January 6Jan 6 After what Baker has done with Collins and Vernon, you have to like this pickup. Collins is a solid 2nd round pick and Broughton is a 4th. Who the fuck could have guessed that in 2023?
January 6Jan 6 Thinking maybe we at least kick the tires on Anthony Evans from UGA. Converse kid who changed his mind a few times before ending up in Athens for a couple seasons. Not a ton of production there, but 10.3 speed doesn't grow on trees. https://www.si.com/college/georgia/news/anthony-evans-signs-with-georgia

I think the jury is still out on whether Baker is a better than average developer, but making sure you have a four deep of 4th and 5th year players with a decent baseline of talent is a good way to get credit for it.

That’s a no for me dog. Baker is a helluva a coach.

Exactly. Especially with the way those kinds of players have been automatically getting better at Texas as they get older.
January 6Jan 6 Popular Post got info back from close close source about trey Moore. don't know if anyone cares but he supposedly is leaning to come back to school. if he goes off these last 2 games and raises his grade he'll go. but he's leaning to play his last year at Texas if possible.

I would love to have him back, but prefer he go off the next two games, help lead us to an NC, and get drafted.

I agree with others that we need at least two more 3 techs. January can still get good snaps next year.
January 6Jan 6 I’m sure Mack Brown told Shaw Texas would be a good move so that Mack could screw over his former employer. On brand.
January 6Jan 6 I never really understood our interest in Marvin Jones Jr., so the fact he ended up at OU seems like a win because he hasn't been a good player.

Watch the Mack interview with Bobby on OTF. He and Sally are moving back to Austin and he's going to be a part of whatever Sark wants him to be a part of with this program going forward. Or so he says. Said at this point in his life he's the same age DKR was in 1998 when Mack arrived and he wants to give back like DKR did to him. Mack's a politician though, so we shall see.

Is the jury still out? Our top 4 guys all improved over the course of the season. Broughton has been a big surprise, Collins is consistently playing up to his potential, Norton and Lole were shaky early on, but play better just about every week. Heck, Baker got some decent snaps out of Sydir Mitchell. Bledsoe and Bryant didn't work out. My understanding is Bledsoe just wasn't big enough. I'm not sure about Bryant. The biggest question marks at this point are January and Hills.

I think they’ve performed pretty admirably beginning with CSU even if they didn’t rack up a lot of counting stats. How do you parse out the credit between four years with Davis and one with Baker? Frankly, given the bust rate of even high four and five stars prospects, I’m not sure what the standard for evaluation should be, aside from the obvious (coaching three or more year players into NFL draft picks). One might be success recruiting the four and fifth year senior transfers using UT as a finishing school for the NFL, as they are presumably evaluating programs for developmental acumen (and depth chart) rather than a pure NIL auction.

Broughton looked like a total bust two seasons ago and played extremely well this year. Collins was noticeably better and consistent this year. Yes, Baker did extremely well this year on player development.

January 6Jan 6 This polysemous thread title has me perplexed. I don’t know whether to feel triumphant, fearful, or stupid.
January 6Jan 6 Popular Post Bobby Burton Texas continues to use the portal smartly. Last night, former UNC defensive lineman Travis Shaw announced his pledge to Texas. Shaw, who is 6-foot-5, 335 pounds, has played three seasons for the Tar Heels, logging 300+ snaps this season, his best campaign yet in Chapel Hill. The former five-star prospect will fill a key hole for Texas next year, and that’s playing over the nose of the ball, similar to fellow portal transfer Cole Brevard from Purdue. Shaw gives the Horns four pledges from the portal overall this winter, and all four are starter-level players. Adding these level of players to an already strong roster will only reinforce the idea that Texas should be highly competitive in the SEC yet again next season. I suspect Texas will still go after at least two more DTs in the portal, as well as a WR and perhaps a kicker. ** In texting with someone on the former UNC staff this morning, Shaw had not previously lived up to his five-star billing for two reasons: “health/weight”. But… “both were better this year.” A healthier Shaw, similar to a healthier Jermayne Lole this season, could be just what the doctor ordered for the Longhorns’ defensive front in 2025. The difference being Shaw has immense upside compared to Lole. If it clicks for Shaw, he could be a top three-round draft pick. And the last word: Travis Shaw and Cole Brevard are MAJOR additions for Texas. If there’s one position Texas must absolutely score on in the portal, it’s at defensive tackle, and in particular, guys with the size to line up over the center. January 6Jan 6 Coffee hasn't fully kicked in yet. So my first thought was, "John Wick follows Texas football?"

He torpedoed the program on his way out the door, leading us to the worst period of Texas Football. That is his Legacy.

Get the fuck outta here with that shit.
January 6Jan 6 I wonder if all the people Mack is such dear friends with know that they are such dear friends.
