I consider TE a developmental position, and all we have returning are risky at best. Klare would provide a solid floor for the position.

How is he as a blocker?

I watched too much Purdue football this year for any sane person to admit to. It seemed like nobody on that team was good at blocking. Ha.

That said, Klare seemed to be the best offensive player on that team.

He, the safety, and the punter are definitely worth talking to.

Moore’s camp has told Bobby Burton that Trey Moore is returning to Texas. Nothing set in stone, but that would be a big deal, IMO.

Can the 9.95ers please make up their mind whether Cole Brevard is on campus today or not.  I need to know the truth.

Have any kickers of note been mentioned as possibly visiting Texas?

I know people on here are keen to land a punter, but I feel like a reliable kicker is much more important.

We didn't lose any games because of Kern, but you could argue that Bert cost us the SEC championship.

Kern ranks 132nd in Net punting nationally. That has been the weakest part of the team from the moment the ball kicked off against Colorado State.

I don’t say that to excuse Auburn but at least he is perfect from 40 and in. All his misses are from 40+.

This is already one of the best defenses in the country. How much better would they have been if our opponents field position was 4-5 yards worse on average. We also only had 7 punts land inside the 20 this year which is abysmal. Sanborn last year had 15.

Hey man, we have them Hudson Card, what else do they want from us?

I get that, but I'd argue punters are the least valuable players on the team.  Kern's averaging like 5 yards less in net average than the guys we're targeting.  Plus he was injured, and only been on campus 5 months.  I think he still has a shot to be really good with a full off-season.

That's not to say I don't think we should find a veteran punter in the portal in the meantime.

But kickers are often the highest scorers on the team, so I consider them a higher priority.

Hell, if you put a gun to my head I'm not sure I could name 5 punters ...college and pro combined.

Branch from USC might be a must-have. He was absolutely electric his freshman year especially on returns. Not sure what happened this year but I think Sark’s system is what he needs

Maybe you should figure out what happened this year before declaring him a must-have

I don’t know if you are intentionally trolling or not but Branch fucking sucks as a WR. His route tree is one deep and he is a one trick pony.

I know it's not an either or, but I'd rather see Niblett get those opportunities than Branch

He’ll take them if they change their names to Modelo and Dos Equis.

Don't you remember the Texas Bowl vs Missouri? Dickson was the unironic MVP.

I always wondered why directional kicking to aim at the sidelines between the 5 yard line was never a thing, but I always admit when I don't know anything and punting/kicking is one of them.

I do; it was his freshman year as well ...but if memory serves, he turned out to be pretty good

Okay, come on. The weakest parts of the team have been red zone QB’ing and K beyond 40. We are weakest at the two key fucking places you cannot be against quality opponents. There isn’t a fucking person on this board going into the Clemson game ranking P above those two issues. If someone is doing that, they haven’t been paying attention. We need a blowout to de-risk this motherfucker every game forward.

Yep, strategy would be to bring in a 1,000 guys with my staying power ...she'd be done by lunch.

Agree with all this. Most good punters suck their first year and then make big jumps over the next couple. Just look at the Utah and Purdue guy's first year avg - Kern is just as good as either were. Both of those guys improved around 5 yards the next year. Dickson was the same. Considering Kern's injury and his summer arrival, no reason to think he won't improve.

With that said, it makes sense to have 2 punters now that numbers don't matter, so might as well bring in a veteran while Kern develops / in case he doesn't.

Oh, I was thinking he was being sarcastic, about one of his bad games.  Was it the game against Cal that he basically lost singlehandedly?

OU is down so bad. JV coaching staff.

Last I checked he's making $700K per year to no longer coach at his alma mater and coach at OU... so... money it is....he chose poorly

Both USC and Florida On3 mods said Keeshawn Silver (Kentucky DT transfer) is asking for 7 figures. Florida apparently offered him well below that so it might come down to USC vs Michigan.

I agree that chasing Branch probably isn't worth it, but I think he's more explosive in the screen game than anyone on our roster. His highlights pop. He's real fast. That being said, he's probably too one dimensional.

Don’t love it, but feel like with our DT situation Bear might be a real possibility. How was he this year, mediocre as usual?

He literally quit on the team. I don’t want that fuckwit anywhere near Texas.

Alexander had a great season in 2023 where he recorded 47 tackles for the Trojans, so the hype surrounding him heading into the 2024 season was very high. But after the Trojans’ third game of this season, he opted to sit the rest of the year to preserve his redshirt so he could transfer this offseason.

You might be thinking of the 2015 Okie State game, where he botched the deep snap late in the game.  But we had problems other than Dickson in that game -- the refs being at the top of that list.
