Like we can't possibly be like Georgia and Bama have for a decade.
February 19Feb 19 Or said he could cover. He would account for at least one big coverage bust a game.
February 20Feb 20 The Athletic's NFL beat writers' mock draft has Banks at #29, Golden at #30. In other news, beat writers suck at this.
February 20Feb 20 McShay's first mockdraft in two years (behind a paywall, and he refused to give the mock in his podcast) Houston drafting an OT is absurd 1) Tennessee- Abdul Carter 2) Cleveland- Travis Hunter 3) NYG- Cam Ward 4) New England- Mason Graham 5) Jacksonville- Tyler Warren 6) Las Vegas- Sheduer Sanders 7) NYJ- Will Johnson '8) Carolina- Mykel Williams 9) New Orleans- Jalon Walker 10) Chicago- Will Campbell 11) San Francisco- Kelvin Banks Jr 12) Dallas- Ashton Jeanty 13) Miami- Armand Membou 14) Indianapolis- Jahdae Barron 15) Atlanta- Mike Green 16) Arizona- James Pearce Jr 17) Cincinnati- Colston Loveland 18) Seattle- Tyler Booker 19) Tampa Bay- Jihaad Campbell 20) Denver- Tetairoa McMillan 21) Pittsburgh- Omarion Hampton 22) LAC- Kenneth Grant 23) Green Bay- Walter Nolen 24) Minnesota- TreVeyon Henderson 25) Houston- Josh Simmons 26) LAR- Josh Conerly JR 27) Baltimore- Azareye'h Thomas 28) Detroit- Shemar Stewart 29) Washington- Matthew Golden 30) Buffalo- Derrick Harmon 31) Kansas City- Donovan Jackson 32) Philadelphia- TJ Sanders
February 21Feb 21 Daniel Jeremiah did his annual Q&A conference call with industry reporters Here's the interesting notes Spoiler - "starters draft". Can find a boat load of starters in this draft, especially on the DL, but not many stars - Similar grades at the top of the draft on Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter, with Carter slightly ahead - Jalon Walker is a top ten lock, and he'd be surprised if Mykel Williams doesn't go top ten. Starks didn't make as many big plays as he did his previous two seasons, but he likes his steadiness and positional flexibility - Has some separation between Cam Ward and Shedeur, which will be reflected in his top 50 that'll be released next week. Cam has more twitch in his body and a move live arm. Cam is a power thrower, Shedeur is a touch thrower. There might be teams where Shedeur is actually a better fit - Some teams will have Loveland over Warren. - Physicality concerns about Will Johnson - Kenneth Grant puts it together, you've hoping for Dexter Lawrence - Josaiah Stewart plays bigger than he is, DJ is a big fan - Realistic home run pick for Houston at #25. Thinks you can address IOL later in the draft due to depth. Likes Emeka Egbuka as an reliable tough inside/outside, and Matthew Golden for similar reasons. Really likes both in large part due to their catching ability for CJ Stroud - Thinks you can wait for DL/edge to come to you in this draft, but if you need an OT you might need to trade up - mentions Jayden Blue as a potential 3rd rounder - Fannin is kind of a mini Antonio Gates. Just gets open and makes big plays. Probably will be gone before the 3rd round - Zabel is a legit five OL flex. Is a day one plug and play at guard - A little later in the 2nd round likes Miles Frazier at guard - Mike Green is probably gone before pick #21 - Interesting RB dynamic in this draft. Between the league trending towards viewing RBs as more valuable and there being some awesome RBs at the top of the list in this draft, and there being a ton of depth, there's arguments for taking a difference maker early or waiting for a potential starter. Unclear how it'll fall - Thinks Maxwell Hairston could be a "riser" after the combine - James Pearce Jr has a wide range, could go top 15 or top of the 2nd - Talked at length about instances of teams punting on lesser QBs at the top of the draft and getting a better one high in the draft the next year - talked pros and cons of Banks. Likes his sturdiness and size and athleticism, thinks he can hold up at tackle but can be elite at guard, the cons are he sets too deep in pass pro (seems correctable) and wants a bit more nastiness/finishing in the run game - Zabel is in the mix to go first round - Given how strong the QBs are in the league right now, especially in the AFC, he'd go for ceiling over floor at the position the top of the draft. He'd have Ward in a similar spot as Nix, and would have Shedeur behind them and also behind Penix - Deeper CB draft than S draft. Mentioned a bunch of names at both positions - 2nd round WR options in the 50s for Green Bay or whoever (Houston?); Harris, Higgins, Bech, Horton, Noel, Royals - Harmon bottom 1st top 2nd type, Conerly Jr has a lot going for him but isn't a great bender/needs to get lower and needs to finish better in run game also bottom 1st top 2nd, Burch is huge but is more finesse and not violent, does play hard at chasing plays from behind bottom 2nd mid 3rd - Likes Nolen for SF, but thinks that's a bit of a reach and would like it more in a trade back - He seems to like Zabel for every team in the last ten picks or so of the first round - Would be surprised if Jeanty is there for Denver at #20 - Listed a bunch of DTs as examples for this drafts depth - He knows there's a lot of QB chatter, but he hasn't personally been able to find info about anyone liking a 3rd QB in the back end of the 3rd round, but if there is one his guess is Dart. He'll see if real buzz builds for him - Doesn't think Booker makes it to the Chargers (which means he doesn't think he'll make it to Houston) - He's high on Barron as a flexible DB who should play nickel like he was with Branch, Dejean, etc, and thinks the league is generally too low on that type in the draft compared to his opinion - Gets asked again about teams trading up/trading back, this time about the 20-40 range, and he again says he thinks trades up will be due to OTs - For the OZ/wide zone teams, he thinks Caleb Johnson, Omarion Hampton, both OSU guys, and Dylan Sampson are all good fits. Trevor Eiteinne later in the draft (3rd/4th round) "Ewers... there's a few guys that are on my list to go back after the combine and go back to '23 tape because.. I know he wasnt' healthy this year but he didn't take the step I was hoping he'd take.. he is still young at 21, hes' got quick feet quick release.. he just got into a lot of bad habits, I didn't think he played with any convinction, not trusting what he's seeing, just really sloppy with his feet, and everything kind of got away from him.. the team had tremendous success and he obviously made some big time throws in the playoffs, but.. overall not the step forward I was hoping for him" - Kyle McCord reminds of Derek Carr. Quick feet, quick eyes, see some good RPO stuff, is accurate, touch down the field, can gas it up with velocity, is agressive, but is frenetic at times and runs himself into sacks - All of these tier two guys are ideal in the 3rd round or later. Dart will be gone by then, but that's about where you want to start taking them. Likes Shough as a 3rd round flyer - He likes Horton from CSU - Talked about how the "cover corner" types, who are slighter quicker corners who are great in man, were really popular when he was working in the league but they're now less useful because teams will leave them unblocked as run force players and run at them all day - The two-deep saftey shell teams are going to love Kenneth Grant in this draft. Thinks he could have some Albert Haynesworth ceiling to him - Milroe's running ability might be the best single tool in the draft (edit, he later clarified that this was out of the QBs, not out of all the players). Would be an 80 grade tool in baseball. He thinks most teams probably have him 3rd/4th, but maybe he goes higher because of someone rolling the dice on that trait. High physical upside - Mason Graham might have short arms and might not test well, "but the tape is so good". Balance, strength, and leverage are elite. Wrestling background. - Landon Jackson and Princely Umanlyman as examples of the DE depth in this draft - Dart is his third QB (seemingly by default). Sees some similarities to Jalen Hurts. - Currently underrated players who could flash at the combine; Maxwell Hairston, Saivion Jones, Bradyn Swinson, Ahmed Hassanein - Asked about the four Georgia OL.. Wilson is the best, good center prospect. Ratledge more of a seal position blocker, gets thrown around a bit by bigger DL. Truss further down in the draft, plays high struggles to change direction, flashes power and pulling ability, day three. Fairchild, a little stiff and high, little limited athletically, but will get drafted. - Would like Golden/Egbuka/Burden for the Commanders. Teams will have those three in various orders. Zabel and Donovan Jackson could be OL picks there. - Believes in drafting RBs early mostly if you have the running game infrastructure set up so that you're not wasting their carries, since they only have so many of them

