Was in Austin over the weekend and it was cooler than back here in PA (where we have seen record heat all month and no end in sight, plus hey what's rain?). It was pretty glorious for late July.

Wonderful. I get back to Austin on Saturday night. Gonna be awful hard to deal with this bullshit after getting used to average mid 70s/mid 50s temps for a month in Colorado at 9000 feet.

Whatever. This summer was a win. August can suck my dick.

Agree. I’m not bitching and will take this every year

There are some models calling for a "cold front" late next week.

Let’s not start sucking each others dicks just yet. September and October could fuck us. I just assume August will.

September is a fucking given to be miserable. It’s the swamp ass on Halloween when it really pisses me off.

Some models calling for a cold front would also imply other models are not.

Yes, but hot Halloween means hot coed costumes.

Cold Halloween means hard nipples.

Fuck you, August and the Saharan dust.

It turns out that the average temperature at Camp Mabry in July was actually cooler than in June.  First time in 16 years.

(They define "average" as the average of daily high & low temperatures, and then average those over the month.)

June hotter than July in Austin

My dog and I sat under a light blanket on the porch drinking coffee while the front pushed through this morning. Of course the sun is back with a vengeance now, and it had finally been dry enough and I’d sprayed enough to almost knock the mosquitoes completely out, but I get to start over on that.

In Vegas where it’s 106.   Felt way worse than any part of Texas

I'd take 106 in Vegas over 99 in Houston 7 days a week.

Spent the last 12 days in Europe. Don't think I experienced a temperature above 88 at any point. Just got back yesterday evening. Glad to see I got back just in time to catch the 3 hottest days of the entire Summer (thus far).

Today is the Summer Solstice. Longest day of the year.

Starting tomorrow, sunrises get later and sunsets get earlier. Just a few seconds off each end at first. Doesn't really pick up steam until you get closer to the Equinox in late September. At that point we start losing nearly a minute off each end every day.

Sunlight loss is starting to get a little more noticeable. Only 10 more days of sunset after 8 pm in Houston area.

Today: Sunrise 6:45, Sunset 8:09

8/21: Sunrise 6:53, Sunset 7:55

You can totally tell in the morning... at least mornings feel a little less brutal... well, except this week will change everything :/

For those wondering when the first noticeable front will come through, someone did a chart of the last 40 years.

Seeing more and more Octobers, gotdammit. ☹️

Blastfurnace looks to be on cruise control the rest of the month. Weather gods set the thermostat to 100 and sunny and then headed out on a long vacation.

what's the standard for a noticeable front, 10 degrees off the highs?

The SCW guys define it as the "first day with an overnight temperature reading of 65 or below at IAH"

Based on historical data (for Houston area), it typically occurs no earlier than 9/1 and no later than 10/15, with the average date being ~9/20.

Yep, it was around then that I would walk to class in shorts and freeze my ass off walking home.

I understand june and July were great so let's get that out of the way. What have you done for me lately. The 7 and 10 day keep getting worse and worse and now it's getting into my, fuck this bullshit, temp range.  This morning is a sauna and I'm seeing mid 100s later this week with no relief in the 10 day to make me feel better. Fuck August.

August and September in Texas are the worst . . . we're all ready for summer to end and the heat ball just keeps fucking that chicken.

October is the best.

Fuck everything.

I remember being in Vegas about 25 years ago when they shut the airport down because their formulating for takeoff weights did not go as high as that day's temperature.  Something like 118 degrees.

yep - density altitude is a worry even for the big boys when it gets that hot.

Well fortunately they will be in 72 degree classrooms kept cold during the hottest time of the year. And good thing every school bus in Texas has AC.

Next week in south Texas is going to be a bruiser, 106 Monday- Friday, sat Sunday down to 101. We have got to do something about this sun. Motherfucker won't stop.

I assume this is sarcasm since not all of aisd has full ac.

Busses of course not

Yeah, that must be hell in a prison

Yep, I think it is stupid to send kids back this early.

On the plus side my water heater broke but I really don’t even need it. It’s so fucking hot in the attic the water is normal for showers
