-day window Wednesday (April 16-25). Follow along in this article and the comment section to receive real-time news and analysis around the Aggies and their incoming transfer commitments, outgoing portal entries, extended scholarship offers, recruiting visits and more. Earlier this offseason, A&M filled most of its roster holes through the 20-day winter portal window. The Aggies added 14 scholarship transfers, though one of them, former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson, lasted less than a month on campus and left the team. This time, A&M lacks as many glaring position needs. The Aggies are more crunched on scholarship space now, too. Entering the start of the spring portal window, A&M held a projected unofficial scholarship count of 88 (not counting Hudson) for the 2025 season. It is worth noting, though, the Aggies should have some natural roster attrition through the spring portal window and potential medical retirements. Additionally, A&M will not need to meet the SEC-mandated scholarship limit of 85 until its fall semester begins on Aug. 25. Below is a running list of players the Aggies added and subtracted from the portal during the spring window. Later in this article, GigEm247 writers Carter Karels, Jeff Tarpley and Andrew Hattersley will give their analysis on each incoming and outgoing A&M transfer. GigEm247 also examined the remaining needs for the Aggies ahead of the spring portal window, which can be found here. Coming to A&M via the portal No commitments yet. Leaving A&M via the portal 1. WR Micah Hudson (April 16, 2025) – ? 2. WR Ernest Campbell (April 23, 2025) - Transfers who reported a scholarship offer from the Aggies No reported offers yet. Expected portal visitors 1. Missouri State LB Michael Teason Leaving the Aggies: WR Micah Hudson (Photo: John E. Moore III, Getty) Date he entered the portal: April 16, 2025. Landing spot: Not yet announced. Seasons of eligibility remaining: Three. 2024 stats: Appeared in eight games with one start at Texas Tech. Recorded eight receptions for 123 yards. Career stats: Appeared in eight games with one start in one season (2024) with the Red Raiders. Recorded eight receptions for 123 yards. Quick takeaway: As a former five-star recruit, Hudson inspired optimism when transferring to the Aggies over the winter. But he lasted less than a month at A&M before abruptly leaving the team and dropping out of the school. Perhaps only time will tell how his departure will age for himself and the Aggies. For now, though, Hudson raises some red flags and still has a lot to prove as a college player. – Carter Karels Leaving the Aggies: WR Ernest Campbell (Photo: Ernest Campbell) Date he entered the portal: April 22, 2025. Landing spot: Not yet announced. Seasons of eligibility remaining: Four. 2024 stats: Campbell did redshirted his freshman season and did not play. Career stats: Campbell did redshirted his freshman season and did not play. Quick takeaway: A four-star coming out of high school, Campbell brought a lot of speed to the table having won the Texas Class 2A 100 meter title with a time of 10.22 seconds. Despite his blistering speed, Campbell is undersized and there was an understanding heading into college he was going to need time to add mass. With the emergence of Ashton Bethel-Roman, Terry Bussey and Izaiah Williams to go along with newcomers Mario Craver and KC Concepcion impressing early on, it was going to be difficult for Campbell to crack the receiver rotation and best for him to seek out opportunities elsewhere. -Andrew Hattersley Spoiler The Texas A&M football team has another opportunity to improve its roster through the transfer portal, which opened for a 10-day window on April 16.
