Damn, I really liked having him on the roster. Set a solid floor for the DE position and was just a great kid all around. Is he ready to graduate? I thought he wanted to be a doctor and didn't have NFL aspirations.

And yeah, his mom has been awesome this whole time.

Correct. We stuffed his ass.

Who gives up on players after only 1 year? What does that say about your ability to evaluate or develop?

They’re definitely getting him. But they have no skill guys, the OL will continue to deteriorate, and their handful of defensive difference makers are all being tampered with by teams with deeper pockets

It's funny - it's not as pathetic as sending the university president up to get Sterlin Gilbert, but they're basically doing the equivalent by ensuring he goes there by hiring his OC and QB coach.

Literally tailoring the OC/QB coach for one specific transfer while ignoring that they have basically no OL, WR or RB talent.

I bet they lose the FR QB who played this year.

They haven’t had a success story HS-developed QB since Bradford. Might as well just reinstall the entire offense around a transfer QB annually

This would be a huge pick up for us. Starter from day 1, add him to the RB room with Trey and Gibson, bring Baxter along slowly, plus the Freshmen.  Assuming Blue goes pro.  I think we need a back in the portal given the current ceiling/injury status of guys on campus.

I can’t figure out which Scrooge is my favorite. I really like the classic George C. Scott version from the early 80’s. Then there’s Mickey’s Christmas Carol. I played Ebenezer in that version in 5th grade. Scrooged is really well done and Bill Murray is excellent. Then there’s Spirited, which I highly recommend.

No Albert Finney? Good afternoon!

Georgia or Ole Miss got Haynes in to the portal I bet.

I guess I don’t understand what the argument is. Is it- this degree is worth an easy show up job in big time corporate America or is it- this should be pretty easy to monetize a little fame into a comfortable 6 figure living if you played but didn’t star at UT?
I think anyone that played and had a modicum of name recognition at UT should be set for 6 figures a year for life trading on that fame if they aren’t a screw up (mortgage, real estate, insurance, car sales, regular run of the mill sales, coaching football at the high school level etc) but those are jobs you actually have to do to get that money, even if the fame gets you in the door and the opportunity. And when I say fame I don’t mean VY level fame or even chance mock level fame, I’m talking Beau Trahan type fame. Tucker Dorsey seems like a good analog. 1 year for UT. Played a decent amount, was known, but not even a starter. He got recruited in personally to Keller Williams, went on some pods where he got advertised and I’m sure he’s doing ok. I’d think any kind of professional services/sales job would be like that for a Texas athlete. Thats my world and what I’d do if an athlete wanted entry to that. I know you have a ton of irons in the fire and I’d assume you would do similar for anyone that had interest in one of your worlds, right?
Beyond that I don’t understand what people are trying to say.  Being quasi famous, even when narrowcasting, is obviously a good thing for a lot of jobs/opportunities/places.

I’ve had friends work with well-known former Longhorn football stars at fairly menial jobs over the years. Certainly nowhere close to 6 figures. Could those guys have done better? Probably, but it’s a thing.

George C Scott is by far and away my favorite.  I like Mickey's, and the old black and white one with Alaistar Simm is good.  Scrooged is a good laugh, the Patrick Stewart one isn't bad, the animated Jim Carrey one is creepy.  The Man who invented Christmas is the only one I can get my wife to watch with me, she thinks the others are too creepy.

I’m here for Miami driving up the price on Mateer to the point where OU can’t afford to build a roster around him.

Why wouldn’t those teams listed in the fake tweet that were interested in Quinn not be interested in Mateer also?

Or not drop passes

Tearing down to the studs can work if 1) the studs contain some elite talent that can determine the outcome of a game (QB, D-Line, O-Line), and 2) the school has a war chest to buy some elite talent in the portal.
I don't think OU can check either of these boxes.
This is really going to hurt for OU.

That’s what Charlie tried to do by dismissing all the “malcontents”. This will end well. lol

In our search for portal DT's may I suggest a theme song?

Finkley was undersized, and we all knew it at the time, but he was a good kid with a good work ethic and he did in fact provide quality depth for us. He played, he just wasn’t going to start with the talent we have at edge.

We take 25-30 HS kids every year, they can’t all start. Doesn’t mean they didn’t get developed any.

