January 4Jan 4 The guy's historic production coupled with UNC's "development" of its defensive players suggests he may not be a serious contributor.

January 4Jan 4 Shaw is built like Albert Haynesworth, but to date in his career he’s played like the unmotivated Haynesworth and there hasn’t been much of the Big Bert who would show up to play his home state South Carolina while at Tennessee, or in his contract year with the Titans that got him the big deal with Washington. Early on in this season, his third year in college, he wasn’t even starting. That Chapelboro article above makes it look like the light may have finally come on for him, and if so, he’d be a great addition to this defense next year.

Coaches love "I can fix him, I'm a better coach than the other guy" approach. And hey, sometimes they're absolutely correct.

That’s great, since we’d only be having him for the contract year.

He was locked into Cal and was set to sign and supposedly, Cal's current QB called him the night before and talked shit. Pissed off, he surprised everyone, including Oregon coaches, by signing with Oregon the next morning. Mendoza then promptly leaves Cal (why the fan base hates his guts now- leave if you want but fuck you for sabotaging on your way out) and JKS is in Oregon. Now Mendoza is gone and Cal has been backchannelling to have him come in anyways as a transfer. Oregon is spinning it that he saw the competition in Eugene and is leaving for Cal because he will start but Cal is getting a 2nd portal QB because they only have 2 QBs on scholarship currently and they both suck so it is not 100% guaranteed they hand him the ball day 1 (Devin Brown is being whispered about as the other guy). Did he see the Oregon QB room and decide to leave? Maybe. But Cal is "supposedly" where he wanted to go so its not a huge surprise if he goes back. All allegedly, of course. I can't remember what recruiting channel I saw this on but someone was saying Sagapolutele stated he was not given enough attention/not made a priority during practice for Oregon's playoff game. How accurate that is is hard to know of course. These days with no NLI and no penalties you never know what's going to happen with these kids. Call can them flakey or call them prudent. Both, maybe.

January 4Jan 4 Shaw looks like a more motivated and less overweight version of Sydir Mitchell. Probably fills in for Norton

January 5Jan 5 Kentucky is gonna be ASS. Some of these guys just want money and to play a lot, on a crappy team

Well, you see, Bert doesn't have anywhere close to that kind of leg, but he makes up for it with a lack of accuracy. And also being unable to handle kickoffs. You have a choice between two women. One is a 10, but you’re not a 10 yourself, so you’ll rarely get laid and have to watch her fuck other guys. The other is a 7, but will put out every night and you’ll be the only one fucking her.

January 5Jan 5 Yeah, I'm sure it's been discussed before but I wonder/worry that the shorter portal window will lead to more fuckery about holding on to coordinators until the window is closed knowing full well they'll be fired once time has elapsed. When the portal was open longer, the school would have to sit on the lame duck coordinator for longer but now it seems pretty reasonable to "take 2 weeks" to decide about the future of a coach. In the interim, it locks in any player who would have left if their coach left and gives the new coordinator until April to try to keep them in the boat.
January 5Jan 5 How likely is it that any of the teams who are still playing have guys who will get in the portal within five days of their last game, yet the coaching staff doesn’t know it yet?

January 5Jan 5 Quick update for the 3 people here who care about Purdue football (3 might be an exaggeration). I will not address their losses too much, other than that 3 QBs are out (Card - graduated, Davila - Nebraska, Browne - UNC), DT Brevard to Texas, Safety Thieneman to Oregon, TE Klare to tOSU. 3 QB in: Evans Chuba (Wash State, #79 QB in 2024 class), EJ Colson (UCF, #64 QB in 2024 class), Malachi Singleton (Arkansas, #17 QB in 2023 class) 7 UNLV transfers, composed of Starting CB and LT, 2nd team TE and LB, and some other folks who red-shirted. 3 Arkansas transfers: QB noted above, and what appears to be a couple of JAG LBs. 1 JAG WR from USC (Charles Ross - Grad transfer) A handful of UNLV commits changed to Purdue. Still optimistic, as I believe Odom and staff will be superior to Walters and his staff. However, talent-wise: OUT >>> IN
