May 19, 20241 yr I’m gonna be emptying a storage unit in Austin and driving some shit to Arizona. Looking at uhaul website to rent a 6x12 trailer is almost $500? Seems high, maybe it’s not. Anyone know if there are cheaper/better options?

They aren't that expensive.
May 19, 20241 yr Author one of these, not a flatbed. I’m gonna rent one from somewhere, I just assumed it would be cheaper. I imagine U-Haul’s rates are pretty standard. just seeing if anyone knew something I didn’t.
May 19, 20241 yr It’s a bit seasonal/variable pricing. You may be taking it one way to somewhere that they don’t want more trailers or during a week where a bunch of trailers were planned to be rented. The rentals are by day so how many days is $500 that wasn’t clear. It may be cheaper to rent a box truck
May 19, 20241 yr Make sure you ask where the trailer is located. It might not be convenient to your pickup location.
May 20, 20241 yr A round trip rental may be cheaper, but probably not worth the hassle and extra fuel on the return trip.
May 20, 20241 yr Issue is Austin being start point. You pick a local like San Antonio and you'll see rates drop 70%. Might try locations nearby you're willing to drive to in order to save some money and weigh the time/savings.
