Blue and Bond talking and then golden going out and quietly getting it done is not exactly surprising.

I'd say having two HOF QBs playing from 1992 to 2022 had something to do with it as well.

Yeah, living in Chicago for 10 years you run into a ton of Packers fans. The broadcaster in that video is pretty much on par with a Packer fan personality. In limited exposure the hard core, dedicated Fandom of Packer folks is interesting and only midly annoying. Extended exposure to multiple Packers becomes very frustrating pretty damn quick.

I'm happy for Golden. If he performs well he will be truly adored and loved, which is cool as a player.

Still don't care for those fans in broad spectrum.

In all seriousness, I think Ryan Clark says it's about racism.  Brushes off the fact that Cam is also black because Sanders has the swagger that middle America hates

Oooops…

I was so blinded by Golden that I didn’t connect the posts properly.

Cam Ward ended up in Nashville, Tennessee, not Green Bay.

(And he looked like he spent about $1,000 on his total outfit rather than $10K+ jewelry.)

CONGRATULATIONS to Cam Ward as well.

East Bernard ran the Slot T in 2012-13 when the won a state title.

I have seen it most in smaller schools and it can be really effective.  Think Fulshear ran it this year and they beat they shit out of a number of schools before they got beat by Atascosita.

They ran for some crazy number, maybe over 450 ypg and then threw for just over a 100 a game.

That coach has since gone onto Klein and it will be interesting to see if he runs it there.

If you have the right horses relative to your competition, anything can work.  And, if you can confuse the opponents D because they see it so infrequently, that can make a difference too.  Liberty Hill is an example of this.

I’m old enough to have been in a wing T offense then shortly after seen my high school transition to more open offenses.  Then seeing the evolution since that time.  I have a biased, personal preference of which offense I’d choose.  And a key support of that is the number of QBs from Texas that have succeeded at higher levels.  Thirty years ago Cam award is likely never heard from beyond high school.  Obviously, the reasons run deeper than simply the offense, but that’s one reason.

9. New Orleans Saints: Kelvin Banks Jr., G/OT, Texas

New Orleans has thrown numerous resources at its offensive line, spending first-round picks there in 2020, 2022, 2024 and now 2025. That spot on the field is always important, but this team also could use some defensive backs to shore up what was the NFL’s 27th-ranked defense a season ago.

Banks can become a stalwart (and the grade below isn’t about him specifically), but it’s arguable whether spending another key asset on the offensive line was the best move. Banks was this class’ 26th-ranked prospect, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler. He started every game of his college career at left tackle and won both the Lombardi Trophy and Outland Trophy after the 2024 season.

There is much debate over whether Banks’ skill set works best at tackle or guard, and that will be ongoing.

Grade: C

I'm not saying Banks is Travis Hunter, but downgrading him (not really him, just the team for picking another o-lineman) while acknowledging that he might actually be a functional tackle OR guard seems pretty silly.

But, Kiper.

thats like choosing between adding a cat turd or a dog turd to your morning coffee. Fuck em both. The draft "industry" that the NFL has managed to build into their marketing is really something, but they run circles around the other leagues in terms of marketing. but the downside to that is having these fucking dorks that probably never scored a touchdown in their lives pretend like they are NFL talent gurus. They are somehow worse than the entirety of  the $9.95 jock sniffers at the collegiate levels.

Even something as typically milquetoast as Wikipedia takes a somewhat dim view of that waste of space Mel Kiper.

Career

Kiper said that he approached Ernie Accorsi, then-assistant general manager of the Baltimore Colts, with draft reports while still a student in high school. Accorsi told him that there was a market for draft information and suggested that Kiper convert his analysis into a business.[7][8] The original contract he signed with ESPN in 1984 was for $400.[9]

Kiper and fellow draft analyst Todd McShay were often featured together and compared their mock drafts on ESPN programs.[10] Kiper compiles a "big board", on which he ranks his top 25 players every week.[11]

