I upgraded a few times for the Nashville show in ‘22 and ended up with this with minimal effort. I was solo though.

Have you ever seen them play Just Breathe live?

Six times and probably 2 or 3 more at Eddie solo shows. A favorite of my wife.

One of my favorites as well, just doesn't seem to pop up that often live

This is my favorite version. Love the strings.

Did I say that I need you?

Did I say that I want you?

Oh if I didn't, I'm a fool you see /

No one knows this more than me ... as I come clean.

That song is a gut punch, and one of my top-5 favorite songs ever. Tell the people you love that you love them. Every chance you get.

Favorite band ever. Buddy across the street had the Ten CD when it came out, and made me a copy onto cassette, which I then proceeded to play until it broke. For whatever reason, he didn't copy Release, so like ten years later I 'discovered' this brand new song at the end of my favorite album, and was dumbstruck lol.

Bought every album religiously through Avocado, then sort of fell out of love with their experimentalism. Which I understand was a weird time to draw that line, since I was largely fine with Vitalogy and No Code lol.  I've never seen them play live until my wife surprised me with ACL tickets in 2009. I need to go spend some time with Backspacer, Lightning Bolt, and Gigaton. Dark Matter is growing on me, but I'm not sure i'll ever lose the desire to hear both guitars wailing at once on some arena-grunge-rock tunes, like when I was 15.

BTW, their best song is SOLAT. Specifically, the arrangement from Unplugged.

That's a great song.  To piggyback on @capnamerca's comments, Pearl Jam is far from my favorite band ever, BUT when they get it right (for me) holy crap do they get it right.  "Just Breathe" is a perfect example.  I don't much like Eddie's yarling, but on that song he just sings, and he has such a rich, beautiful baritone timbre, he's really one of the greats, no pitch issues, nothing.  Just simple, perfect singing.  And then every once in awhile the band locks in and just gets it all right and melts your face -- "Even Flow", "Spin The Black Circle", etc.

I'm glad this band came along.

Daughter. Footsteps. Last Kiss. Given to Fly. Dude can absolutely sing.

schlocky acoustic pearl jam is the worst pearl jam. give me the anger.

Next June will be the 10 year anniversary of when the mom across the street from us died from cancer. Mid 30s, 2 kids aged 5 and 7. Just awful.

At her funeral her husband played "Just Breathe" with a slide show of her and her family. I can't hear that song without being taken back to that moment and hearing the sobbing from the crowd. I'm welling up right now thinking about it.

Eddie is 60 today in case y’all were feeling young.

I'm pushing 50 and have been listening to him since I was about 15, so that actually seems young for him.

Well this really kicked my ass this morning.  What a great song, and I love epic endings.

If this is the last song they ever recorded, it would be a perfect ending.

I love the warts and all approach to recording live in the studio.  Ironically, it's often the baby bands who benefit most, but obviously a seasoned band like PJ can make great art that way.  Wilco does that a lot as well.  Things just seem to hang together better.

the fan 2 fan tickets for this tour are just not popping up the same as last tour. every time i see a pair they're gone by the time i click on them. hopefully more action as we get closer.

Hell yes.

I love seeing Stone gettin’ it.

wish they would put more riot act songs in their sets. i seem to be in the minority that really loves that album. all or none is one of my favorite pj songs, hope i hear them play it one day.

1 week until nashville. i've upgraded from nosebleeds to the 200 level, still hoping something in the lower deck becomes available.

Good interview.

I might be making this up, but I think @Beau Vine lived in the same apartment complex with one of the PJ guys in the early 90's.  Confirm?

No, but a friend of mine lives next door to Mike McCready.  Here's his back deck:

Matt Cameron is stepping away from the band.

Damn. Top 5 rock drummer of the last 40 years.

I was pretty shocked to get the email but I went back and watched Ledbetter from the last show of the tour and it seems pretty obvious they all knew it was his last show.

yeah pretty sure they knew going into the tour that it would be his last. 27 years is a good run. i know lots of fans thought his style never fit the band that well, i don't completely agree with that but he's far from my favorite pj drummer.

Go get Dave A. back.

🙂

I've long thought that Matt's drumming style and personality was key to Pearl Jam's longevity. He always came across as super consistent, reliable, and professional, which is essentially a requirement for a band known for long live shows and a massive studio catalogue.

Keep seeing the thought that he’s going to the Foos. Realistic?

I have no inside info and could easily be wrong, but this really does feel like he’s simply hanging it up for good. He’s been on the scene for almost 40 years and just seems to be ready to retire from the grind of touring and being in the studio creating new music.

doesn't make any sense to me that he would leave Pearl Jam and head to the Foo's but I suppose anything is possible.

Yeah, I don’t see that either. Historically that’s a lot more touring.

he was also one of the people in that rolling stone article after taylor hawkins' death who essentially blamed grohl for the rigorous touring schedule. he claimed he was misquoted but i doubt that gained him any good standing in the foo's camp. i think it's extremely unlikely he joins that band.
