Of course she’s the new conservative super villain.  She may prove to suck, but hell, she hasn’t even taken office yet.

But beyond that, AOC is an everywoman who managed to unseat a political untouchable.  The very embodiment of a goverment by the people for the people.  A woman who, against the odds, enforced term limits the old fashioned way.  She’s not moneywhipped by special interests, is pugnacious as fuck and not backing down after the opposition has singled her out for attack.  She’s a newborn politician who still has a chance.

Compare that to Trump, whose man-of-the-people schtick is ludicrous and self-serving.  Whose narcissistic self-interests are more tempting and dangerous than any special interest rainmaker.  Whose populist uprising had to be nurtured by the Kremlin.  Whose ham-handed bungling is superseded only by their criminal malfeasance as a politician.

For someone (or a party) all-in on Trump, AOC would be an awfully uncomfortable mirror to look at.

She's getting it from her own party too. One of my good friends is the brother of Nate McMurray, the D who lost in a deep red upstate district to the alleged insider-trading Chris Collins, who may well be imprisoned in his first term. Anyway, my buddy tells me that the main guard NY D machine that tried to torpedo Nate's campaign in the primary are doing their level best to undermine her on the downlow.

Fucking stupid. She's the future of the universe.

Anyone else find it really funny that ChickenShit stays out of every thread but this one? Those beatings must have really hurt, boy.

What a stupid suggestion.  Yes, let's see if we can somehow skirt the "must be 35 years old" rule regarding POTUS and try to elect someone who would be 31 on 1/20/2021.  That's a good use of resources.

Wooooweee, the Trumpkins are OBSESSEDDDDDDDDD with her.

She must be living right.

Rules for thee, not for me.

Rules for thee, not for me.

Holding anyone in opposition to Trumpism to standards that you’ve completely abandoned in support of your Orange god. Y’all are adorable, and oh so predictable.

Either there are basic rules of logic, decorum, and decency (and if there are, Trump and his sycophants utterly fail those standards, and deserve ZERO support), or there aren’t, and we’re not playing by ANY fucking rules anymore.

Choose one. You can’t choose both.

If you want to apply those standard to AOC, I cheer you. Because it 100% means that you must oppose Trump and the Trump GOP.

Yet, I know that’s not true. One standard for thee, not for me indeed. The irony is rich.

"One standard for thee, not for me indeed."

Brisket, I read that in the voice of the Bridge Guardian from MP and the Holy Grail.

Fuck, now I gotta sift thru my DVDs.

You’ve literally gone psychotic.

I’ve repeatedly stated Trump is a buffoon.

Irony is those who decry Trumps lack of decorum instantly snapping to insults and labeling of anyone who doesn’t sniff the farts left wing politicians.

Nope, you seem psychotic, though. There's a degree of corruption and dysfunction in our government that posing a legitimate existential threat to our stability and prosperity. Every single comment you post here seems designed to distract others from that threat. Are you so sure that you're not in the blast radius of the damage that the GOP and Trump are heaping on this country?

In addition to feeling like a daily PMS party of internet outrage, this board also feels like a bizarro world where you get points by making ad homs.

Kevin D. Williamson and the NYPost both suck. It's not like I made fun of his giant ugly head, stupid earring, and ugly beard that he dyes black.

Let me give you an example of how shitty and dumb he is, from your article. He tries to assert that Democrats want AOC to run as a VP candidate. As evidence, he links to another NYPost op-ed that... doesn't mention AOC at all. The number of prominent Dems who have called for AOC to lead the party is... zero. To run as VP... zero. He relates zero evidence for his claim.

Kevin D. Williamson is stupid and ugly.

So pointing out someone's position is an ad hom?

For conservatives, yes, because their positions make them look stupid.

Pointing out that ‘whataboutism’ is not unique to Trump doesn’t indicate support for Donald nor is it an indication that any standards are being abandoned. Whataboutism is a comparison that is commonly used as a weak, but effective defense or distraction, and that’s exactly why Trump uses it often. But it is not hypocritical nor an abandonment of any principle to point out that Cortez and others—like you and me, for example—make frequent use of it.

But the use of whataboutism isn’t in itself a bad thing, unless it is used solely to justify a dubious deed or position. Unfortunately, that’s the only way I’ve seen it used by politicians or by surly posters.  There is however a constructive use of whataboutism, and that is when it is used to cause one to reevaluate a hypocritical position.  Such an example can be found in John, chapter 8, verses 3-7, where Jesus used it effectively when he caused the Pharisees to silently admit their hypocrisy.

tl;dr: I wish the word had never been coined.

It’s not “whataboutism” if the very same politician is being criticized for an opposite opinion he held in the 90s. “Whataboutism” is like saying “You think Trump is corrupt? What about so and so from your political party?!”  AOC is pointing out sheer partisan hypocrisy from the same person. That’s just Lindsay Graham getting called out on his bullshit.

I feel like I wouldn’t have to explain this if I believed Trump supporters actually graduated college, but here we are.

There you (and your ‘Like’ partners) go again! You’re assuming that I’m a Trump supporter, all based on what you see as an erroneous assertion that Cortez, too, makes use of whataboutism (she does, but more about that later). But for now I’m more interested in the logic you used to determine that I support Trump. Talk me through it, if you will. And since you assume that I’m not too bright, please talk slow and don’t use big words.

Again, you’re making an erroneous assumption—this time it is as to which twitter comment that I’m talking about. A few days ago, she said this:

Quote

Double standards are Paul Ryan being elected at 28 and immediately being given the benefit of his ill-considered policies considered genius; and me winning a primary at 28 to immediately be treated with suspicion & scrutinized, down to my clothing, of being a fraud.

In effect, she’s saying that she was treated unfairly; that Ron Paul was given the benefit of the doubt, but she wasn’t.  In other words, what about Paul?

Was she treated differently because of her gender? Probably. Because of her skin color? Again, probably. But the point is not that she’s right; the point is that she used whataboutism to make her case.

I don't think I ever saw Ryan pantsed right out of the gate by an interviewer on his own "team" like Tapper did to Cortez.

She needs to own that shit.

That's what makes her look like a fraud.

An ad hom is attacking the speaker as a means to attack or avoid a particular argument or point. It seeks to invalidate a position by attacking the speaker. So in this example, rather than evaluate or contradict the substance of the point, as a distraction some unrelated point is brought up about the speaker. Totally cool if someone thinks Ms. Cortez is a genius, but argue that point vs. attacking the speaker. It takes more work but it provokes a more thoughtful conversation.

This occurs a lot these days - let's just call everyone we disagree with a name so we do not have to engage or evaluate their ideas. There is a reason 95% of the posts on this board are just name calling and emotion.

I am scared that Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is going to use the enormous power she wields as one of the 435 House members to have all white people killed immediately after she gets sworn in.  Should I call the Supreme Court to complain?

No, your psychiatrist, so he can refill your meds.

That isn't whataboutism you maroon. It's straight up calling someone out for being a hypocritical pile of garbage.

What do you mean by “you people”?

This is something a Republican would normally do, back before they were the party of grifters.

Way to go. I love her.

If you love her so much, why don’t you marry her?

Look at her with her corrective lenses and coat.  If that cunt really believed in the values she espouses she'd be squinting in a burlap sack!
