May 17, 20241 yr Popular Post Dabney Wharton Coleman (January 3, 1932 – May 2024)[1] was an American actor. Coleman's best known films include 9 to 5 (1980), On Golden Pond (1981), Tootsie (1982), WarGames (1983), Cloak & Dagger (1984), The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984), The Beverly Hillbillies (1993), You've Got Mail(1998), Inspector Gadget (1999), Recess: School's Out (2001), Moonlight Mile (2002), and Rules Don't Apply (2016).[3 https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/dabney-coleman/ After attending the Virginia Military Institute for about two years, I enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. My family had all gone there, and I majored in philosophy, history, and economics — one for each year. I finally opted for the Plan II program and then got into the law school. I did that for a year and a half, but I didn’t break any records. I don’t think I passed more than two courses because I didn’t go to class very often. I was too busy playing Ping-Pong at the Phi Delta Theta house and calling girls. I was still living in Austin when Zachary Scott, who was an old friend of my first wife’s, came over to our apartment for a drink. Believe it or not, I was smitten with becoming an actor just from that meeting. It sounds superficial — and I guess it is — but I’m very glad that it happened. The next day, I was on a plane to New York. Some of my favorite movies as a kid. I don't think he finished, but he went to the law school so I'm assuming he posted here. May 17, 20241 yr For a long time, I thought Cloak and Dagger was just a fever dream I had as a kid and not an actual movie. I just thought I imagined some 3 finger old lady trying to choloroform me while i ran around San Antonio.

May 17, 20241 yr Mr. McKittrick, after very careful consideration, sir, I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks. I don't have to take that, you pig-eyed sack of shit.
May 17, 20241 yr Did they ever make the actual Cloak and Dagger video game that they played in the movie? I geeked out when I was a kid and went to the Riverwalk for the first time because it was featured in the movie. Edited May 17, 20241 yr by mdmost

They released it in arcades, but only about 140 arcade machines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloak_%26_Dagger_(video_game) A few years ago (2022 I think) it was released in the Atari 50 compilation or whatever for consoles/PCs, which was the first time it was legally available outside of owning the arcade machine.
May 18, 20241 yr Author Man, seeing this poster all over the place And seeing all of the 80s kids coming out of the woodwork who loved it. Hope he realized how big it was for a lot of us.
May 18, 20241 yr Damn, seemed like he was in everything growing up. Could hardly catch a movie during the 80s without him. RIP.
May 18, 20241 yr By no means the greatest film ever made, every time I've ever seen it Short Time made me laugh. A bit obscure, but a fun one.

May 18, 20241 yr Had no idea he was 92. Also, if I knew of the UT connection, I'd forgotten. RIP to an accomplished fellow Longhorn! Love the nods to Modern Problems. Loved that movie as a kid and I swore nobody else has ever seen it. Now I know better.

May 19, 20241 yr I forgot about another odd role he had in a weird movie I like, but he played the sleazy boss in Clifford. He had a minor role, but was great at it, pony tail and all.
May 19, 20241 yr mdleast is too much of a coward to get on this thread and discuss his favorite Dabney Coleman role which was the smut producer in Dragnet.
