Blue and Bond talking and then golden going out and quietly getting it done is not exactly surprising.

That's the second recent mock I've seen that has Houston taking an OT in the first.. which is absurd. They already have three OTs.

Can he flex to one of the Guard spots for a year? That's the biggest hole in the line right now. Might be a guy they put there, but train him to be an OT after next year. I believe Howards contract can be dropped with little dead money after 2025.

I’ve seen a couple mocks of the Texans taking a DT in the 1st. I think Caserio has done a good job of building a viable pass rush/run defense with spare parts at DT. Best player available and all that, but they really need an OG, and a WR that isn’t a reach.

I think Tet is a stud. Young Mike Evans

I think they’ll just take a guard. Maybe it’ll be a guard with tackle flexibility like Donovan Jackson, but it makes no sense to spend premium resources on four tackles

The Cowboys grabbing  Burden with Jeanty right there would certainly be on brand

I’m with Fud on McMillan. That dude is a stud in a terrible class.

I’m with Burt on Burden. I know I’ve probably said it on this thread before, but he has bust written all over him. He underperformed in 2 of 3 years in college. He whined publicly and in the locker room about his targets for 3 years. He threw fits on the sideline and he quit on his team multiple times during games. Beyond all of that, I just don’t see some sort of freak meriting a top 15 pick. Golden in the 3rd round could be a far better NFL player.

Whoever drafts him better start calling their passing game the Tet Offensive.

Seems like most ‘experts’ think Simmons and the Tennessee dude can play inside their first year or two then pop outside once Tunsil and Howard’s contracts roll off the books..

I think it’s more likely they just don’t understand Houston roster

Very possible as well…

Daniel Jeremiah went on Mcafee and some clips that made their way into my timeline had him saying

- Has Will Howard as a top 50 pick right now but needs to do a deeper

- Carter is the best prospect in the draft

- Milroe will be a day two pick

- League is split on Sheduer

- Quinn had a disappointing year

Ohio State RB Quinshon Judkins just declared for the draft.  Glad the Horns won't be seeing that due on August 30.

Through mock drafts I've been screwing around with, I've noticed that trading down to accumulate extra picks doesn't seem to pay off this year. The talent pool at critical positions is limited, making it essential to secure impact players when possible. More picks in this draft don’t necessarily translate to more talent. With the Texans, whether targeting an interior offensive lineman or a receiver in the first round, there’s a notable drop-off in talent by the time they pick again in the second. Trading up in the second round could be the right move to land an immediate contributor at both positions.

Caserio’s history makes it way more likely they’ll trade up in the early rounds than down..

He'll do whichever makes sense

I'm still trying to understand how everyone has Shemar Stewart as a first round pick?  He's a long term project at best. The risk/reward just isn't there for a first round pick.

He’s huge and athletic. His lack of production is priced in and is why he’s not a top five pick

This RB class is ridiculous.. If you draft a RB in the first round, you are a moron

yeah, but I'd argue with his size and athleticism that it should have shown up somewhere in 3 years playing the teams A&M had on their schedule with the other guys they had on his D-line during his tenure.  To me that prices him into the late 2nd, early 3rd at best.

Fwiw, he actually has a high pressure rate, he just struggled to convert those into sacks. Some teams might look at that and think they can turn those into sacks, and some might look at that and think consistent pressures are good enough at that pick. Also, draft twitter/fans always underrate power rushing from the edge compared to what the NFL sees. Coaches value edges who'll bully lighter tackles or TEs/RBs, and at Shemar's size he'll potentially offer that

I think he starts to become a surplus value pick in the second half of the round. Taking him first overall over Aiden Hutchinson is a different story

The Texans taking Burden would be sadly hilarious. Hope that doesn’t happen.

I could see them taking Egbuka there if they go WR. He's a plug and play WR2, which they need now with Diggs being a free agent and Tank probably taking two years to get back to where he was

Of course, we don't even know what offense they're going to run right now

No. You were right. I could see Simmons or Williams getting selected by the Texans in the 1st round or early 2nd, Playing RG and then RT the following year. Fisher moves to LT permanently. Need someone who can move a DT off the freaking line though. Only thing that is missing for the Texans is running game and a legit 2nd WR.

For Houston, the positions that make the most sense to me in the first are DT (in large part because there's some high upside guys in this draft who might fall into the mid 20s), WR, OG (there's some OG/OT types, who'd be particularly great fits if Houston sticks with the OZ offense), TE (my Tyler Warren dream has died, he ain't making it to #25), and to a lesser extent S

Here's some names that could make sense at each one of those at #25. Some of these names probably have a low likelihood of making it to #25, although there's always a couple of guys who fall for whatever reason and get scooped up by the Eagles, Ravens, Steelers, Chiefs, etc

DT:
Walter Nolen
Kenneth Grant
Derrick Harmon
TJ Sanders
Jordan Philliams
Tyleik Williams

OG:
Kelvin Banks
Armand Membou
Tyler Booker
Donovan Jackson
Jonah Savaiinaea
Wyatt Milum

WR:
Emeka Egbuka
Luther Burden
Matthew Golden

TE:
Colston Loveland

S:
Malaki Starks
Nick Emmanwori

He is a big fan of Barron and Golden.  Doesn't have anything really bad to say about Banks or Collins either.

Didn’t you see how dominant he was on his 1.5 sacks??

His latest mock has Barron at 13 behind Banks at 12 and Golden at 21 (before Burden)!

I wonder if Burden doesn’t continue to slip. There’s film, which has holes in it. Then there is the reality that his staff doesn’t love him and he’s not a great character guy. Does that all dampen the upside of how he’s going to test and measure?

I have seen several mock drafts having Banks, Barron and Golden drafted in the 1st round, which would be amazing.

I don’t know if you heard it here first or whether some motherfucker said it upthread….

but Matthew Golden is going to be a top tier WR in the NFL

Jeremiah first mentioned it on Eisen's show a week or so ago. Golden really impressed late in the year and NFL teams noticed.

LZ is there and said Nolen and Sorrell are mauling everyone. He said the QBs all looked shitty and WR group looks weak compared to previous years (we knew that).

I just don't see a first round WR in the entire draft this year outside of possibly McMillan, and that is assuming a lot. It wouldn't surprise me to see Burden and Golden drop into round 2 with a few other viable options. I think Banks will ultimately be drafted in the top 10-15. If Barron runs well I could see him as a top 15-20 pick. I still say that Quinn will shoot back up draft boards heading into the draft and find himself at the bottom of the first.

I agree with this.

Yeah Golden doesn't seem like a first rounder to me, either. But what do I know?

Also agreed on Ewers. The injury history is still a big issue even if he kills it in the workouts.

Banks seems to be slipping a bit. Sad to say, but how he measures will probably decide it. People throwing out he is 1 inch from the prototype, not enough length, might be a guard. I hate to see this stuff happen to him, but it is a bit funny considering people yammering about Turntine being a guard in the recruit chat.