One of the best known moments of Kiper's career was during the 1994 NFL Draft, when he butted heads with Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Tobin. Kiper, then relatively unknown as an analyst, derided the Colts for passing on Trent Dilferafter trading up to the fifth pick. Tobin retorted in an interview, "Who the hell is Mel Kiper?" and noted that Kiper has "never put on a jockstrap."[12] Kiper also remarked at the draft that the Colts were "the laughingstock of the league year in and year out," which a bemused Chris Berman noted as marking "a day which will live in infamy."[13] When Tobin died in 2024, Kiper offered condolences on social media.[14]

Accuracy

Kiper has received sustained criticism for the low accuracy of his predictions. According to Cold Hard Football Facts, Kiper's accuracy for the first round of the 2005–2008 NFL drafts was 32 of 127 total picks (25.2%), which included players that had already signed or were in the process of signing with a team before the draft.[15][16] According to The Huddle Report in 2014, based on Kiper's final mock drafts, he had accurately predicted 23% of the first round picks in the previous five years.[9] Kiper's initial drafts were even lower, correctly predicting 17 out of 256 from 2010–2018.[4] In 2021, FantasyPros ranked Kiper's final mock draft 87th of 182 and Grading the Experts ranked his draft 32nd of 38.[17] In 2023, Kiper correctly predicted only one of the 31 draftees in the first round despite updating his analysis on the morning of the NFL draft after gathering additional information.[18][19][20]

And here’s some of the Bill Tobin stuff, I wish they hadn’t candied up his initial response to Mort, but the later stuff at the news conference was good.

I'll have a soft spot in my heart for Packers fans.

1. When we went to see the Packers play the Broncos in the Super Bowl (Elwaycopter) we, in full Broncos regalia, were surrounded by cheeseheads, and they were the nicest, most gracious NFL fans I'd ever seen. (The drunken Jets fan next to us? Not so much.)

2. Blonde PAWGs. I just like Wisconsin people in general.

3. EVERY team should be community-owned if they expect our tax money to fund their stadiums.

also I'm happy for Matt Golden. GB's getting a great player at a position of need, and it's a great situation for Golden to head to.

This right here. Draft analysts are the lowest of the low.

If you can't get a job anywhere else in sports, become a draft analyst. Make mock drafts. You have a base in the worst throes of football addiction withdrawal, starving for anything at all for a hit.

Mock drafts are the fentanyl lacing of football journalism. They are cheaply made and horrible for you. They require no effort. It's the shotgun approach to rage-bait: You have 32 chances to piss people off. And that's the goal, ultimately: Engagement.

Kiper and all these other dumbshits have jobs because we keep talking about them. They don't have to be right. It's actually better if they ARE wrong, because here I am, like an idiot, TALKING ABOUT HIM. It drives clicks, boss. That's his only job: To bring your football-starved eyes over to ESPN to see what dumb shit Kiper said every day.

It pissed me off as Mike Greenberg said not once, but twice as the ESPN coverage started, “and here’s Mel Kiper, who invented the NFL Draft!” The fuck he did.

tl;dw - Patrick says that NFL scouts told him that people who did mock drafts put Shadeur in the first because they wanted to stay on Deion's "good side" (didn't want the smoke).

"The smoke" being one of the sports world's biggest loudmouths never shutting the fuck up?

Listening to some of the Sanders takes this morning have been hilarious. Bill Simmons had folks that made Colorado seem like a small school that didn’t spend a cent on NIL money and how Sanders put the team on his back (ignoring that his teammate won the Heisman, Sanders choked against the best teams on his schedule).

It would be an interesting case study on Jahdae choosing to stay one more year in school with nil. I believe he was a projected 3rd or 4th last year.

Terry Joseph really hooking up his former guys yesterday. His new team picked Banks and his cousin is the DC for the Broncos who picked his former pupil Barron.

It will be interesting to see how the Broncos use Barron with Surtain, Riley Moss and their existing young nickel.

Also, interesting note, on the ABC telecast Saban said Golden wasn't a good route runner when he got to Texas but became one here. Great recruiting material.

Great observation about the Josephs, you’d assume there was communication between Terry and Vance regarding Jahdae. And I mentioned this in the Matthew Golden thread on the $9.95 page, Scott Van Pelt interviewed Saban after the draft and Nick said the Golden pick was his favorite of the first round. Earlier, SVP interviewed Herbstreit, and asked him to name his favorite selection of Rd 1: Jahdae Barron.
