Recruit info is from 247 I wouldn't say that's spot on. It's 11 out of 32 that they hit. Remember, they do extremely stupid stuff like downgrading recruits as COLLEGE PROSPECTS because they don't think they are what a prototypical PROFESSIONAL left tackle or edge rusher looks like. I don't give a fuck if someone is a prototypical NFL position-specific prospect if he's going to be a badass in college at that position. So if they're going to do stupid shit like downgrade incredible college prospects because they're not incredible NFL prospects then they better at least get that right. Here are the top 10 2021 247 recruits: #1 Quinn Ewers - 7th round #2 JT Tuimolau - 2nd round #3 Korey Foreman - Still in college transferred from USC to Fresno State because he sure as shit isn't a first round pick #4 Leonard Taylor - Undrafted free agent signed with Jets #5 JC Latham - #7 overall pick 2024 #6 Jack Sawyer - 4th round #7 Donovan Jackson - #24 overall #8 Caleb Williams - #1 overall 2024 #9 Emeka Egbuka - #19 overall #10 Tommy Brockermeyer - lol no 4 out of 10 were first round picks. This is the cream of the crop, the ones they spend the most time on, when they tell everyone that they rank based on NFL projection. Which, of course, is stupid because their subscribers care about college football. And they still can't bat .500 on the most heavily scrutinized prospects. Look, overall you want better classes. Throw them all in a bucket and you'll be much better off signing a bunch of top prospects. But that graphic is terribly misleading. Every single one of those 4-stars you see is a miss. And I haven't even gotten into shit like Walter Nolen who the NFL drafted on projection and sure as shit wasn't a 5-star college player.

April 30Apr 30 Not gonna bump the ‘24 draft thread, but he’s hanging ‘em up. Quote Jordan Travis’ statement: “On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I've been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”

Theisman, Tyrone Prothro, and this dude all on national tv of some sort. When a leg injury turns a body part sideways, backwards, or in multiple directions at once, the playing days are usually over. I guess Tim Krumrie and Alex Smith might disagree, but those are both crazy ass stories in bravery, persistence, and lunacy.

He was the best slot CB in the country two years ago and then switched to outside CB last year and won the fucking Thorpe Award.
May 2May 2 Even if he DID only have one stellar (award-winning) season, why is that bad? Many great NFL players got better year by year in college. It's kinda common.

There are only 32 1st round picks so if course there aren't 250+ players drafted in the round. But roughly 10% of the 4+ Star players from the 2021 class were drafted in the 1st. That's out of a max potential of like 12%. IMO, getting the rankings wrong would mean more 3 stars and below than 4+ stars getting drafted. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Not that such a ranking means they DO have a good chance, but (without being a recruitnik) it seems like it establishes a pretty decent bar.

It's pretty simple. Calculate draft picks per capita and they're doing better than Texas, Florida, and California. (WAY better than California.) I suspect they're doing better than almost every state save perhaps some random outlier like Rhode Island.

Using the word simple to mean excluding relevant factors to reach an inaccurate conclusion is certainly one way of going about it. If you factor in that 75% of the NFL is black and the other 25% of players are white and then look at the demographics for states that value football like Texas, Florida, and Georgia, the numbers are all pretty much in line. Georgia's not "punching above its weight" or doing anything exceptional compared to similar states.
May 6May 6 Gerry Hamilton has been harping on the Atlanta area being the hotbed for recruiting for a while. Sark and staff have made Georgia a priority.
May 6May 6 There's also always a bias towards drafting players from the dominant college teams. If Georgia had gone 8-4 several of their players would've been drafted lower or not at all. The other side of that bias is you see players from Bama or Georgia benefit from having stacked teammates around them playing against mortal college teams, then get drafted high and they aren't stars in the NFL due to better competition and not having 5 guys better than them around them. This is assuming most of UGA's players are from Georgia, as it relates to a bump in Georgia HS kids getting drafted. Edited May 6May 6 by Murfdogg21

Tracing any deeper than that for "pre-high-school state of origin" doesn't sound like a social media-worthy level of effort.
