July 29, 20241 yr Was in Austin over the weekend and it was cooler than back here in PA (where we have seen record heat all month and no end in sight, plus hey what's rain?). It was pretty glorious for late July.

August 4, 20241 yr It turns out that the average temperature at Camp Mabry in July was actually cooler than in June. First time in 16 years. (They define "average" as the average of daily high & low temperatures, and then average those over the month.) June hotter than July in Austin
August 4, 20241 yr My dog and I sat under a light blanket on the porch drinking coffee while the front pushed through this morning. Of course the sun is back with a vengeance now, and it had finally been dry enough and I’d sprayed enough to almost knock the mosquitoes completely out, but I get to start over on that.

August 7, 20241 yr Spent the last 12 days in Europe. Don't think I experienced a temperature above 88 at any point. Just got back yesterday evening. Glad to see I got back just in time to catch the 3 hottest days of the entire Summer (thus far).

Just a few seconds off each end at first. Doesn't really pick up steam until you get closer to the Equinox in late September. At that point we start losing nearly a minute off each end every day. Sunlight loss is starting to get a little more noticeable. Only 10 more days of sunset after 8 pm in Houston area. Today: Sunrise 6:45, Sunset 8:09 8/21: Sunrise 6:53, Sunset 7:55

August 8, 20241 yr For those wondering when the first noticeable front will come through, someone did a chart of the last 40 years.
August 12, 20241 yr Blastfurnace looks to be on cruise control the rest of the month. Weather gods set the thermostat to 100 and sunny and then headed out on a long vacation. Edited August 12, 20241 yr by Storm the Field

The SCW guys define it as the "first day with an overnight temperature reading of 65 or below at IAH" Based on historical data (for Houston area), it typically occurs no earlier than 9/1 and no later than 10/15, with the average date being ~9/20.
August 12, 20241 yr Yep, it was around then that I would walk to class in shorts and freeze my ass off walking home.
August 13, 20241 yr I understand june and July were great so let's get that out of the way. What have you done for me lately. The 7 and 10 day keep getting worse and worse and now it's getting into my, fuck this bullshit, temp range. This morning is a sauna and I'm seeing mid 100s later this week with no relief in the 10 day to make me feel better. Fuck August.
August 13, 20241 yr August and September in Texas are the worst . . . we're all ready for summer to end and the heat ball just keeps fucking that chicken. October is the best.

August 13, 20241 yr Well fortunately they will be in 72 degree classrooms kept cold during the hottest time of the year. And good thing every school bus in Texas has AC.
August 13, 20241 yr Next week in south Texas is going to be a bruiser, 106 Monday- Friday, sat Sunday down to 101. We have got to do something about this sun. Motherfucker won't stop.
