It's May 1st, time to get this year's thread going. Looks like we'll get a taste of the furnace starting next week.

I'll be Houston that day so I'm sure I'll be avoiding that humidity and heat.

Taking it one week at a time. I hope El Nino can hold on a few more months. The weather and rainfall has been wonderful. Do not want La Nina. If our first week with the majority of days over 100 can be in July in DFW, Ill take it as a win.

Of course, making predictions so early in the year is not scientifically accurate. As our meteorologists will tell you, accurately forecasting out more than seven days ahead is incredibly difficult. Last year, the team predicted anywhere from 33 to 44 days of triple-digit heat, but Austin ended up with 80.

This year, the team is predicting a well-above-average year when it comes to 100° days. Austin averages 29 days at or above 100° in a typical year. Here’s what the team is predicting for 2024:

I Predict it's lower than their collective set.

The average among the four is 65 days, and we're going to hold you to it. Pitchforks if you're wrong, and to be clear, I fucking hope you're right.

The big easy gonna be 95 tomorrow. I planted a garden last weekend so I am to blame.

Is "cunt" another term for "prophet" ?????

Yesterday was the first truly gross Summer-like day here in Houston. High 80's, extremely humid, producing a "feels like" close to triple digits. Walking through my work garage yesterday morning brought back that old familiar feeling of "oh here we fucking go."

Close to 90 today, but much drier air arrived overnight and it's actually pretty pleasant. I'm gonna savor these last remaining tolerable weeks before it gets terrible.

Wunderground 10 day forecast has a bunch of 97 degree days next week.

Weatherbug 10 day forecast has 87 on all of those same days.

Nobody fucking knows anything anymore.

Don't see anything higher than 92 on my Wunderground.  But today is absolutely glorious.

Good news. Summer 2023 was the hottest in 2000 years. No way 2024 is worse, right? Right?

https://abcnews.go.com/US/temperatures-measured-summer-2023-unparalleled-past-2000-years/story?id=110171017

Temperatures measured during summer 2023 'unparalleled' to past 2,000 years, researchers say

A closer look at tree rings is adding to the growing list of evidence that shows unprecedented temperatures measured on Earth over the past year.

The summer of 2023 was the warmest in the Northern Hemisphere extra-tropical regions -- from about New Orleans to the North Pole -- in the past 2,000 years, according to a study published in Nature on Tuesday.

Is this true, @Armybrat?

Don't be an asshole... @Armybrat wasn't born until 1048...he spent his 18th birthday on the front lines at the Battle of Hastings.

Show some respect for a veteran.

My dad tracked our lineage back to 1066 and William the Conqueror.  So I might be related to Armybrat?

Y’all keep exaggerating.
I won’t turn 80 until December.😛

Both Wunderground and Weatherbug show Austin coming in at 96 F with a 105 F heat index next Tuesday, so 2024 says "prepare your anus" ...

NB weatherbug has 95 on Tuesday, but then 91, 88, 88, 89

NB Wunderground has 98 on Tues, then 93, 95, 96, 98

I look at Wunderground but then always double-check with the local forecasters since they can provide some nuance.  It will suck either way.

It's here... today was the first morning since Sept where I sweated during my morning dog walk. While it's not oppressive, it definitely feels like summer in dfw now. Ac running a lot more. I think it's the abnormally high low temps that make it worse. A low of 77 over the next few days with high humidity means you never feel like you catch a break. I have a bad feeling our first 100 degree day is coming in the next few weeks. Hope I'm wrong.

Disneyland yesterday. 73 and overcast.  Felt muggy tbh.  And then dropped to 65 when the sun went down.  Had to breakout the hoodie.   Weather out here is unpredictable as well.

Also, your low is higher than my high.  But, but, but, I feel like 75 out here feels hotter than 75 over there.

I should neg you for the forecast, posrep you for the gif.  I'm confused now.

Yep, yesterday was day 1.  Between now and at least Labor Day, I will be unpleasant to be around unless I’m within 50 ft of a body of water.

Fuck the derecho and all them fuckin trees.

My power will be out for who knows how long and it's a fucking swamp already in Houston.

If HISD canceled the rest of the year, I might peace out for a month. I need to buy a place in Greater Phoenix...  How do I even feel that way?