Which offensive players are available to play in the bowl game for the Sooners?

James D Jackson (OU 247)

The departures in the transfer portal for the Oklahoma Sooners have been plentiful over this past week. Although many of the transfers weren't surprising as the Sooners look to rebuild an offense that was one of the worst in college football, they still have a bowl game to prepare for. So, with the offensive side of the ball seeing a lot of action, here's who's on the roster as of Friday morning.

QUARTERBACK
Oklahoma has had two departures in this position group: Jackson Arnold, a former 5-star who started most of the season, and Brendan Zurbrugg, who never saw the field for Oklahoma.

That leaves Michael Hawkins Jr., Casey Thompson and walk-on quarterback Steele Wasel. Hawkins Jr. played in six games for the Sooners, starting in three, while Thompson has had a long college football career in many different roles.

RUNNING BACK
Despite multiple outgoing transfers, the running back room hasn't lost any players who made contributions to this past season. Kalib Hicks, Emeka Megwa, and Chapman McKown.

That leaves Jovantae Barnes, Gavin Sawchuk, Xavier Robinson, Taylor Tatum, Sam Franklin, Andy Bass and Gabe Sawchuk as the available running backs for the bowl game. Barnes, Gav. Sawchuck, Taylor Tatum, Robinson and Franklin have all been in the rotation at some point in the season.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
For the group that has to block for the running backs and likely Michael Hawkins Jr. in the bowl game, it will be more of the group that finished out the season for the Sooners. Oklahoma started multiple groups to start the season as they battled injuries but eventually found a five they liked in the end: Those five are still on the roster.

The Sooners have only had four offensive linemen enter the portal and two of them were transfers such as Ty Kubicek and Evan McClure. Joshua Bates and Gerean Hatchett are the only scholarship offensive linemen that have officially entered.

That leaves Branson Hickman, Troy Everett, Febechi Nwaiwu, Eddy Pierre-Louis, Eugene Brooks, Gunnar Allen, Spencer Brown, Kenneth Wermy, Michael Tarquin, Logan Howland, Josh Aisosa, Isaiah Autry-Dent, Daniel Akinkunmi, Jacob Sexton, Heath Ozaeta and Jake Taylor. – Obviously, only healthy players will be suitable to play.

TIGHT END
The tight end room lost its most productive piece this season. Bauer Sharp was this season's leading pass catcher for the Sooners, with just over 300 yards. He, along with Joshual Fanuiel, a walk-on who left the team earlier in the season, officially entered the transfer portal.

That leaves Jake Roberts, Kaden Helms, Davon Mitchell, Hampton Fay, and Kade McIntryre as the Sooners' available tight ends. Roberts was a main contributor for the Sooners this season. Although, it'll be a new face beside him for the bowl game to replace Sharp.

WIDE RECEIVER
The wide receiver unit has been most affected by the transfer portal. But that has been an issue for Oklahoma all season as many of the starters did not play due to injury. The room has seen Jalil Farooq, Nic Anderson, Andrel Anthony, J.J. Hester, Jaquaize Pettaway, and Brenen Thompson enter the transfer portal. Of those players, only Thompson and Hester were main contributors to the offense this season as they others have battled injuries.

That leaves Deion Burks, Jayden Gibson, Zion Ragins, Jacob Jordan, Zion Kearney, KJ Daniels, Ivan Carreon, Major Melson, Trey Brown, and Eli Merck as the available receivers. Burks, Jordan, Ragins, Kearney and Carreon have had their fair share of playing time this season. Gibson has been out for the year and will not play.

Finkley is a strong kid, reportedly brilliant and a hard worker, just not blessed with much natural explosion, flexibility, quickness, bend, etc., that help players in that role succeed at the highest levels (in. which we participate). Others have passed him on the depth chart.

What he represented at the time of his recruitment was a beacon call to the powers that be in the southeast that Texas would recruit top players in that area and could win them. His family is top notch, and our message of future success and a strong positive culture resonated with them, and we won his recruitment.  Smart people saw our promise.

I’m quite gruntled Dr. Finkley is still saying good things about us, as it confirms they aligned with the right people: it just didn’t work out optimally, and it’s best for Justice to give it a shot elsewhere. I suspect we’ll all be rooting for him.