I’ve seen sentiments from folks on Twitter that compare Worthy’s speed and what they think Blue will do at the combine. I get the psychology of needing analogs and then lazily putting two speedsters from the same school together. That naturally draws the second guy higher in peoples’ minds at that point. To me, Blue is flawed in ways that Worthy wasn’t at their respective positions. I’d be happy for the guy, though. Having another guy light up the 40 and then being used in cool ways by one of the better league offenses would be a big deal for the continued growth of Texas football as an “it” program again.
February 23Feb 23 It’s probably Blue’s pass catching ability that makes some think he’s a fit as a “joker.” here’s an article talking about the position: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43588066/denver-broncos-coach-sean-payton-search-joker-help-offense

I’m glad he can catch as well has he does because he cannot run in between the tackles. However, you get him out in space and he sure is hard to catch.

Also, the idea that Campbell is 3x better on the board than Banks is dumb as fuck too. Campbell also doesn't have better film than Banks. Watching these idiots, and I know you dig Jeremiah but he does this every year, pick apart obvious takes over things like one inch in height is comical. Watching Kiper then rank Simmons above Banks as well is what I regard as evidence of dementia setting in for that well-coiffed but old bastard. 1 hour ago, BurntOrange&White said: Yeah, that didn't happen tho. February 26Feb 26 Gabriel is probably off the board for over half the teams in the league due to various threshold fails; weight, height, throwing velocity, age, probably hand size..
