June 20, 20241 yr Danes are going to drop on in. Another viking invasion of the soft English country side.
June 20, 20241 yr These announcers talk like Denmark is some minnow. They have a team full of guys playing at the top level, their coach is playing all of the players at their best position, and they’ve actually won a European Championship.
June 20, 20241 yr Dear Baby Jesus Christ, lying there in the manger, please let Portugal and England not get out of round 1.
June 20, 20241 yr Southgate's gonna catch some heat tonight. ETA BBC already on it: Edited June 20, 20241 yr by The Dog

I think the bigger thing is that England is fucking loaded. This talent should have way more than 2 goals in games. They should have already advanced out of the group. This team should be doing WAY more than they are showing.
June 20, 20241 yr We may bitch about Gregg's idiocy wasting a good crop of MNT players, but Southgate is out there proving it could be worse.

Trippier was probably the worst LB in the league last season. They aren’t loaded in midfield. They don’t have an actual defensive midfielder. Gallagher is a try hard but not nearly as good as the English press hype him up to be. I’d honestly start Adam Wharton in the third game. He has good positional sense and can link defense to attack.

Yeah the complaints we have about Berhalter are legit but he's not the total disaster that is Southgate. England's talent is overrated but they shouldn't lose to any team in their group unless they are unlucky. That wasn't the case today - they were outplayed.

June 20, 20241 yr Southgate is proving that it “can be done on both sides of the Atlantic”.Of all of the talks of Belgium’s golden generation wasting away this current English squad and more coming might be 3 times deeper than Belgium ever was.
June 20, 20241 yr Palace man Guehi is about the only player the English supporters are commending. The fear was that this stage might be too big for him but he’s been great.

Kane wants to drop deep so maybe play with actual wingers with pace instead of Foden. The midfield flat out doesn't work. Palmer not getting any time is... something. Southgate has no tactics, only vibes.
June 20, 20241 yr Courtesy of Troll Football: If Southgate had a Ferrari he’d drive it at 10mph. Southgate puts his phone on low power mode when the batteries are on 99%. Southgate's favorite activity is to watch the paint dry. If Southgate was a spice, he’d be flour. If Southgate was a Prime Minister, he would be Liz Truss.

June 20, 20241 yr Southgate has made it to the QF (loss to France), SF (loss to Croatia AET) and F (loss to Italy on PKs) in his three major tournaments. In the 25 major tournaments between 1966 and when he took over, they made it to two SFs (1990 WC and 1996 Euros). 0 SFs from the 98 WC through the 2016 Euros is the truly astounding achievement.

They have never had the comparative talent level that they have now. Barry Switzer went to the NFC Championship game his first year and then won a Super Bowl his second year with the Dallas Cowboys. England have underachieved vs talent level since Southgate has been manager (Not that I mind.)

June 21, 20241 yr I listened to the Spain v Italy game on the drive home. It sounded like Italy never had any shot and were constantly defending.

Italy had some shots from the edge of the box that looked like they didn’t get within 5 feet of the cross bar. Spain could have had 3 or 4 and Italy could have had one.

Saka 24, Bellingham 22, Mainoo 21, Foden 26, Rice 27, Palmer 24, TAA 27, etc, etc. Klopp isn’t getting the Germany job before 2026 and maybe till 2028-2030 the way things are trending up for them.
