If I told you before last season Ewers wouldn’t go until after the third round possibly, no one would have believed me. I really expected him to go in the early part of the third round.

He was quite inconsistent, has injury issues, and can’t move for shit.

Yes. Availability is your best ability.
That’s a concern, still I wish he could go in third round. I know he will have to work hard but he can go the Colt and Sam route and be set if he doesn’t get an immediate shot to start.

He wont go anywhere he has to start. He's a QB 2 for a team with an aging good QB, and honestly that's best for him and the team.

Ewers needs to go somewhere like Washington where he'll never be expected to start

Super happy for both Collins and Mukuba being drafted in rd 2. They've earned it.

Broughton in the 3rd.

Huge boost in recruiting. Kid better recognize.

Go the Chase Daniel route.

So are mock drafts and Shedeur-enfreude... but here we are.

I actually disagree with this. I watched some of his games. I thought he was talented. Granted, I don’t know shit. I think this is all backlash for him being a cunt and nobody wanting to deal with him and his father. Which is fair.

It wasn't. The actual draft analysts who are worth a shit get into a lot of the details, but he was flashy and looked good against some really shitty competition. However, as noted above watch NU or BYU, focus on his play, watch his read progression, pocket awareness and passes. Notice the WRs prior to the throws too.

Its all there. Much wiser people that I are on record discussing it.

Major props to Vernon, the surprise of the 3rd round. Gerry and Bobby were thinking he'd be maybe late 5th or 6th.

2 straight years we put 2 starting DT in rounds 1-3. Big time love to Kenny Baker who had a major hand in these 2 going 2nd and 3rd round. While a lot of the Surly recruiting "experts" said he was shit 12 months ago.

I'm not entirely sure why a team would waste a pick on SS even as a potential backup.  Does anyone think that guy would do the work that Colt did?  Anyone think he'd be willing to jump in for a few series or even games while the starter recovers?  Nah.  He's a toxic prima donna and not really worth paying.

Yep. Everyone was waa preparing for him to go undrafted, and he exceed every expeptaition. Truly a glorious weekend.

Kenny Baker may acrually be a wizard and damn good at his job

100% because of the injury questions.

Don't discount the bad accuracy on deep throws

Some GMs can be really fucking stupid (I'm looking at YOU Jerrah), but truly, I'd rather have Gabriel, Mertz or Ewers riding pine in Dallas than Sanders. All day, every day.

Which is why Jerrah will probably draft him late.

Pocket awareness issues should also be pointed out along with Redzone reads.

Didn't they go out of their way to draft a high profile QB last year or am I thinking of another team.

Nah, they shipped off Geno to the Raiders and then brought in Dalton from the Vikings.  Milroe will get to sit.  Might find ways to get him on the field in certain offensive packages because he's got Lamar Jackson levels of ability running the ball.

It's extremely unique. If his last name wasn't Sanders nobody would have paid him any attention at all.

There is a lot of other guessing as to why all the bobble heads were putting him high, but it simply wasn't deserved.

When you add crazy drama and insane arroganceto a talented but not great college career its going to run a LOT of teams off. He skipped a lot of interviews. A lot. Acted like a top 5 draft pick, and wasn't. Created drama in the coaching staff at his college. Never owned any errors during or after games.

No half way intelligent head coach wants that.

This is a hype vs reality situation and a lot of people bought in. A grift of sorts, if you will. And... it was lead by.... a well known Grifter.

Whatever team takes him, will have possibly 4-5 other guys picked ahead of him already.  Some owner or GM is going to have to walk over and say congrats, you're our 6th take.  Glad to have you on board.  In which case, SS and his dad's best possible response should be Thank you for the opportunity, but we know there's a large chance neither goes that route.

Steelers. But they have had ample chances to take him and passed each time.

Every player they've drafted so far - while sticking with Rudolph - gives them a better chance to win.
1 - DT Derek Harmon - agree
2 - no pick, but they traded it for DK Metcalf
3 - RB Kaleb Johnson - agree

Sub any of those picks for Shedeur and the Steelers win fewer games next year.

That's almost entirely footwork and making better reads, both of which are fixed with time and effort. In fact, Ewers is already working on the footwork issue. And as for learning reads -- he's only JUST turned 22. I have no doubt he'll get these all fixed in a year or two.

The only thing he can't fix is how often he gets injured.

If he can stay healthy, I think he's gonna be a great NFL starter.

They're going to sign Aaron Rodgers

I know this is a thin QB class, but I also wonder if the NFL is shifting away from the "holy shit we gotta have an a-list QB RIGHT NOW" theory.  We won't know for years, but maybe the bloom is coming off the rose for paying every Tom Dick & Harry tens of millions of dollars "just because".

most likely.  and they will win more games with aaron rodgers - and his baggage - than with shedeur.

Yep.  Like all of the QBs in this draft, QE has several holes in his game.  But he also has some strengths to offset these issues.  My guess is 4th round

This site collected data from 191 big boards, 1491 first round mock drafts and 1528 team need based drafts to generate what it calls a Consensus Big Board.

Based on that crowd-sourced data, here's how players were drafted vs. their consensus rankings.  A negative number implies a reach.

image.png.0ea3d35f6b0aca7b85cf9bd3f7dec465.png

It should be no surprise that Dallas, Detroit, and Minnesota had the biggest reaches.

Did the same thing for the 2nd round.  As expected the variance is far greater.  And the coloring is skewed by some reaches and some over-rated prospects.  Will likely not do this for round 3 :)

Note that Pittsburgh converted pick #52 into DK Metcalf.

#2 is taken tho. Prolly need a new number.

God, I hope so.  ISU plays CU this year and I would love to see a Jon Heacock defense abuse him

After next year, of course, since 2026 is in Pittsburgh.  Perhaps they will do it at The Point, which would be a pretty cool location for TV, if the weather is ok.

Basically, Ewers needs lots of improvement and is an injury risk. This is why I'm confident he will be picked up as a QB 2 maybe QB 3. I really do think its best for Ewers and whatever team he may end up at.

I thought he might go low 3rd, I was wrong. Honestly, I think Gabriel is as good a QB2/3 as Ewers, mainly because of fewer bad injuries, better pocket awareness and better long ball. Size is his bad, and he's had a few injuries too.

But here's the thing: Gabriel and Milroe need MUCH MORE work than Ewers does. FAR more. What they don't have? An injury history like Ewers'. Quinn hasn't had a full healthy season since his Sophomore year in high school. That's the reason, and the ONLY reason, he's dropped this far.

He's a good fit for Los Angeles, aside from being a Country kid.

Gabriel is much more polished (should be, he's several years older) and could step in quickly into a backup role like Penix did in Atlanta.

Milroe is benefitting from Jalen Hurts. He's big, he's fast, he's strong, he throws a great deep ball. I doubt he has the mental side that Hurts has, but a team will always fall for measurables.

Ewers has poor measurables, an ok arm, is always injured, and can't move well. That's just a disastrous recipe for the NFL.

The cheese stuff is super dumb. So is the amount of time and attention that people pay in reading / preparing mock drafts, reading instant draft analysis, then giving draft grades when the large majority of impacts won't be known for several years. So it's a perfect match.

Famous Key and Peele skit.

No CR, but after his earlier tweet, there is a non-zero chance that Trumps launches an investigation against the NFL for collusion?

When you declare for the draft you forgo any remaining eligibility you have. It's a player decision to do that, not NCAA.

Ewers is small, had a soso arm and is turnover prone
